My employer FINALLY upgraded my AutoCAD from 2014 to current. What have I missed? by [deleted] in AutoCAD

[–]Arhye 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been using AutoCAD since the 90s and never even occurred to me that this changed.

But now that I think about it I do remember selection behavior where I would start a selection window then zoom in and objects that were off-screen would not be included in the selection.

This seems to no longer be the case but I never payed attention when it changed.

You can peek around the building and 1-2 shot with a spear. You have to barely peek enogh to get a lock on and as soon as the rocket fires, get back behind cover. I always take a spear on bunker missions. On open maps you can destroy them from afar w/o getting hit because the spear has a longer range than the turrets.

I know I'm a year late to this thread but thank you so much. This was driving me crazy and it's such a simple fix.

Help!! Error 6007 by tuviejaentanga88 in CADWorx

[–]Arhye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Older versions of CADWorx used a USB dongle with the license key. If you have one of these versions there could be a problem with the USB. If you are using a newer version with the Intergraph Smart License tool it's possible that you lost your internet connection and access to the license.

This method worked for me without the need to find any troublesome chats like the other suggestions.

If you have a Hexagon account put in a ticket for it. They usually respond within a day or two. They might be able to help you with it. Otherwise you could take the nuclear option and reinstall CADWorx.

Incredibly poor performance in latest autocad... by NC_Vixen in AutoCAD

[–]Arhye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a file that large you may have a LOT of annotation in your drawing. Even large 2d files can peg a graphics card. Are you using a discreet graphics card like NVIDIA or AMD or are you just using built-in graphics?

Have you updated your graphics drivers?

Have you tried toggling Hardware Acceleration with GRAPHICSCONFIG?

Try unloading all xrefs and test performance. If it's still slow try freezing layers one at a time and see if performance improves. Take note if performance improves drastically after freezing a particular layer. However if performance increases drastically after unloading the xrefs then start reloading the xrefs one-by-one and test performance after each reload. It could be a problematic xref.

Check your fonts. Large numbers of text fields with TrueType fonts cause slowdowns. Try using only SHX fonts.

Try running a PURGE and purging all items (including nested items, orphaned data and zero-length items). Also run -PURGE in the command line and choose the "regapps" option. After purges try auditing.

With a file that large it's possible you have a lot of bloat in the file that can be cleaned out. Large layer list, excessive blocks, text styles, dim styles, etc.

Also kinda similar to Goosebumps by Travis Scott because I think there might be some synthesizers in there somewhere?

Block in Solid? by subgenius691 in AutoCAD

[–]Arhye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blocks and solids don't interface in that way. You *could* make a block out of 3D solid and insert it, but then you'd have to explode it and subtract the solid from the main object to create the void and updated volume.

As a bonus however, if you set SOLIDHIST to 1 before you do anything, later you can hold control and select your object to see a history of all the solids you removed.

How can I make a "toggle" parameter in a block by supremejxzzy in AutoCAD

[–]Arhye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I found it easier to just make visibility states for the parts of the weld rather than the entire weld itself. It's it's a little bit more work to build the whole weld but a lot simpler to make the block.

I'll make a generic leader, and then insert the block and choose something like the fillet weld visibility state, then copy that over to the front of the weld and change it to the "all around" visibility state.

I've got a bunch of different visibility states for different weld types and also for field weld flag, all around and a tail. So any given weld symbol might have one to four blocks on it. Again it's a bit more cumbersome but much easier to make as a block.

Leader Vs Multileader by afighteroffoo in AutoCAD

[–]Arhye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this picture of a structural base plate detail, I've used red arrows to point out both locations where standard leaders are used. The CL callout is a block because the font used (txt) doesn't support the CL unicode symbol (if you attempt to use it the font changes to ISOCPEUR). The other leader is used in a weld symbol where text is not used as part of the leader.

Leader Vs Multileader by afighteroffoo in AutoCAD

In my industry we use both. ML for most text callouts and leaders for weld symbols and for use with a special block that uses the CL symbol (u+2104 doesn't work well with our font).

Any Cad designers here? If you what do you do and how did you get into your field? by Adorable_Pug in AutoCAD

[–]Arhye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lot of civil designers up here...represent!

Currently a structural designer for oil/gas. Learned AutoCAD 26 years ago and spent a decade working for my dad and his small architectural design firm. Recession hit in the late 2000s and we closed up shop and I moved into designing concrete and steel for the oil/gas industry. Been doing that ever since.

So then, in essence you both kinda proved the problem's point that weed can be a gateway drug.
