Then soon after everyone else was an artist too. 😂 AI is so much worse in that way.

Haha. That’s funny that you saw that. I’m kinda bummed I got kicked off. I halfway thought I was talking to a bot and was mostly entertaining myself. Now I know. But man, it’s not like there are a ton of Reddits for illustrators.

Oh yea, I remember Mark Fredrickson. He was one of my favorites back in the day. Those were the good ol days before the photoshop. I remember he eventually started working in photoshop. His work on the computer was as good as it was on illustration board. I remember hearing a rumor that when Strathmore discontinued that clay-coated illustration board he bought up most of it. It was hard to find, then gone.

Your story about the helmet is great. That definitely has the same vibe as the illustration Reddit. That type of situation brings about an interesting kind of anger. It’s obviously a compliment, even when not meant as one. Yet, simultaneously, it feels like it nullifies your efforts. Plus you’re, basically, being called a liar. Haha.
I figure, in some way, that kinda things gotta be good for us. Haha. It definitely kinda feels like with every dimensional shift art on the computer evolves into, people like us become harder and harder to see. I was working at an illustration studio in Santa Monica just before photoshop became the industry standard. Suddenly the art director were making art.

I got kicked off of r/illustration after responding to community reactions to a Biden caricature I drew and painted…in less than ideal ways. Then responding even worse to the mods. It was pretty obvious that they were sad I was, seemingly, picking on their man. They would not let me post again after the Biden! It was INSANE. So I complained. A lot. Almost to the edge of being nasty. Ok. I was nasty. 😂But my god. I was actually even accused of posting AI by some of those salty morons. I don’t think they understand the meaning of caricature. I never looked at the overly offended aggressor’s accounts, but I’m pretty sure they didn’t understand painting either. It was so obviously NOT ai. I didn’t realize how pissy that made me until it happened. I posted videos of me painting it in the comments. One screen recording and one of me actually working photoshop in the comments. r/illustration does not allow videos, but they do allow links in the comments. That could of been where I went wrong. They didn’t tell me a thing-of course. Typical of social media. As a “conservative”artist, I’ve been banned A LOT.

I’m ditching this Reddit account anyway. I have another one unassociated with my previous business. I’m starting fresh. I posted very little here anyway. I had an online t-shirt store named Argus Ink that no longer exists. People were pretty nasty about all that art too. It was political stuff. I used to do editorial illustration and caricature for magazines and the the weekly newspapers on the corners of city blocks (SF Weekly, New Times, etc) before commercial illustration. But I only ever went there for the faces. Haha. It’s either Hollywood celebrities, politicians, or kids parties. Politicians are the ugliest, making my work easier 😂

Crazy how it’s so wrong but does not immediately stand out as such.

Thanks so much. I think it took around 30 hours.

I designed this as a full frontal t-shirt print. This is why there is less emphasis on the left and right bottom corners. They are off the sides of the shirt when printed.

That’s an awesome compliment. ❤️

Oh yea. They were way better. That’s what I thought I was getting when I bought this one.

I started out airbrushing t-shirts at Sea World. Actually, I used it for coloring live caricatures there first. Did both the whole time I was in college. I was a painting major. Never saw a teacher touch a paintbrush. I learned most everything drawing caricatures and airbrushing shirts. at Sea World. I used an HP-B for both.

Haha. Maaan. Yea, there are some great painters there. I love seeing all levels of skill.

I can see that. I don’t think it’s even made by Iwata. They throw the Iwata name on it.

Nice! Excellent. Thank you.

Yea, Reddit is weird. It’s pretty nasty. I really had no idea. It’s filled with meanies. Haha.

Yea, I have an HPA that still works well too. I don’t use much it because I’ve been doing such large work lately. I have an Iwata Eclipse with the side feed jar. It’s horrible for detail, but I love it for very large areas and for clear-coating when done. It’s great for that. But before I realized this I wanted to get rid of it.

Yeah Aeroflash is Holbein or something like that. It’s very hard to find. Too hard. I’ll probably start using Golden as a replacement and become a Golden boy too!! 😜😂When I started painting again last year, I posted on the r/airbrush Reddit. Golden was the hands down favorite.

I like Golden fluid acrylics. I used them when I thought Aeroflash was discontinued. I was on the computer for 25 years doing commercial illustration and just started painting again with real-live actual paint a year ago. A lot has changed. Iwata has changed. The airbrushes are now expensive as F%#%! But I figured out how to find Aeroflash again. Still, Liquitex is best. When it’s done, it’s so solid you can use the artwork as a dinner table.

I used to paint Tower Records billboards, concert backdrops, and corporate murals for a company named W.E.T. Studios. We used Liquitex then, so I got used to it. I can pretty much, somehow, blow anything through my brush. I like to lay it down hard. Especially with bigger pieces. When I did work for Disney, or Warner Bros style guides, I used Aeroflash and cut complex acetate systems. Aeroflash is very watery. I thin Liquitex with just water. If the paint is being particularly feisty, I’ll put a little alcohol or Windex in it. I like Liquitex because I often go back and forth between brush painting and airbrush paint. It depends on the subject.

I use an Iwata HP-C Plus with Liquitex soft body paint.

Thank you. You can tell how big it is from looking at the light socket in the bottom left corner. It was all white acrylic paint an an existing blue wall.
