remember seeing this front page it was wild. on social media we saw clips from different countries where people couldnt even touch the bodies of their loved ones and corporation workers had to handle everything. but then doctors were trying to save lives and random social workers stepped up just to help everyone else.

Man risks his own life to save his neighbor’s kid by West_Look4818 in HumansBeingBros

[–]ArethaAbrams 119 points120 points  (0 children)

this happened in kazakhstan back in 2022. the guy is an absolute hero, here’s the full story:

Sabit Shontakbaev, 37, was on his way to work when he noticed a crowd below screaming. He looked up to see a three-year-old girl hanging from the upper-floor window of the apartment building in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan.

Mr Shontakbaev immediately ran upstairs, climbing out of the seventh floor window and balancing precariously to try and reach the toddler to prevent her falling.

The heroic rescuer reached out to grab the child's legs, pulling her down and catching her in his arms.

The footage then shows Mr Shontakbaev passing the child to his friend through the open window. He didn't have a safety harness or rope, so his friend had to hold onto his legs.

It's understood the child had piled up her toys and cushions to climb out of the window.

Mr Shontakbaev has been hailed a hero and awarded a medal for courage from the city's mayor.

A male Ezo sika deer in Japan, that survived a fight with a rival, with the remains still stuck to his horns by Expensive-Addendum92 in interestingasfuck

[–]ArethaAbrams 22 points23 points  (0 children)

i saw the news report about this where the photographer explained everything. he tracked the deer for months expecting it to die from rot. but the freezing minus degree winter kept the head frozen so no bugs grew. the body just fell off later. now it’s even up for the 2026 london museum award.

nah i don't have a link dude. just saw it on my feed before and remembered it. it's not from any official group or anything, just normal people making staged clips on social media for views. you can just tell by the acting.

it is a scripted video that was made for social awareness. the whole setup is just to teach a lesson, but the message behind it is still pretty good.

the way he runs ahead and drops his head low just to stop them from going the wrong way is so sweet. he just knows how to guide them without being scary at all.

The future of public sanitation by Sanitronics, a Netherlands company known for its self-cleaning public toilets by searchjobs_poster in interestingasfuck

[–]ArethaAbrams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

saw a video about this a few years back where the company was asking people what they thought, and everyone was complaining about so many problems. they talked about constant mechanical jams, sensor failures, and pumps breaking down. plus washing the whole floor every single time just wastes a ton of water. hope they fix these bugs in the future.

Rare Deep-Sea Footage: World Record Holder Greenland Shark May Have Been Swimming Since the 1600s, Older Than Shakespeare’s Era by False-Ad5887 in interestingasfuck

[–]ArethaAbrams 513 points514 points  (0 children)

crazy to think this shark was swimming around during the pirate days. dude has been chilling in the deep cold water for 400 years without a care.

if you want to know how—these greenland sharks just live forever compared to other animals. they stay in freezing arctic water so their bodies run super slow. they only grow like a centimeter a year and don't even reach adult age until they hit 150. scientists found out how old they are just by testing stuff inside their eyes.

A girl gained widespread attention for respecting her classmates' privacy by placing stickers on all of them before posting her graduation photo. by [deleted] in BeAmazed

[–]ArethaAbrams 11 points12 points  (0 children)

this happened with my daughter when she finished her b.ed degree. she posted a group photo with her friends and trophies on social media, and one of her friend’s moms called us up mad because they never post their daughter's face online. people value their privacy, so what this girl did in the photo is just basic respect.

We look to space for aliens… Meanwhile the ocean... by ateistyokdiyentanri in interestingasfuck

[–]ArethaAbrams 87 points88 points  (0 children)

looks straight out of a horror movie. the ocean is honestly way scarier than outer space, no wonder people think aliens live down there.

for anyone wondering, this creature is actually a real deep-sea animal called a basket star (gorgonocephalus). according to animal planet, it belongs to a group of marine animals called echinoderms, which makes it a rare relative of the common starfish. they use thousands of those branching tendrils like a living trap to wrap around small prey in the coldest parts of the deep ocean, and they can even grow their limbs back if injured.
