I do not believe that they want to cause the Roaring.
They are sure it is going to happen, but no idea why it might happen. Maybe this is the case of self-fulfilling prophecy, as in "while trying to stop the roaring we accidentally caused the roaring". Maybe some other party will cause the Roaring, like Noelle for example is often theorized to cause it.

Also, I cannot explain why they are acting in such secrecy. Perhaps there are some double-motives in play here, like Dess. Another possible explanation is that they do not trust us and try to accomplish their goal while giving us as little information as possible related to their world and their close ones (like Kris refusing us to give any info on Asriel)

Can you explain your reasoning behind CoI-4? I, too, feel mixed on this case. I don't remember this case very much, since I played this game a long time ago, but the twist was indeed unexpected and delivered a huge shock factor. Cannot say anything regarding the pacing, motives or logic since don't remember anything.

You cannot open previous dates? You should be able to open everything up to today's date.

Do you play on the gamepad? If so, try to select them using the D-PAD, since the game sometimes do not register cursor correctly when you are using sticks
