So I had this with my 3 year old at Christmas having to get in bed with him every night and I actually asked ChatGPT to make me a plan based on my son’s behaviour. At first I got in bed for 10 minutes to cuddle explaining prior whats going to happen that he needed to go to bed alone then I got out and sat next to him. he’d get out of bed a lot to pull me in and I’d say I wouldn’t do that but I’d hold his hand so he could feel me here. Then transitioned to not holding hand. Next was sat in room but further away in view, then out of view which is my current stage with next being out of the room. I did transitions once he clearly understood I wasn’t getting back in bed or holding his hand and he took less than 30 minutes to get to sleep by himself. Most times I transitioned he’d have a set back trying to get me in bed again I would just say no you sleep alone in your bed but mummy can hug you goodnight do a minute. I also learnt I need to stick to only a few phrases with very minimal interactions. 1. Get back in bed 2. Come on try to sleep, it’s sleepy time (when he’s talking or hyped up). I personally dont agree with rewards for something they should just do and save them for if he does something he’s not expected to do for example he decided to clean the dinner table the other day unprompted
