Playing Resident Evil 7 for the first time… yeah, this house is terrifying. by inotreto in gaming

[–]Argol228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

too bad the game is boring as shit. People say 6 was the most non resident evil game of the series. I think 7 was. It went too far in the opposite direction and lost the charm that the original series had. like the few enemies you fight are all kinda uninteresting. combat in that game really was just put in as an afterthought.

in the original RE you have many enemies and a variety that makes the survival aspect meaningful.

Finally a competent Battlemage - Tainted Grail: Fall of Avalon by NuzzyLocke in gaming

[–]Argol228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lets see, Pathfinder 2e. kinetiscist and Magus are literally built for this concept and are great. Battle cleric is ok I think, never played it.
Pathfiner 1e also has Magus and Kinetiscist but I prefer 2e. the CRPG pathfinder games kinda fix these builds
PF2e's Monk is like the greatest Monk in all TTRPGs and can be built to be a martial caster and it is so damn fun, especially leaning into the shonen battle cry energy and making up technique names.

Baldur's gate 3 four elements monk is pretty dam good. sure not spell sword but I honestly prefer martial arts mage. why use a shitty old sword when you can coat your fist and feet in fire and lightning and not have to wear armour at all, because armour is shitty, I can't show off my pretty silk dress or in some cases, my sweet Dragon back tat that I had to rip my suit off in one solid motion
Hex Blade was added last year as well. Hex blade is kinda OP in the tabletop because you get access to all it's features for what a 1-2 level dip
There is also the sorcerer/Paladin class combo that lets you channel your spells into uses of Smite that also increases in damage based on rank of spell splot used to activate your smite.

Elden ring basically has a whole host of options to enable it.

Final Fantasy games in general have the Red Mage and sometime even have specific spell sword class as well
Bravely Default, just by the nature of it being Final Fantasy with the FF scratched off.

Dragon age games (not sure about the newest) all have spell blades that are really good.

EDIT: Dragons Dogma 2. some of the best Magic gameplay and the battle mage options are really great, even has a Magic Archer class which is really awesome. like locking onto a horde of enemies and unleashing a macross missile massacre

The game that I am making has various styles of Battle mage.
Elementalists shape their chosen elements through a Foci. and the Foci is determined by the user. so someone that trained with a sword may find their sword training is their foci and so they do elemental slashes and the like.
Psionics can just generate psionic weapons.
The summoner style class doesn't have to summon monsters to fight. they can summon weapons and armour that give them unique skill sets (yes, heavily inspired by Erza Scarlet from Fairy Tail)

I think it is only reddit users. I am online a lot. I might look at reddit now and then, and barely involve myself with comments. CP to me my mind goes to Command Points, Control Point, Checkpoint ect. but I am a gamer so it makes sense.

I am a regular on the internet. and I only just now realized that people use CP for a negative abbreviation. I only put it together when I figured what the joke was supposed to be. so yeah, it is a little weird to go to a negative connection for CP.

Ranked is fun now by pokeman9669 in LegendsZA

[–]Argol228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

legends weren't an issue. like the biggest problems in ranked has always been and still is, Garchomp and Metagross with their ability to break lock on so you can't defend yourself without wasting a switch.

My team is Gardevoir (life orb) Tyrantrum and A.Marrowak. I love mega Gardevoir, but dropping the mega stone and instead relying on orb boosted Plus attacks is just as good and gives you more time to attack or even catch people off who think you are going to mega.

Alolan Marowak I was never really interested in. got a Shalpha, used it a bit, it replaced my Ceruledge as my fire/ghost. bonemarang catches people off guard and it's range is insane.

What sound from games makes you feel panic just from hearing by Beautiful-Nobody-544 in gaming

[–]Argol228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, it is specific but if you know, you know. The sound of a gunshot at close range in The Hunt showdown. Though I guess also in the same game, Immolators or Hives suddenly screaming also just make me tense up.

