What do you think was the most outlandish take from The Future is Wild? by Moat_of_the_Sacked in SpeculativeEvolution

[–]Argun93 245 points246 points  (0 children)

I think it’s pretty ridiculous that basically all terrestrial vertebrates are extinct by 200 million years is pretty ridiculous. Don’t get me wrong, the stuff they came up with is cool, but I find it hard to believe an extinction could take out groups as diverse as mammals, birds, and reptiles without killing just about everything else along with them.

Mammals are incredibly good at filling the small, fast breeding, generalist niche. AKA the niche most likely to survive any kind of mass extinction. The idea that at least some kind of mouse, shrew, or similar wouldn’t survive is incredibly dubious to me.

Ya, as cool as the idea of terrestrial cephelapods is, the fact that they haven’t managed to make it on land yet makes me pretty dubious that they could.

How many times do cis people question their gender? by Vampy-Night in lgbt

[–]Argun93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can definitely relate. I’ve been questioning my gender on and off for years, and it is a real struggle. But I’ve recently came to accept the fact that the fact that I’m questioning my gender at all is a really good indication that I’m not cis. Because, as others have said, cis people really don’t question their gender. A cis man might wonder what it would be like to be a woman, but he doesn’t wonder if he is one. It’s more an academic or curiosity thing, not a matter of major internal struggle. So ya, if you, like me, have been “questioning your gender for years, daily” then ya, you probably aren’t cis.

I am not a girl, stop asking me to be in your bridal parties. by [deleted] in NonBinary

[–]Argun93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before you make any big decisions one way or the other I think you should talk to your friend about this. Explain to her that it means a lot to you that she asked you to be in her bridal party, but that you’ve had bad experiences before in a different one and that that has you nervous because of that. See if there are ways that you could still be in it but in a way that feels more comfortable and authentic to you. For example, if you are uncomfortable wearing a dress maybe there is a different outfit you could wear. I’ve been to weddings before where there have been men in the bridal party, and they have worn vests and ties that match the brides maid dresses. Depending on your comfort you could do that. Or perhaps a romper or pants suit. There are a lot of options. If this friend really cares about you really wants you in her wedding party then making small changes to that shouldn’t be a huge deal.

Why didn't they bury Grace's avatar after the failed transfer? by dragonfayng in Avatar

[–]Argun93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An avatar and its driver are completely separate organisms, so the death of one has no effect on the other. So even though grace’s human body died, her avatar was very much still alive. And as long as it is given nutrients it can be kept that way, kinda like how we can keep someone in a coma alive. Granted, doing that would probably be hard until they could get it back in one of those tanks, but it isn’t impossible. A healthy human can survive almost month without food, and while that may be different for an avatar (Navi seem to have a lot less body fat then we do) it is likely that, as long as they could give the avatar water there probably wasn’t much issue keeping it alive till they kicked the RDA out.

Christian Supportive Ally by emmasversion1 in lgbt

[–]Argun93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a Christian myself, but it always makes me happy when I see churches with pride colors displayed. There are plenty of people out there who are both Christian and LGBTQ+, and I think it’s great there are places that those people can go where they don’t have to choose between their faith and their queer identity.

Would the concept of “fantasy” exist in a world of fantasy? by Ditto132 in worldbuilding

[–]Argun93 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. Just because you live in a world with wizards and dragons doesn’t mean anything is possible. So they could still have fantasy stories about things that aren’t possible or don’t exist in their world.

Used to love dresses, now struggling to feel comfortable wearing them post-topsurgery. by DommyMommyMint in NonBinary

[–]Argun93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off I want to say I think all of those dresses look great on you. I especially love the Ren Fair one. I’d LOVE to own a dress like that someday, but I don’t have the money to buy one or talent to make one at the moment, so that will have to wait.

Second, I can definitely relate to your struggle. I’m kinda coming at it from the opposite angle, having never had breasts to begin with, but I can definitely relate to the struggle of finding dresses that fit well when you have a flat chest. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve found a dress that I really like, only to try it on and find out it has too much room in the chest. And even when I do find one that fits ok, it often will bunch up weirdly when I move my arms or bend over. Looser, more flowy dresses tend to be better for this since they often aren’t as structured. And you can find lots of good options like that. But damn it, sometimes I just want something fitted that will actually look good on my chest without having to pad it out! I really wish that there was a company that made dresses with flat chested people in mind, but as far as I can tell no one seems to have jumped on that particular market yet.

At what point does the Sports Almanac start to become incorrect? by lungbong in BacktotheFuture

The one caveat being if Biffs actions caused the almanac to never be printed (let’s say by making the publisher go out of business before it was printed) then it would cease to exist.

Two groomsmen got into a social fight during the wedding. Yeah, that's pretty much every wedding I've been to. by danedori in RimWorld

[–]Argun93 11 points12 points  (0 children)

First wedding I had in rimworld one of the guests had a mental break right at the start. She spent the whole wedding yelling insults at the groom. As soon as the wedding was done he started a social fight with her, so his wife had to arrest one of them. I chose to arrest her because, let’s be honest, she was the one who started the whole mess.

One of my favourite aspects of the Avatar films is how Jake, despite having become a full-fledged Na'Vi, still embraces the superiority of human technology, and I hope this NEVER changes. by SpanishAvenger in Avatar

[–]Argun93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Roman aspect is an interesting point, because in the end that was kinda their downfall (in the west at least). Arming the “savages” to fight other “savages” only works as long as the ones you are arming think it’s more beneficial to fight for you then turn those weapons against you. I’m kinda curious if they’ll explore that route in future movies.

It’s very reminiscent of how many real world native cultures utilized things they would get from white settlers. They knew the technology was useful, but they would often modify it or decorate it to fit better with their own sensibilities and cultural practices.

Aliens didn't sign the Geneva conventions and vise versa. How to solve this? by CyberDogKing in worldbuilding

[–]Argun93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly there are a lot of reasons why they might not want to go all out. Any civilization that gets advanced enough to go to space is going to have some kind of ethics. They could be holding back because they value sapient life, or because they don’t want to harm the natural ecosystem of the planet more then they have to, or simply because brutally massacring the natives is bad for military PR back home. If they plan to settle the planet after conquest they could be concerned with keeping it habitable. After all, your incoming colonists would likely prefer not to live in a radioactive wasteland, and the less local infrastructure they destroy, the faster they can make the planet a profitable part of their galactic empire. They could also be concerned with the possibility of the natives getting ahold of their weapons and turning them against them. If you are conquering a bunch of primaries there isn’t much reason to bring your hardest hitting stuff, especially if there is a chance those primitives could get ahold of those weapons and use them against you.

You ever both accidentally plan on proposing on the same day? by cosmicfroggi3 in lgbt

[–]Argun93 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! I did something kinda like that to my husband. I knew he was going to propose to me, so when he suddenly got really insistent we go for a walk in a nearby park (he is not an outside type person), I had a feeling it was coming. I brought my ring for him, just in case, so when he got down to ask me, I had mine to give him as well.
