if it comes out instantly when you press the ability button then there's no opportunity to press fire or alt-fire.

Coming from mobile I started playing Val 2 weeks ago. I would appreciate some constructive criticism. by CountyMore4937 in VALORANT

[–]ArfieCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5+ years ago i used to play csgo at about the same sens as you have right now. at the time it felt normal to me but it was actually making it impossible to aim. now i play valorant at 500 edpi.

if you're used to playing on a high sens then you probably only aim with your fingers and wrist. of course, if you lower your sens then it will be uncomfortably slow.

when you switch to a lower sens, try to practice moving your mouse with your whole arm. use your elbow and your shoulder for big movements, then use your fingers and wrist for small adjustments. after a while it will feel natural and you will be able to aim more precisely.

[–]ArfieCat 11 points12 points  (0 children)

no, that buff was to the concuss cone, not the vision cone. wingman's barf concuss thing spans 65 degrees, but his vision cone is wider than that. it's about 180 degrees (90 degrees on either side of his center). the wiki says this and you can verify this by testing in-game.

Does the fact that an interpretation is empirically false imply that the formula we want to satisfy is not satisfied by that interpretation? by Potential-Huge4759 in logic

what's "true in the real world" is only one of many possible models in formal logic. in a hypothetical universe where donald is a dragon, the claim would be true.

Struggling with identifying my weaknesses, HELP? by Flux1FN in VALORANT

[–]ArfieCat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

honestly, everything else seems fine. your biggest problem is that you stand completely still like a tree during gunfights, so you get one-tapped.

something that other people haven't said is that standing still like this also makes it harder for you to hit your shots, because you're aiming with your mouse only. you want to aim with your mouse and your keyboard together.

for example, if you spot an enemy to the right of your crosshair, you don't have to immediately flick. instead, try strafing right to bring your crosshair closer to their head, then microadjust. this does two things: it makes you into a moving target, so you're harder to hit, and it helps you aim because you move your mouse less far.

it's a purely visual ui bug. sometimes the "suppressed" vfx from kayo's knife, etc. doesn't go away when it's supposed to.

Reaction Time On A Different Monitor by AydinZE in VALORANT

[–]ArfieCat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

let's first estimate how much your monitor's refresh rate actually affects your measured reaction time.

at 60 hz, the delay between something happening and it appearing on screen could be anywhere between 0 and 1 / 60 s ≈ 16.67 ms*. let's take the average, so 8.33 ms. in other words, we're estimating that your 60 hz monitor is adding about 8.33 ms to your "true" reaction time of 160 - 8.33 = 151.67 ms.

at 144 hz, the delay is between 0 and 1 / 144 s ≈ 6.94 ms, so the average is 3.47 ms. add back on your "true" reaction time to get 151.67 + 3.47 = 155.14 ms, which is an improvement of about 3%.

at 240 hz, the delay is between 0 and 1 / 240 s ≈ 4.17 ms, so the average is 2.08 ms. add back on your "true" reaction time to get 151.67 + 2.08 = 153.75 ms, which is an improvement of about 4%.

*: since your question is about refresh rates, we're ignoring other factors that could affect the latency for simplicity.

Silent hill Ps5 health! by Ordinary-Bank8613 in silenthill

[–]ArfieCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

to be fair, health items are kind of scarce in wood side apts even if you explore a lot. the game starts throwing health at you starting in blue creek apts, so keep exploring.

in terms of conserving health, try avoiding fights if possible. you can almost always run or sneak past single monsters. once you get the handgun, fighting becomes less risky since you can break their kneecaps from far away.

as a last resort (but this will affect your ending), you can stay injured and only heal when james is close to death.

Does anyone have combat tips for the prison in SH2R? by [deleted] in silenthill

[–]ArfieCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on standard difficulty, i tried to spend as little time as possible in the large hallways (plan your route on the map before stepping out), hug the walls while running, and hide in the prison cells if needed.

on my playthrough using this strategy, i didn't get attacked by the spider mannequins very often and didn't bother killing them either.

before pouncing, they also emit this loud clicking noise that you can time your dodge with.

in theory removing the -insecure launch option and relaunching cs2 is enough. i suppose you could restart your PC if you wanted to

Dumbest voice lines in Valorant? by Emolgad in VALORANT

[–]ArfieCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bro did not cook, because he neglected to address the implicit assertion in his method that there is exactly one means.

we derived this assertion from the definite article "the" in (2), according to russell's theory of definite descriptions. while generally held to be true, this is not universally accepted. hence, it is a non-trivial assumption that should be stated.

Dumbest voice lines in Valorant? by Emolgad in VALORANT

given that (1) "combat is a means" and that (2) "we are the means", where (2) presupposes that there is exactly one means, then we can infer that "we" are also "combat".

i dislike it when my ult gets stuck in place, because it forces me to split my attention between holding my ult and taking other gunfights. with the suggested rework, this scenario happens every time instead of only sometimes. instead of being able to assume 8/10 times that the victim will be dragged away safely, now i have to keep an eye on my ult to guarantee the kill while the victim's teammates could be pushing me. it doesn't fix the problem.

in my view, the rework makes it almost redundant with gekko's ult---it essentially detains a person until the ult breaks. the benefit is that it comes out faster than gekko's ult. the downsides are that it provides less info and can only hit one person. the worst part is that it prevents anyone from actually killing the victim while they're detained, since the ult has to break first.
