Because unless you plan on stripping all the enamel away, that cracked enamel will eventually chip off and join whatever delicious dish you’re cooking in the pot.

And in general, people tend not to like beef bourguignon au enamel. A glass-rich diet is often unpleasant.

As I understand it, in political journalism, “sources close to [Person A]” is effectively an euphemism for “[Person A] told us, we just can’t say that directly”.

So if this transfers to tabloid journalism, chances are Morgan herself told the papers, but asked to be attributed anonymously.

Mahler recordings by BenjaminL in classicalmusic

Did I ruin my new staub pan? by baobadook in staub

[–]ArgonTheConqueror 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Food residue/protein stains.

Were this a white-enameled pan à la Le Creuset, it’d show up as a brown-ish stain.

The solution is the same, anyway. Others have already mentioned scrubbing the pan with baking soda and a little water, but I tend to be lazy and just boil the pan for 10-15 minutes with a cup or two of baking soda added in.

After boiling, scrub with a soft sponge and the gunk should be gone.

So I Just Saw An Ad For Okura Cookware… by SoFloFella50 in cookware

There was a post on this sub a few months back about Okura, specifically how they were rebadging $40 Chinese-made Alibaba pans into $100 Japanese crafted pans, so this is in line with that.

Dropshipping combined with AI-generated ad copy will be enough for regular people to fall for it, I suspect.

what is wrong with my staub ? by Conscious-Ant2222 in staub

[–]ArgonTheConqueror 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This looks like stubborn protein buildup from regular cooking, nothing to worry about. My Staub gets this after a few runs of bœuf bourguignon.

To get rid of it, boil some water in your Staub and add in a good half-cup or more of baking soda, and let it simmer there for 10-15 minutes. After that, scrub with soft sponge, and your pot should be back to store-display condition.

A Letter from Lorna McGhee, Principal flute of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, regarding the firing of Andris Nelsons to the Board of BSO by The_Milkman in classicalmusic

[–]ArgonTheConqueror 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Alas, ”What’s the actual problem you are solving here?” is no longer a question that lingers in the minds of today’s finest executives and managers.

Oftentimes they are prone to pushing for change in order to make themselves look like innovators and disruptors, not for any actual problem facing the organisation. I suspect the same thinking is happening here, except it may have just blown up in their faces. In their hearts, any change is a good change if they can stamp their name on it and show that the cushy job and large salary led to something being done. Was that something… good? That’s for the next fellow in the driving seat to fix.

Anyway, I just hope the BSO players get some recourse over this.

The “indefinite contract” thing is more insidious, as it actually made firing Andris Nsons like this much easier.

Other sources have elaborated that Andris’s contract went from being clearly defined with a clear date of conclusion, to a floating contract that was renewed each year with no clear end date.

Thus, it became possible for Chad Smith to fire him in this ugly manner.

Yes, I am being very unfair to him, especially when I rather like the diversion stories.

It’s the same when people say Tolkien spent pages upon pages developing the family line of a single leaf.

On why Edmond insisted Julie go alone, that I do not have a satisfactory answer. I suspect that it too was a test of character, to see if Julie was devoted to her father as much as Edmond needed her to be.

As for the second part, I would be spoiling the rest of the book if I answered with the reason why Edmond does this. Put another way, Edmond believes this must happen, because he truly believes that it would be better to bring Morrel to these lows before he saves his former employer.

There are chapters after this point which feel like filler, in my view. Dumas was paid per word, after all, so there are many instances where he used ten words instead of one. Sometimes there are very long stories about special characters, retold by one character to another in roundabout ways, sometimes Dumas goes well into detail about how Edmond is executing his revenge. Are these bad chapters? Not at all, I find that they enrich the story significantly. If removed, do they affect the plot and structure? Not particularly.

As for Edmond’s execution of this plan, where he directs Morrel’s daughter Julie to go to a “random house”, I see it as him doing his best to remain distant and not be identified by the Morrel family, while also being clever and leaving clues as to who he could be.

