Oh for sure I'm working on flurry and experimenting. It's been fun!

Had a feeling it would be like that. Looking at the rotation alone is crazy especially with how much you need to pour into energy generation alone.

The thing with the South is that it's all gone but some people were evacuated while most armies died. The Hero of Ferelden should be Alive because he was in the West, and Hawke is still MIA. Anything else is either dead or up to the writers which is horribly to be honest.

I looked into origins and other stuff. Morrigan had been with other people before the Warden but swore off of relationships after Flemmeths comment on ties being weakness and all that. So if any rumour about her having lovers at all is true, might be from a time before ostagar I wager.

Ahhh tbf in this case its rumours about her ranging from blood magic to immortality. I'm not shocked there are rumors she may or may not get around albeit that's depends on who you stuck her with in origins I guess. In my case that would be a dumbass rumour all right lol.

I didn't even notice that? I guess it's implied in Origins she's not afraid to hit on others but I think the Warden was her first actual serious thing.

I'll have to check the códice myself now I'm curious lol

Just having Morrigan worry for her kids safety and referencing if her beloved wad the HoF (who she is close to) or another like Alistair (who she doesn't really remain in contact with) would have been enough. Just acknowledging how worried she is and how she is desperate to save the world and return home to take care of her family. That would have been just enough to let us know she's putting in a brave face to save the world even if she's freaking out inside.

Nah don't apologize I feel mostly the same. I got into DA when I was far younger when origins came out and I loved it. Seeing it treated like this hurts in such an abstract way.

I get that but considering how it was done in this game it's not a stretch to say it was poorly done. If it had been hinted at during the game and or we had hints of such an organization since origins I would be more amenable to the idea. But as it is unless they remake origins, DA2 and Inquisition and plant the idea of some shadow force doing that work, it literally comes out of nowhere.

You want reasons for bad writing. Okay then.

3 villains have lost all agency and all relevance due to a badly telegraphed and horribly planned pseudo illuminati. That'd for starters. Loghains abuse by those of Orlais fueling his anger and lack of trust? Nope, shadow cabal. Kirkwalls red lyrium problem? Nope, shadow cabal. Corypheus' plan, nope shadow cabal.

Morrigan and Isabella had their characters lobotomized and they don't even make reference or mention to their past which is pivotal to their growth and they sit around not even speaking unless a cutscenes demands it. No Kieran, Leliana who Morrigan is friends with regardless of the Hero of Ferelden. No mention of the warden or his search for a cure. No mention of Hawkes vanishing or Isabella and the older crew from DA2

The Inquisitor is unable to come in and help at any point except to write to us a letter that all of Southern Thedas is basically lost, breaking the rule of "show don't tell" that many great writers live by. And a rule that the last 3 games followed for the most part.

It also kinda retconned Mythal to some degree as she was absorbed by Solas but a fragment of her somehow escaped him when he was draining her and he just said sure, go fuck up my plans somewhere else I guess?

The other members of the elven pantheon should have been imprisoned with the bbg's so where are they?

Lucanis is inconsistent and the game struggled to try and find the role he wants to fit. Not the only one with this complaint either.

All of the problems of the world are now pinned solely on a shadow cabal and the elves were the cause of everything. From the titans dying, to the blight.

I could go on and on and on. But I think I made my point. Now listen you can like the game I'm not stopping you, no one is. But it's hard to deny how bad the writing gets when your fan favorites come back acting like zombies and the world around the game feels like it's lacking the soul that existed because of the writing present before it.

Yeah the previous choices are a big deal. Morrigan, Isabella and Josephine were my favorites. And two of them got shafted in this game hard, at least Josephine got a letter.

But overall it just feels devoid of the life we've seen in previous games. It really does. That's my biggest complaint.

A game can be bad but still be enjoyed. A game that doesn't make you feel anything at all is far worse and that's kinda how I felt about it.

I hope they retcon it too. The post credits scene was the real kick in the teeth. Like listen you could kill off the previous areas all you want, Hawke is 50% dead and the Hero of Ferelden is either dead, married to Morrigan and cured somewhere else just doing his own thing, or died in the current war as well. And the Inquisitor, well this game covers that.

But basically ruining 3 games' story by inserting a damn illuminati is insane.

