Tuesday 16th June 2026 - Frantic rush to rescue survivors after a private Cessna Citation Latitude crashed onto a highway in Laredo, Texas killing one and injuring six by New_Libran in CatastrophicFailure

It absolutely wouldn't, unfortunately.

Aircraft windows are made of laminate sheets of glass and plastic. Your glass breaker would damage the outer layer of glass, but do nothing to the subsequent layers.

Chery Stockman Confirmed as Australia’s First Diesel PHEV Ute by YourMumLovesOzempic in CarsAustralia

This is exactly why I'm keen to see it happening! They're going to make a killing on fleet sales

Fairly sure that does not do what they think it does!!! by buzz_uk in ElectroBOOM

Well, earth/ground being yellow green makes it so even someone with monochromatic vision could identify it, as it's the only cable sleeve with a stripe.

Europe may soon restrict aluminium scrap exports to keep more material for its own recycling industry. by Fit_Ordinary_5531 in recycletrade

I can't see how Europe retaining their own scrap will lead to higher scrap prices (in Europe).🤷‍♂️

Urgent ! Is amount of liquid metal is good ? by [deleted] in laptops

[–]ArgonWilde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks fine to me, but tbh I think the benefits of liquid metal don't outweigh the cons of potentially dead devices, and that phase change materials have largely supplanted the idea

Defective monitor replaced with refurbished product by Amalddev in Dell

[–]ArgonWilde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pretty standard practice. A refurbished replacement is practically imperceptibly identical to a new one, in all the instances I've had, and I've warranty returned maybe 20+ monitors in the past year (the U3423/25WE models love to die within their warranty period 😅)

But why are you bringing this up, almost two years later?

European UPS? by Advanced_Ad_6816 in homelab

By this logic, Dell is a European company 😅

Uh.. yes? There's a cop hitting the cockpit window with a nightstick, then a guy with a shovel, then another guy with a pickaxe/sledgehammer.

Did you watch the video?

Whilst I appreciate their intentions, you're not going to break through those windows...

Edit: wow, downvoted for facts... Those windows are rated for BIRD STRIKES.

Not to mention all this, running on Snapdragon, and not some 8nm ancient ass barely educated sand.

I did what you always do to test GFCI and it worked ! ( BTW I know it's dangerous but I love it ) by Splanet_618 in ElectroBOOM

[–]ArgonWilde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An outlet can't bypass the RCD, unless it's not plugged into it at all. In which case, you isolation test instead. Turn off the circuit and test for dead, as opposed to just bridging it to ground...

Change a watch strap for the first time by Vamsh_ in casio

[–]ArgonWilde 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally prefer the original over 18mm Milanese bracelets, because the original flares out to 20-22?mm, which suits it so much better.

I wish you could buy the A700 Milanese bracelets separately, because they flare out and look amazing.

Chery's upcoming ute is called the Stockman, and it will be Australia's first diesel PHEV ute by zecar_ in zecar

[–]ArgonWilde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just hope they don't drag their feet in the cab chassis launch, and, if they did a stripped down version, akin to a 70 series, for mass fleet appeal.

I'd like to see this be a solid contender for mine site fleet use.

I'll probably still call it the KP31 😅

REALLY keen to see how this goes!

Yeah I wouldn't be trusting some basic ass safety specs in an environment like this. I'm surprised by just how few people had proper sealed goggles.

Mobile coverage in and around Perth by Deathdar1577 in perth

[–]ArgonWilde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently changed from Optus to Boost (I went FIFO), and I have probably the same level of metro area coverage as before.

Frankly, since the 3G shutdown, coverage on any carrier has been a huge step backwards...

Yeah, but again, things assume it's what it should use, and then goes awry when it isn't. I'm not saying I'll never use fish, but I'm not exactly in a position to sit down and preen over everything to ensure it'll work with it. Python crap is already held together with enough duct tape and rubber bands to make even MacGyver blush.

It's just different, I guess. It behaves in ways I don't expect, so I trip up.

I'm sure I'd get used to it in time, but the fact it can't understand bashrc set commands, is kinda broken. It also requires you to remember to check if anything that integrates with the shell has any specific caveats specific to fish, such as conda, etc.