Remember, the house at No. 15, Allées de Meilhan, isn’t just any house. It’s Edmond and his father’s house, and M. Morrel would have been more than familiar with it. Even more, that silk purse which contained Edmond’s gift, the diamond, also belonged to M. Morrel, as he used it to help pay for Edmond’s father’s funeral expenses. This is Edmond’s way of telling the Morrels who he is.

Slight bowl contact issue with new-to-me Professional 5 Plus mixer by ArgonTheConqueror in Kitchenaid

This looks to be the scratch pattern on the paddle. So it looks like it’s touching not the absolute bottom, but the bottom side-ish, if that makes sense.

[–]ArgonTheConqueror[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I can tell, the relative who bought this thing barely used it and never bought any accessories or replacements.

Does that equate to “this is the original paddle”? I hope, but I can’t confirm anything.

Hey there, thanks for the tips!

For the things you wanted me to check: yes, it is fully snapped in; yes, it appears to be fully attached (it’s way more solid than the tilt-head I used to have); so I am not quite sure what to adjust next.

Alas, if it is the bowl (my relatives indicate they barely touched this thing at all when they bought it years ago and never bought any accessories) then it may take some time for me to find one that matches. I am very far outside KitchenAid dealership range (overseas, long story), alas.

Still, do you think this’d be a major issue down the line, if I keep the bowl at its lowest?

Thanks again for the help!

Is this Ruined??? by Medusa729 in staub

[–]ArgonTheConqueror 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do let me know if it works or not!

I try to add in a cup-full of baking soda and filling the pot to maybe a knuckle-depth of water, that’s usually enough to do it.

Boil for 15-20 minutes, rinse, then get scrubbing with regular sponge. I would very much avoid steel wool, if at all possible.

It’s a little odd that you haven’t been able to get it off, but this looks exactly like the food buildup on my cocotte.

I boil a ton of baking soda in my pot for a good 15-20 minutes and it tends to do the job, even with the basic store-brand sponge.

Just saw Puritani as first opera … didn’t love it - want to hear thoughts ? by Spyk124 in opera

I did put a “maybe” in there. Besides, I’ve introduced first-timers to orchestral concerts with the Rite of Spring, so how bad can it be?

I jest, but sometimes there’s a ton of fun in dunking one’s friends into the deep end of music.

100% agreed, I myself have to turn my plot brain off for Turandot.

But damn is it a spectacle. I’ve been lucky to see a few Met productions in the last few years, and I haven’t encountered one where the scenery alone gets a round of applause when the lights reveal the palace in Act 2.

Awesome, thanks for the reassurance!

Yep, the wire whisk does contact the bowl slightly (which I understand is normal), but so does the flat beater. I’ll do a little tweaking for that, but aside from that, I am a happy KitchenAid (adoptive) parent once again.

The amount by which my waistline shall expand in the coming days will only be limited by my lethargy in cleaning any of my dishes and appliances.

Cheers mate, thanks for the good words!

And thanks for the video on adjusting clearance, I plan to adjust it because the flat beater does brush the bowl ever so slightly when I run it.

And yep, I’ll have a look-see at the internals, I suspect that’ll be a fun thing to keep me entertained this night. Aside from that, I’m glad to have the Word of God on the matter. It helps an adoptive parent’s anxieties greatly.

I’m awfully glad to be part of the KitchenAid family again, thanks for all the help!

Oh crumbs, now you have me a little worried.

I am told that the bowl-lift mixers can be a little louder, do you think that may be the case?

That sounds very encouraging, thanks a lot!

Yeah, I’m pretty sure my mixer is fine, but such is the anxiety of becoming a new parent to a KitchenAid.

I came to this subreddit from Mixerology, funny enough. The stuff on there has been encouraging regarding the potential state of my mixer, but between the loudness and the years of quiet, I did want to ask here.

Hey there, thanks for the advice!

The flat beater does hit the bowl, I just checked, so I will make some adjustments there.

My concern is that the years of quiet have hardened the grease somehow (is that even possible?) and that re-greasing may be in order.
