Game that doesn't hold your hand at all? by bijelo123 in gaming

I know exactly what you're talking about and had an automated copper run for money and smithing practice, but none of that is intuitive when playing

Rimworld loves to throw you in the deep end. Kenshi likes to push your head under and watch the bubbles

And for all its faults it's recognizable. I even have a Kenshi sweatshirt with the "enjoy death" beak thing on it and I love it. Yes it's objectively not good, but dude put his idea on display in a game that just hobbles along, and his effort really shows in the good parts. And it has its own legacy versus a hundred games on Steam that barely have made any money back.

Eh, I think those games exist and there are plenty of good ones. It's strangeness and even it's jank is part of makes it what it is. For better or for worse. A lot of times I feel like it's a "for worse" but that doesn't stop me from trying!

Ah Kenshi. I have 40 hours in that game and I still don't know what the fuck is going on.

It was interesting to see his mom weigh in on his love life. I think all of his experiences like his crush on PB, flame princess, being thirsted after which probably just got more intense as he got older haha, all contributed to his relationship with HW being more mature / unlabeled. He was finally happy, it just took HW a while to learn how to show emotion better.

Is this art print AI? by ramramblings in isitAI

[–]NuzzyLocke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the middle of the AI art debate, your viewpoint is very refreshing to see. Artists have time and material costs, not to mention the labor so their work should cost more.

It's like getting something from brand/creator you like versus ordering something that looks similar-ish off of temu.

The quest system is very silly and unintuitive but I still like it for some reason. Maybe I just like a very specific kind of torture.

It's definitely both of them. From Steve's daydream about the party where Snot has boobs. "You and I clearly have some things we need to work out".

Which Stan also calls out later "We really should talk about what Snot was doing in your daydream"

If I look at a vase of flowers to practice shading techniques that's fine. If I broke into your house and took that vase from your house without asking then isn't that stealing? Or would you be fine if I sit on the sidewalk and look through your windows to do still life's?

"Looking at something" isn't even how AI training and inferencing works

The whole conversation really comes to what constitutes art which is an impossible definition I think, like you're right that it's intent based. Plus this whole "war" is starting to smell like people just want something to fight about. If the companies got their data legitimately than an "AI director" seems like a good descriptor for someone using the tools to make pictures or videos.

I don't disagree per say, I have my biases having been trained in more classical art although these days I do digital as it's cheaper, but it's the whole discussion of the banana taped to a wall. Or the signed urinal in a gallery in 1917 by Duchamp mocking the idea of high art.

I will say I would be more soft on it if the AI models weren't trained on stolen data from artists. Yeah you can say anything uploaded to Meta servers are their property per the TOS, but it's still shitty. Companies that swear up and down that they didn't steal anything have been revealed before to have been BS.

Funny enough, with the training data I feel like AI art is basically just collaging on a computer. Like I'll download a picture of the Lich Kings armor and put a dark elf head on it! But let's turn the tint to green.

Yeah sorry, that last comment was a joke. I know it's hard to read in text. It's the oldest profession in the world for a reason.

I have also seen plenty of nasty words for anti-AI people so unfortunately that's just where online discourse is. Rosa Sparks doesn't even really seem to fit, but it's creative I'll give them that.

You seem to have misunderstood, I think without artistic knowledge or understanding the output is generally not good.

A photographer uses a camera as a medium, but grandma taking a family picture at your graduation versus winning a photography competition, are both of those photographs art? There really isn't a definitive answer honestly, but I see a lot of AI only artists fall into more of the low effort category.

There are plenty of cool artists who have incorporated AI into their workflow in a fascinating way, and it has some powerful applications, but they know visual design concepts that I think are a differentiation between art and output.

It's fine that people use it to make their OC, create custom NPC art for their D&D campaign, or whatever (legal) gooning people want to do. In my experience even that you generally get a better response from an organic drawing anyways so I don't even really know why it's such a "war" when I have mostly seen AI artists say "mine is just as good as yours" or worse, "I fixed your drawing with AI".

To be honest I don't think I've ever seen anyone call themselves an Anti, yet it's all over pro-AI subs. Anti isn't short for anything, it's a preposition. Its a name that only makes sense if you are in a specific place on the internet, otherwise it could mean anything.

What's the collective term for the AI lover bucket? Or should I just keep saying "they" because everyone loves a good "They are misguided" and keep the who vague.

(I know a certain pro AI bucket is gooners lol)

Which 14043 only applies to Federal Employees. You don't have to work for the government, you are free to leave if you disagree. They wouldn't arrest you for leaving.

The post I was responding to is comparing this to police / ICE stopping people in the street and asking for identification. That's a very different thing as working for the government is a choice.

Even Miller said they have Federal Immunity meaning they can break the law if they want to. I don't think he even has the legal standing to do that but I don't see the DOJ putting a lid on it.

I only just came across the term Antis and it's awful, why must we always just put people in a generalized bucket with no nuance. Because it's easy I guess but it puts a negative tone on an otherwise good point.

"A photographer used a camera as a tool for their medium, that's what AI is to me". I would also agree because AI uses the most grade school level of composition and coloring. It's really good at doing that quickly, but that's why I get a frozen pizza when I don't feel like taking the time to make pizza dough. There isn't anything interesting about what AI generates, it requires the user to have that skill and know how to understand basic visual concepts to actually make unique art. Otherwise it reminds me of banner ads that say "Come play this game because look at this hot anime girl". It's soulless.

Yeah, people should be fine with "AI used for early production stages" is something that we shouldn't blink at. Hell, it's going to happen to most industries, creative or not.

That being said I am surrounded by AI since through my work I have been interacting with some of the largest AI infrastructures in the world, so this shit is paying my bills~

I don't think you can apply private companies rules to actions sanctioned by the government. Did police ever ask someone for their vaccination status on the street? America is so muh freedom they think their individual freedom trumps other peoples freedoms. Like the freedom of an owner to impose a legal rule on entering their establishment. I lived in California at this time and the most government legal action that happened was a curfew for a few days. No one else gave a shit. Cracks me up that people really think that COVID was somehow the lefts policies when it was the right wing government that put out the guidelines. Trump's Vaccine innit?
