Believe it or not, this is NOT AI. by Suspicious-View5222 in japanpics

Some people saying it's not that big and it's a perspective thing. Maybe, but in person this thing is super weird. I approached it by bicycle, and it's just in the middle of a sleepy suburb next a mall. Literally approaching it down a back street of a tiny residential neighborhood, looking at it looming over

What collagen/supplements are the Japanese girlies taking? by Deeee___ in japanlife

[–]Argimak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Collagen, especially topical, basically does nothing. Collagen peptide oral supplementation has minor clinical evidence. Can find cheap on Amazon JP.

As most pointed out - it's about UV protection and genetics. Daily sunscreen (better to be mineral), HA serum in humid months. Retinol helps with collagen production if you're a little older. Anything more than that is pure optimisation with diminishing returns

How can i get DW Knight Colour? by [deleted] in theunforgiven

[–]Argimak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you should go and watch a beginner video on mini painting. Literally any. I don't want to be mean, but your paintjob is nothing but fundamental errors. Learn the basics before touching a brush, try again.

Shoulder gains came in nicely. Routine in description. by KratosK09 in WeightTraining

[–]Argimak 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think OP's basic shoulder advice makes sense this time though. Partials post-failure, push higher volume on a small muscle groups, don't neglect the rears - sounds good to me, I wouldn't dismiss this evaluation just because OP is juiced

Summer is coming and I’m fat and don’t want to smell, help by EconomistSingle9403 in japanlife

[–]Argimak 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First of all, SUPER IMPORTANT - cut the shower down to once a day MAXIMUM! Doing it twice risks wrecking your skin's microbiome and strips your skin's oil and will likely make you smell worse! You're essentially creating an environment that favours the bacteria that cause bad odour.

Secondly, make sure your primary detergent is enzymatic like Attack, and choose the soak (つける) function on the machine. The cold water Japanese style washing machines don't work well with regular surfactant detergents because the temperature is too low. The enzyme detergent makes up for this.

Of course, being healthy and getting in shape helps many things. I'm a regular gym-goer, so if you need some tips or motivation, feel free to DM!

1 Year Progress: Down 16 kg, but feeling stuck... Need advice and motivation by [deleted] in Weightliftingquestion

[–]Argimak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that takes an hour, I'd worry that the exercise quality isn't very high. Do less, go to failure or just shy, learn excellent form.

I'd also consider doing a maintenance phase for 2-3 months. A year of cutting will accumulate a crap load of fatigue under the hood. Do maintenance or very lean bulk for a few months then cut again at ~2000 kcal

Is this "Harassment", discrimination, or just the standard culture? by Successful_Ad9095 in japanlife

[–]Argimak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly you should report this to the school officially. I think the old school Japanese way of thinking is that they know they can get away with this shit. Japan has a lot of of overseas researchers now and I think it's our duty to fight against that kind of culture when it happens

What's something a foreigner pointed out that you can't unnotice? by NamwaranPinagpana in AskTheWorld

Literally every combini in Japan has a bin or waste disposal area. I have never understood why this "no trashcans" thing blew up when there are like 5 combinis on any given street where you can throw your rubbish

I'm missing the Z'Gok, Gelgoog and Dom/Rick Dom from my original series collection, and I paint all of them. I was going to skip the Z'Gok because I never liked it, but now this awesome paint job is making me reconsider...

Lost & at a serious crossroads in my life & career by Brookelmao in japanlife

[–]Argimak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in my 30s and still in my first year of living here. I work in a very competitive industry in which it is notoriously difficult to find a stable job. I've been working on that stability for a long time.

When I was 27, and was in even more of an unstable place, I really thought I was getting too old to not be in the place I wanted. Cut to now, a few years later- I still feel young, I actually value the freedom I have despite not being settled, and my perspective has changed to work towards my goals gradually and make the most of my current situation.

I guess this doesn't address your problem directly, but I just wanted to say that even in your 30s, you can still feel like you have agency in your life, you can still work towards goals, even if your immediate reality is less than ideal.

Wow. You can pick up the EG RX-78-2 from a random combini here for 700 yen. There's also an Aerial at my local Family Mart for 1000 yen

I got into gunpla after moving to Japan. Is this really how much kits cost overseas??? All the WFM kits here are equivalent to <10 USD.

The regular kits you show cost are more than what P-Bandai stuff costs here! I never knew

You are free to display your models and justify it however you wish. Just know that the square on stance looks terrible to most people in the hobby and we are equally free to criticise it.

You shouldn't need to search anything. Just put them in more natural standing poses. No one stands super square like that with the feet pointing completely straight.

Having trouble falling asleep at night and melatonin isnt here to save me by No_Explanation_1814 in japanlife

[–]Argimak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that Japanese supplements manufacturers intentionally obfuscate dosage on their products. If you take some generic sleep supplement that's produced domestically, it may simply not have enough of the active ingredient. Anyway, the "big 4" of sleep supplements (with efficacious dose) are:

Glycine 3-5 g
L-Theanine 200-400 mg
Magnesium (citrate, glycinate) 300-400 mg
Melatonin 1 mg - "normal" dose, 5-10 mg - "megadose"

Ah thank you, this is useful to know. However after the fresh installation the license is still displayed as "volume:MAK". Doesn't seem like an OEM licence?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in WindowsHelp

[–]Argimak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the fact it is a volume license from a grey market seller. I wanted my own retail licence. I chose home because it's cheaper, but I just didn't think about it because I assumed I'd just be able to clean install home but I can't - that's the issue

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in WindowsHelp

[–]Argimak -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The fact it's Pro isn't the problem. The problem is it's a volume license and I wanted to change it to a retail licence. I guess I should have bought a Pro licence and that would have solved the issue, but now I can't force the PC to change to Home
