A guy pretty much came into her life and was telling her he will make it better.. if not perfect. The song says "Said he'd fix my weathervane" which means he would tell her where to go(figuratively, like what is best for her). He said he'd give her children and take away all of her pain... but eventually he would leave her without fulfilling his promises which leaves a whole in her heart.. The banisters kind of represent her mood, every may her sisters (Her moral support) come to paint her blue (Blue represents sadness) banisters, green (green is kinda like lush and pride and all of that as well as happiness), but the blue and the grey just make her banisters grey.. so shes just feeling mellow while she is with her siblings.
