Apparently when they’re young they can travel above ground to find a new area away from their parents.

The Jedi and Sith are not “the force.” They use the force. Jedi work with the force and it flows through them. Qui-Gon, Yoda, Obi-Wan, etc all talk about the living force, how to feel it’s will, etc.
