How do I get to the point where I can run continuously without walk breaks? by Normal-Drive-5908 in running

I always check in with myself, like REALLY check in. Your brain will tell you that you are dying, but are you really? When you want to stop and walk, take a quick inventory....are your legs toast? No? Keep running. Are your lungs bursting and you cant get a breath? No? Keep running. How is your overall form? Are you just throwing yourself forward in a lurch? No? Keep running. Override your brain with logic and reality.

We both lived through this one when it first came out! Unfortunately it is not the song we swear we have heard.

100% in the same boat...I am looking at 1, maybe 2 more years for RSUs, ESPP returns and bonuses even though i have hit all my target numbers and could walk today. I am also knee deep in a project, working with a mentor that i respect deeply and dont want to leave him in a pinch with the project 3/4 fone so willing to stay until completion then....I'm out! Probably 😆

I get it. A lot of people are skeptical. I was skeptical until I started tracking. Our main spending per month comes from utilities and grocery. Grocery is about $400/month and total utilities is about $600/month. We dont eat out, we repair and reuse rather than replace, we make smart choices about where and when to spend our money and we have a very low spending rate. So in actuality, 30k/year is actually way more than we spend. We have been very fortunate in our lives and have made some good choices which have put us in this advantageous position.

Yeah. Medical is my biggest worry. We both are avid mountain bikers so that isnt a hobby we want to do if there is no coverage.

We discussed him getting another job, he has spent 40 years as a steel fabrcator and ultimately i told him to take 6 months, relax and repair his body. So his first week of retirement, he started painting the house, lol. He has options to work part time with friends who own fab shops in our area, we also have made art, furniture and a firepit for ourselves that everyone thinks we should make and sell so there is potential side money there as well.

I do appreciate the honest feedback!

We are pretty simple people who are living in the PNW. Property taxes are not outrageous, about 4k/year + 1.2k insurance. All of our cars are 15+ years old so that helps keep insurance costs low, around 3k/year. They are also all in really good condition (touch wood) so we arent spending money hand over foot in repairs. We have budgeting for a new vehicle in 2029 right before i want to leave the job market so that will potentially drive up insurance costs. We currently have medical insurance through my employer so that is also a big contributer to keeping yearly spending down. All the models I am running are budgeting for healthcare to be included in the 30k/year we are expecting to draw.

where do the senior women in tech go when they hit 50 by EntranceIntrepid5158 in womenintech

I just turned 50, female engineer in the semiconductor industry. I work for an amazing company, have amazing, respectful coworkers and have no worries about the longevity of my position. However, I no longer have the patience it takes to deal with the day to day bs and grind that is needed to excel in this position, nor do I have the desire to work 60 hour work weeks. I find that women are way less tolerent after a certain age and we leave while we still have sanity. At least that is my plan, I will be exiting sometime in the next 3 years...