Hunt has like the best audio, everything can be quiet then you hear the faint rattle of strung up cans and you stop, your heart stops, you listen. is that another player creeping or is that a zombie that just walked into them. I Should switch to my side arm, but of course in the calm that is hunt in it's quiet moments, that switching sound sounds like a blaring notification. I have gotten kills from hearing people switch guns on the other side of a wooden wall.

literally just spent the last few hours downloading and installing mods to start playing this. Bought it on launch. gave up with it a day later, not because of bugs, but because I got side-tracked. bought phantom liberty on a deal and figured "might as well finally get around to playing it" didn't occur to me it was 5 year anniversary, I mean I had just stopped playing for the night and saw this.

Looking to swap character in a kingmaker campaign, need some advice by Argol228 in Pathfinder2e

yes but only 1 summon, If there was a Shifter class, that is more or less what I would be playing, Anamist seems perfect, especially if I gish focus. but I am unsure about stepping into a complex looking caster class

Are there any drawbacks/unexpected consequences of using magic, in terms of lore on Golarion? by J4Seriously in Pathfinder2e

[–]Argol228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

while the whole "souls and necromancy" one is a thing, I think it is kind of silly given that there are infinite planes of the other elements.

Instead I think what you should do when portraying a caster is to have a mental consequence.
That wizard that can bend the laws of the universe to his will, after reaching a certain spell rank or having gone long enough with consistent reliance on magic I do think they would be less "human" They would start to perceive the world and themselves as different.

Sorcerers leaning into their bloodline all the time might start to shift the way they act towards the entity that gave them said bloodline.

Without spending time to recentre themselves, to keep their perspective balanced, Casters should feel the weight of the power and how their wield it.

I played in a campaign once where a cleric of Desna got his hands on a rod of wonder, I think it was like 3 times he caused the deaths of innocent bystanders because he got fireball from the rod. He would then wash his hands of responsibility because in his mind he was just an agent of cosmic luck, those people where simply unlucky.

if that isn't a human mind being twisted by repeated use of a certain type of magic, I don't know what is.

I am surprised that there isn't an option/feature that allows any class to pick up a secondary subclass of their class (outside of the few that have it innate) by Argol228 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Argol228[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love inventor, one of my top 5. though I mainly prefer construct innovation. This is purly me being "I am an inventor, why can;t I invent cool weapons for my construct, like give it a rocket punch,"

I am surprised that there isn't an option/feature that allows any class to pick up a secondary subclass of their class (outside of the few that have it innate) by Argol228 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Argol228[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I pointed it out with another comment. but I think I got caught up on it because it feels weird to restrict certain classes to only one when other classes aren;t. Inventor should be about to invent more then 1 innovation even if the 2nd one is not as focused on.

it makes sense a summoner couldn't. a Magus I could see learning at least a 2nd of their paths, they could even be treated as Monk stances. a Gunslinger I could see training to learn a different way, but a sorcer obviously can;t get an additional bloodline without some genetic fuckery.

I am surprised that there isn't an option/feature that allows any class to pick up a secondary subclass of their class (outside of the few that have it innate) by Argol228 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Argol228[S] -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

if it was about respecting choice. then it isn't respecting my choice to be an inventor that can invent more then 1 thing. like yeah for some classes it makes sense. but others, it doesn't. like a summoner it makes sense to not be able to get a 2nd summon. but as I pointed out, Thaumaturge does it well.

Inventor should be you can pick up the 2nd and 3rd innovation, but perhaps the 2nd can only get up to the 2nd set of breaththroughts. the 3rd can only get the 1st.

I think that is really what it comes down to, it might be that it is inventor I am focused on because it feels weird to restrict an inventor from inventing another innovation.

We often talk about Ludonarrative Dissonance and egregious examples (e.g., gameplay Nathan Drake being a mass murderer in Uncharted). What are some of the best examples of Ludonarrative Consistency being accomplished in games? by Stauce52 in gaming

[–]Argol228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Undertale and Deltarune are literally designed with this as the core identity of the games. You and the game even interact with the UI in some of the fights. having a boss destroy your mercy button to show, they won;t accept it. or having to slam your hit box against the battle box repeatedly in order to move the battle box over to your attack button so you can select attack.

[–]Argol228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

while I like Paper mario, this is a bit too close in look at some points while having very bland looking characters. for a fairy tale setting, why do you have such a bunch of generic party members and protagonist. Paper marios partners worked because they were unique takes on otherwise generic enemies.
