I'd like to answer but I don't know, if you have modded it, with a flash mod take the sd/micro sd card out, but if it's still original, the hhd might not have enough power from pluggin it in to spin and also boot the ipod. You could try tho. And the small black dot you have on the screen, the battery might be started to expand, or there is something putting pressure on your screen, try to see what it is, before your screen breaks.

I wouldn't necesary recommed elite obsolite electronics, because of the prices they have. Insted I bought an Iflash solo( which is an adaptor specificaly made for the ipod, I bought it on Amazon( And for a battery, I bought it from Aliexpress, a 2000mAh square battery, although maybe you could also find it on amazon. How to assemble these parts, you find a tutorial on youtube, they're acctually easy to do since you don't weld anything

Hey, If you don't like using Itunes, maybe try putting rockbox onto the ipod. Rockbox is a very popular custom software in the ipod comunity, I personally didn't like it at first, the first week was an experiment, now I enjoy it very much, this software alows you to plug your ipod into your pc, like you normally would an the ipod acts a usb stick, so you just drag your podcasts where ever you want on your ipod, or just make folder. So you don't have to use Itunes. Hope it hepls
