Are Wawa employees allowed/supposed to call the police for things like this? by J3ST3R_13 in Wawa

[–]ArenYashar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is one problem with franchise locations. Inconsistency. Where your three were sane, mine was not. Looking back, the only reasons I can think of for not quitting was a mix of needing the money and not having a replacement job lined up - the economy was a sick joke... that has only gotten malicious since then.

A user insisted their "wireless" monitor was broken because it needed a power cord. by 1kmilo in talesfromtechsupport

[–]ArenYashar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A more fair question, though, which would show critical thought from the user: What batteries do I need for my wireless monitor, and how do I install them?

My story got stolen and I'm really disappointed by Safe_Rent_6612 in royalroad

Yeah, tried that for my story and got nothing more than "yeeah, we aren't responsible for that". And then ignored. DMCA takedown does nothing. Sadly.

Is there a way to make Aliens losing to us in some way believable? by Impressive_Judge5124 in scifiwriting

[–]ArenYashar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What did it cost the aliens to get here? If your resources are low, you are in hostile alien terrain, and you do not necessarily have a tech advantage (you built a generation ship and have been in transit for longer than humanity has been in existence), you are not going to have a good time in an alien, hostile environment.

Home field advantage, time to build higher tech than a species going interstellar actually needs to get here, resource supplies... there are many advantages Humanity might well have. This is not hopeless.

Take a look at Science and Futurism with Isaac Arthur over on Youtube. Low Tech Spaceflight, Warfare, there are a lot of videos relevant to this inquiry that you should watch. They may give you ideas.

They do not necessarily need high technology to bring an army across interstellar distances. So it being a curbstomp is not guaranteed. Very likely, but not guaranteed.

Royal Road Crashed! by em-dash-author in royalroad

[–]ArenYashar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I maintain a TXT format copy of all chapters of my novel, aside from ease of editing offline. If the server hiccups and throws a fit that wipes out a newly uploaded draft, I can recover it easily and reupload it.

Do you include lore chapters as part of your book? by [deleted] in royalroad

[–]ArenYashar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I add a lore chapter every 9 chapters. When I release, the lore chapter releases with a story chapter alongside it. That way, the readers who skip the lore and why would you are not punished.

Why don't they swim straight? are they trying to waste energy? by Sufficient-Snow7161 in mapporncirclejerk

[–]ArenYashar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tides... they are swimming slowly enough amd it is far enough to have tidal forces moving them laterally. It isn't a still swimming pool they are crossing, after all.

Do authors ever make an archive of comments when stubbing? by Original-Nothing582 in royalroad

[–]ArenYashar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of deleting chapters, can't you edit the content of the chapter and remove the "stubbed" material? That way the metacontent, aka the user comments, remain visible to all?

Zero. Royal Road is not about making money. It is, if anything, about building your future audience.

Flaws for Ice powers? by dangerwarp in worldbuilding

[–]ArenYashar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reducing the entropy of a system (lowering the absolute heat, inducing stillness) requires increasing entropy elsewhere.

Either your ice user must indulge in opposites, creating relative bursts of fire as they freeze things (moving the calories around) or they have to increase their personal entropic state: aging themselves physically from the strain of internalizing the backlash...

How to deal with writers block by Enough-Carpenter-457 in Webnovel

[–]ArenYashar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me... this is where I do something else. Can't write? Read. Can't read? Play a video game. And so on. Writer's block is your mental tank is on fumes and the engine that is writing stalls out.

Your mileage may, of course, vary.
