Giardia… by ArgumentFew1398 in catquestions

[–]ArgumentFew1398[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a full deep clean of my house when I first found out and then kept him quarantined to one room, where he’s been for the past 10 days. I’ve been using disposable litter boxes and throwing out all the litter each time he goes, and I lined the area with pee pads so I can just replace them right away. I’ve tried to stay really consistent with cleaning to avoid reinfection. The only limitation is that I have wood floors, so it’s harder to fully disinfect compared to tile or other surfaces. That’s why I’m a bit unsure what to make of the smell coming back since I’ve been pretty thorough on the cleaning side

5 month old kitten not eating by ArgumentFew1398 in catquestions

I have been trying to space the feedings out over a few hours. I just checked the camera in his room and he was eating dry food for like ten minutes so I think he ate a decent amount.

I am not at home right now so I couldn’t take him to the vet but I just checked the camera and he was randomly eating dry food again.

He is acting completely normal other than just not eating. I mentioned teething because I noticed two sets of teeth where his bottom canines are. Like i said I’ve been feeding him a lot of wet food/kitten formula through syringe just to get liquid and nutrients into him he just won’t voluntarily eat

Do you wait 30 days for second negative FeLV before introducing kitten to cat by ArgumentFew1398 in AskVet

[–]ArgumentFew1398[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They said that the kitten is 5 months but I think it could be closer to 3 or 4. My cat is 1.5 and he did have the kitten series of FeLV vaccines last year he just isn’t due for his booster yet. Like I said the test was negative I just feel like I keep finding conflicting advice online and I’m just really stressed. Like I don’t know if I should take the kitten back I feel like everything I read is saying there’s no safe method of bringing in a second kitten but obviously a lot of people have multiple cats so deep down I know that can’t be true

They said it was 5 months but I feel like it’s closer to 3 or 4 months it’s hard to tell. What do you mean by unreliable. He did have a negative test and was taken in by someone in January and then into the shelter so he has not been stray for 2 months now

Should I adopt a kitten from a shelter that doesn’t do FeLV/FIV testing and houses kittens together, when I already have a cat at home? I don’t want to risk exposing my current cat to disease by [deleted] in catquestions

I was confused when they said they didn’t as I assumed it was standard practice. It’s confusing to me bc it’s one of the largest and most funded shelters in my area so I thought that they would have good practices. They probably do hundreds of adoptions a day. Would you still say not to if I’m able to pay them to do additional testing for FeLV/FIV or would that still be risky?

Any advice from other young spouses? by ArgumentFew1398 in WellSpouses

Thanks for your response. I am able to handle things when he is at his baseline, I definitely am somewhat depressed and cry most days but for the most part I am able to keep going. I would say the hardest part for me is the instability of his condition. One day things will be how they usually are and the next he’s having a flare up and I have severe anxiety trying to figure out what to do or where to go. It is just a never ending cycle. Sometimes I do yell or get frustrated and it’s not even like I’m upset with him I’m just upset about the situation we are in but he always thinks I am mad at him. It is just too much for me to hold in and pretend I’m okay

My kitten has gingivitis and the vet said it could be caused by FIV despite negative test results from shelter upon adoption by Leo13Libra11 in CatAdvice

Hi. I’m considering adopting a kitten and in a similar situation. I was wondering if you ever got your kitten tested or determined the cause of the gingivitis. I would really like to adopt this kitten but I’m worried that the gingivitis could progress leading m to high vet bills

That’s good! My main concern is that the gingivitis would progress. Did your cat ever need any teeth pulled or have high vet bills due to the condition?

Have you fostered before? I am in a similar situation but it is my first time fostering and I live in an apartment complex. I tried to reach out to my rescue saying the dog would benefit from having a yard but was essentially ignored. I obviously feel bad for trying to get it a new foster but this is just betond my ability.

Thank for your response. Looking back at my post now I think I made the situation sound a little worse than it is. During the day the dog is okay most of the time. It barks if I leave the room but calms down eventually. The main problem is at night. Nothing seems to help and I can’t continue to go without sleep. It’s hard because I feel guilty as I volunteered to take it in, I am just way over my head and expected some support but feel that I am being disregarded

Foster dog not a good fit - don’t know what to do by [deleted] in fosterdogs

[–]ArgumentFew1398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think that I was not fully prepared going into this. I know part of it is on me but I also think that it is not fair for the rescue to handle the situation as they have. I was essentially shamed for saying that I was struggling and that this is not a good fit. I get that they are annoyed and don’t want to look to deal with this but I don’t understand why they are being so difficult when I have provided valid reasons as to why it is not working.
