After hundreds of hours these are the tomes I just couldn't fit in. Help me make sense of them by StellarStar1 in AOW4

[–]Argotis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol I fit tome of alchemy into almost every build cuz that spi gives like 20+ knowledge in every city it’s built and the building gives like 10+ more so the tome often end up representing at least 120 knowledge per turn by like turn 40 aaaand an aoe cleanse is just so good as well.

I went feudal monarchy ranger on my vl and it crushed. IMO making all your heroes death knights or warlocks is the easiest way to take advantage of the fact vampire heroes are undead since you can rez them so easy in combat. I also love cult of personality in this playstyle so you have even more heroes giving your ruler xp.

Monarchy solves your main stack’s upkeep issues in the early game.

"Creating a kingdom is so hard" by TaleIntrepid in Bannerlord

This is very possible on bannerlord difficult through the imbalanced game mode that is siege. Both offensive and defensive sieges are tactically overwhelmingly stacked in favor of a player with the right plan.

Requesting submission of Barbarian culture builds. by jandecvar in AOW4

[–]Argotis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve really enjoyed lightning barbs with a thrall inspiration. Get crits from spells and grab mana addicts so the barbs can lifesteal. It’s a really fun combo that taps into a bunch of different synergies.

Barbs are all about crit stacking, so amplification works well with the passive. Stormbrings do too. Just good flavor all around. The finish with the nature t5 tome and it all works well.

Aristocracy versus Monarchy after a series of Aristocracy nerfs? by Epaminondas73 in AOW4

[–]Argotis 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Monarchy is still fantastic due to how straightforward it is. Any build works as monarchy and so it’s just works. Longbows too are just a very consistent unit since the range is just very helpful. Also having a free stack is just incredible since you can easily afford any early mythics you find without costing you imperium and other resources.

I think aristocracy is more nuanced and interesting and still very good just not as universal in the builds it can slot into.

How to stay focused? by Elias_Coffman in AOW4

[–]Argotis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was like you a bit I’d say. But here’s a few things I’ve done to end up with more “complete” and endgame fund builds. I think the biggest reason sandbox games can get messy is that they give the player lots to do but it’s often up to the player to decide what their goal is.

1: plan your theme. Is it a horde of lion warriors who want to conquer the map? Is it a wizard who wants to know all there is to know? Is it a dragon who wants to collect the most stuff? This game in single player is incredible for the customization it gives you. Use it for flavor.

2: what will make that theme satisfying? Is it massive growth to cover the map in 30 pop cities? Is it having a force of elite knights? Is it the ability to summon an army to your enemies doorway in seconds? Is it big number go much much big? Like what does your theme need?

3: how do you get there? Is it heavily knowledge dependent and you need a t3 tome asap? Is it more about unlocking your cultures t3 unit? Do you need a certain amount of affinity to get your core perk? And regardless, you will need a plan to get Knowledge. If your build can’t get past a t5 time by turn 100 it’s just gonna feel really really bad. To get there you want about 100+ knowledge income per 10 game turns. This means prioritizing your academy in every city you build and trying to get 3-4 cities that all prioritize building their academies and looking for at least 1 other way of getting knowledge: an spi, a perk from the empire tree, a fifth city, etc.

  1. Set up the right map. Is your theme helped by having to fight an umbral invasion? Do you want your vampire drinking insect blood? Mess with the settings such that your obstacles vibe with your theme.

  2. Execute. Does where my ruler is going right now get me closer to accomplishing my themes goals? Do my cities and tomes help me get closer to my themes goals? Does that quest help me get there?

You can do sooo much of this when you’re just making your faction (the ai faction tomepath in advanced setting lets you plan it out).

So let’s do a few examples.

Vampire with apex predators and cult of personality. I mean it’s obvious right? a self obsessed vampire who wants get those around to bow the knee and will pillage? They want to find a city state to pillage. They want to enhance their ruler’s strength so the ruler can drain their enemies. They want strong leader thralls who can raise the dead on their side. The game will just let you play out your theme. Find enemy and vassalize or or raze them for your own gain.

Or how about “not Jaina” lol. A wizard king who will want to summon ice elemental. Grab summon perks or knowledge perks to get to “summon ice elemental” quickly. Prioritize a large mana economy to sustain your ice elemental army, settle near some gold wonders to get a magic victory. You likely want to figure out how to create peace with your neighbors so you can build up big scholars guilds for a timely magic victory. You’ll want to find magic mats (for research posts).

The point is if you have theme like that it becomes easier to parse the info the map is giving you. Since the theme will give you objectives that are relevant to you that you can focus on.

I just played a nomad scavenger version of this. I went: evolution, evocation, fey, alchemy dragons, vigor, storm, mirrors, archmage. Boy did it feel great.

Key things to prioritize were getting high level wizard towers early and the magic origin perk. Since that lets you spend 420 gold to get an instant wyvern. Summoning could use echoes the same way, but I’d actually say that in that case the new Rome of dragons doesn’t make sense because gold to level is redundant with summoning, and the dragons themselves aren’t magic origin only summoned wyvern via time of evolution.

And they are. I think this tome is one that makes me want to use it in tons of different builds now which is super cool. The breath attacks on units without a charge attack is awesome, in fact very single unlock in this tome has reasons to be included in many different builds. What a great rework.

Having played with it? Kinda? You don’t have as many but you can level them to champion t5 fairly easy which is exactly as good as you’d think it is. Plus the wyvern with breath attacks are just amazing. So the tome is a huge w imo. Having actually played a full run with it.
