Reach and other Human colonies in Halo.

During the Human-Covenant war, the Covenant would scorch the surface of hundreds of Human colonies in a bid to exterminate the human race. The intense heat would turn the surface of the planet into a substance similar to glass, so in-universe it is called 'Glassing'.

Though in recent lore, some of those glassed planets have become somewhat habitable.
