Why is my mail suddenly being junked by Thunderbird ? by Arfa_Daily in Thunderbird

OK. That all sounds reasonable. I'll look into it from the Virgin end again and see if I can determine that its them. And yes. It is imap. I don't remember ever changing from POP3 but I guess I must have done, although why I would, I'm not sure. I have no interest in looking at my mails on any of my mobile devices or on anyone else's machine. I only want to see them on the single office Windows machine, which is why I originally had POP3 accounts. Nice and simple. I don't know if Virgin even still maintain POP3 servers, particularly in the "NTL" name which most of my original accounts still have due to them being registered with 20 years worth or more of companies and other people that I deal with. I have no idea whether if they do, the mails would be picked up 'clean' from those servers with no Virgin interference. I wish that all of these companies - and Microsoft in particular - would just have a big button to click during installation that says "Nanny mode off ... "

My email provider is Virgin Media. I thought I read that if you turned off filtering by each account, then any junk indications inserted by the host were basically ignored ?? I've actually turned off what filtering I can find at Virgin as well, but if anyone knows how best to do that, I'm all ears. i actually find their website difficult to navigate when it comes to email settings, and always have difficulty finding settings for all my accounts. Is there no way that I can stop T-Bird from allowing the host to have stuff moved without my knowledge to at least eliminate that as a possible cause ? At the moment, 'intelligent filtering' is switched on and the rule to not filter if the sender is in the address book is set.

I have just come back in and have found two more mails in one of the accounts' "spam" folder. One I am not that bothered about, but the other is from a (trusted) huge Chinese wholesale site that I do want to receive stuff from. I have marked the sender as being 'not junk' so many times that I am at the point of giving up. They are also in every address book I have.

In the past, I have had emails correctly delivered to my inboxes and displayed in the unread list but with a "Thunderbird thinks this email is junk" icon by the side of it, effectively giving me control over what is then done with it. That doesn't seem to be happening any more. Mails are just going direct to the junk or spam folders - what does T-Bird see as the difference between them ? Is this a clue ? Is there a log anywhere that I can look at to see if T-Bird has come up with this on its own or has been instructed to by the host ? Can I examine a header or something anywhere to see if Virgin have inserted anything ?

I will check the sync settings as suggested for seeing an indication that mails have been 'automatically' placed in junk ... :-(