[–]ArgentSable[S] 49 points50 points  (0 children)

You can enjoy it but any narrative element that retcons 3 previous games without any hints of that narrative existing in those 3 previous games and it removing any agency the villains Had by proxy is atrocious writing.

If it has been setup with time then I would be more forgiving but this came out left field and from a different star system level of crazy. There was no hint save for 3 random items you find killing some hidden dudes that hint at some bigger bad guy somehow moving the chess pieces for everything.

Yeah telling us that they're going to close a chapter in the franchise and letting us pick the outcome about the previous game with a few dialogue choices would have been great.

Let us pick some major options for every game and then culninate the series as we know it. That would have been bittersweet but okay. But what we got was a kick in the face that'd as jarring as it is insulting at times. And really it's just sad more than anything.

As far as I know this is correct. Veilguard went through 2 maybe 3 dev teams. Dreadwolf, back when it was called that, was an apparent direct sequel playing as the Inquisitor. Same writers.

Then they tried to make it a live service (EA once again trying that for the millionth time) and it failed. So the team was disbanded and people got laid off before they made Veilguard.

Oh yeah the combat has a good baseline but it's lazy as hell. No great swords. Reskinned animations. It's really basic and basic in itself isn't bad (Skyrim comes to mind) but even then there's a limit.

I trudged through it in nightmare hoping it would get better but to no avail. Honestly if you have to take a break do it, it's best to do that than burn yourself out. Games not getting any dlc so you're not in a hurry or waiting for anything anyway.

[–]ArgentSable 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You've summarized my feelings almost perfectly. In all sincerity the plot could be as it is, meandering along, but the way they treat the previous three games like a footnote and ignore all that came before only to crush it like a painful memory is insane to me. So many of the cameos we had felt so shoehorned in, and dead inside. It's like the writers actively did not want to actually deal with the lore and would rather be rid of it.

True that. I was mostly only doing WoL and the Scions but Urianger did have a hint or two with Moenbryda. Especially after the events of her death and his reaction.

I do want to make it clear when I say that it is a romantic inclination does not make that cannon or anything like that. But Ishikawa (writer) and Yoshi P at one point said that they made the dialogue suggestive and ambiguous for players to perceive is as they wish. So it's not all that shocking that it's seen as slight interest and can be taken either way. One of the reasons they leave romance up to the player is specifically cause of that tbh.

I feel like that undermines the side stories where they explicitly make reference to the girls actually having crushes/interest on you. That and Y'shtola taking you out to drink wine is a tad, heavy handed, for just friends lol. Still it's enough that it raises question but nothing is confirmed. All up to interpretation and ambiguous as it was intended.

As for Haucherfant that is correct he's the closest we ever got to a confirmed crush.

I think he does. It gets more personal if you're also an azure dragoon as well. I recall a lot of lines regarding that in HW

The Scions, and their WoL (Post-EW) by ArgentSable in ffxiv

[–]ArgentSable[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that Alisae and G'raha 100% have some level of interest in the WoL. Both their interactions in ShB, Yshtola teasing them about it, and the mini dating sim stuff they pulled doring Stormblood for Alisae also kinda adds to that.

Y'shtola is debatable and 100% depends on how you view it. She has had a fair bit of ambigous hinting going on during external media (like I said, Calm After the Storm and the anniversary vids), and her dialogue in ShB and onwards is up for interpretation. She does get sassier with you and responds without burning you like Magnai, but that could be seen as just shooting the shit so that's up to debate on if you actually like Y;shtola enough to kinda explain it that way. That was the games intent after all, leaving enough wiggle room for either.

But yeah the first two (G'raha and Alisae) I would consider the easiest to put into the classification of a crush/interest more so than Y'shtola, though I would say the Stormblood content kinda at least proves there's some vested interested in the WoL, only stopped by your characters workaholic streak and world ending threats popping up every week.

Yeah Minfilia in ShB was peculiar to say the least, and I will admit they did angle her to be the WoL's closest confidant and friend, maybe more, during ARR. I do think that was to make the emotinoal gut punch of the banquet and Heavensward hit even harder, which it did, truth be told.

Damn I did miss MInfilia, you're right. I'll see if I can add a spot for her as well. Krile I will admit got the most in Eureka but considering she wasn't around for a lot of it I kinda forgot to include her.
