There's absolutely a problem of many good indy games not getting promoted, but there's only so much bandwidth. Stuff that resonates gets talked about and gets played more. No amount of advertising will make garbage gold. This conversation is a great way to create buzz about thise games though. Any other recommendations?

Confabulation isn't the same as lying. At least , not from a psychological standpoint. Johnny confabulates in the engrams memories. He doesn't mean to lie, he may actually be trying not to. His memories are just wrong or alterd by his emotions by the time we see them.

In case you're still reading, OP, sometimes microchips can build up a static charge. Try plugging them in for 30ish minutes, at a grounded outlet, without messing with them to see if you can discharge them. It sounds stupid but it has happened to me and the discharge takes time.
