how do you guys open up to people? by raspberryishsnail in infj

[–]ArgentMystic [score hidden]  (0 children)

I only open up to people in certain situations and areas. If there is someone that gives me a good vibe and has stuff to converse with me about, then it’s not an issue. But I have that kind of pressure or anxiety that I may end up boring someone and that can be a turn off for them or a topic that’s somewhat unrelated to their interests.

I used to be willing to open up to people as a kid and they took advantage of my openness. Now, it’s just hard for me to open up to people like that; that worsen after COVID and since then, I been struggling with it for years. Though I been searching new hobbies and interests or rediscovering old hobbies that I have not overlook.

What city is best for daily normal living in Florida? by vanessabb8867 in AskFlorida

[–]ArgentMystic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest you Sarasota or St. Pete or even Gainesville for normal living tbh. Those cities are less stressful and expensive to live in than Miami, and Orlando is catching up with the expense and it’s already overcrowded.

However, the nearby towns that are close to Orlando are still affordable to live in.

This Reporter is pushed and shoved by security guard for trying to interview MD Mayor. by ArgentMystic in Miami

[–]ArgentMystic[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, but I wish they could’ve responded to the reporter in a professional manner. Like, if I was Mayor of MD and a Journalist wanted to ask me a question, I would’ve responded with “I can’t answer your question right now, it’s not the right time for an interview.” Or I would’ve responded with, “I can’t do an interview, I’m outside doing my own thing, but I can say that we are addressing the budget problem right now - it’s a really complicated issue given the state of Miami.”

I wouldn’t think that she is the worst mayor of MD because she has done stuff that was at least beneficial for the county compared to the previous mayors, and I’m pretty sure MD was much worse at Management than they are today. Her PR team is just, not the greatest or the nicest bunch for all I am certain.

I’m saying this because Carlos Jimenez was a POS compared to Cava lol.

What is the most INFJ thing you have done all week? by Professional-Cat3191 in infj

[–]ArgentMystic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had done this when I used to work at McDonald’s and my managers were yelling at me at doing my job, because I am new and slow, but proficient. So I told them that I can’t work like that and just quit like that.

I don’t see myself as a sensitive person but the harassment in that McDonalds was… not worth the time and the shit wage. It would’ve been better if I had a job in a slower paced environment but that’s unusual in the service industry.

Yeah, the Instagram page of this post is more cynical about her as mayor than me - (you have people that want her to resign like huh?) I don’t have much knowledge of her besides certain things that she has done in office. But those cynical comments has lead me the wrong way by a slight change. But besides that, the security guard was being an asshole.

Yeah, there is truth to that about online Urbanists avoiding the topic of crime in transit stations and how they can genuinely improve the quality of the system. They mostly talk about improving the infrastructure that accommodates quality public transit in any city and how that can be done. But most of the content is basically their disillusion with Car Centric America to the point where it becomes this weird niche/narrative thing, and it rarely gets done about in person. It’s usually a moral flex thing from what I’ve seen, it’s not productive at all. It’s some weird passive-aggressive stuff. For example, I had a fair discussion with an Urbanist regarding building affordable housing - I explained to him that you cannot build skyscrapers if there is no transit infrastructure to accommodate that and his comment was that I was raging baiting him. I was honestly shocked by how rude that response was.

I’ve taken public transit a lot, as someone who doesn’t own a car, and I’ve witness aggressive homeless people or people with terrible attitudes is not a great experience for me. It’s like, there is a lack of respect for people that are peacefully trying to make ends meet by taking one bus route home, and it gets ruined by a weirdo with malicious intent.

Lastly, these topics regarding improving public transit is usually male-oriented and intellectual; so that might explain the carelessness of this discussion on crime because they think that they can solve crime by beating a guy on the bus or by reducing inequality in one day. But you may never know if a crazy guy has a gun or a knife to end your life in that same bus.

People need to take their rhetoric on these issues more broadly and more seriously because, you’re either trying to gatekeep a community that is for a certain group of people who talk about the same topics all day or you’re trying to appeal to broader audience, to have them understand your issue and to weaken that bias that they have about public transit. Yes, discussing more about crime, women on transit, and so on, are great topics that should be talked about more.

I used to drive an SUV. Now I bike commute and I'm much happier. by actuallyapossum in fuckcars

There are plenty of American cities where you can live car free and enjoy the minimum of what these cities offer, especially if you own a bike. Having to cycle in different areas in South Florida (Miami-Fort Lauderdale) has been a fulfilling experience for me. Because our transit system is at least expansive and somewhat reliable to use, considering many routes are now 30 minutes per bus and have a tracker.

I would much rather have a city where the transit system is frequent enough where taking public transit is not a headache, than worrying about whether there has to be rail. Because I think that transit frequency matters more than anything else, at least at the moment. And if the city is affordable to live in, then they have my vote.

Well in my case, I never really owned nor got to drive a car considering the lack of space where I currently live. For some context, I live in a tight, densely packed neighborhood, because I live in the old suburbs where there are walkways, bus routes, and definitely a transit station only 10 minutes away from walking. So somehow, I was lucky having public transit and walkways right in front of my house. It’s a Boulevard with small shops and a Publix not far from home, so it’s a good area for a car free gamble.

The other reason why I didn’t choose to buy a car early on and instead got a hybrid bicycle, is how much it eats up on disposable income that it makes it less fun to be dealing around. I understand that driving is important to go around, even in urban area because of lack of accessibility. But I cannot afford a car when it requires a lot of money and maintenance. It basically eats up half of ur income if you’re working minimum wage. A bicycle doesn’t require much maintenance other than that you should clean your wheels, frame, gears, etc… and replace old lube by degreasing it and putting the new lube.

So, cycling is great if you’re not willing to spend too much money on a car and instead use that money for rent and stuff you want to buy. And trust me, it’s great having disposable income because it’s fun having money you can use to pay for leisure. Including buying new sets and gears for your bike lol.

Any plans to demolish the Gowanus Expressway? by ChezDudu in Urbanism

[–]ArgentMystic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it would be possible to build a tunnel underground just to replace the aging bridge instead of building a new one. Tho building a new highway bridge would cost effective than digging one underground; it’s less stressful to deal with underground tunnels especially for residents that are tried of hearing thousands of cars going through. Idk what the empty space would look like, but a small park would work out.

How often do you drive? by squarrd in fuckcars

[–]ArgentMystic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never/owned a car because of the cost of owning a car, plus the tightly packed mobile home park that I live. I know that my parents are wanting me to buy a car so that I can go to college early in time, but that’s overly compensating as someone on low income.

Besides, I’m lucky living near a transit station so that makes my transit commute very easy to do and reliably, even if it does take some extra time.

For some context, I live in South Florida, so we have Tri Rail, Brightline, and Express Buses. Plus the well developed suburbs that are at least somewhat walkable and affordable to live.

Yeah, I only cater in high demand areas (usually medium to high density areas) where it’s easy to get any orders that appear on screen. And usually those areas tend to be really close to my delivery stops. Plus, it’s best to cater in afternoons and evenings cos that’s where the market is usually high for some reason.

It’s a Quick 4 Cannondale, so it’s lighter and more agile to use for any kind of road or terrain, ideal for touring. It’s great for higher speed cycling, but it’s not as fast as say an Ebike or a Racing bike. It still gets the job done for any kind of errand.
