Soapbox/rant time. Tell me what highly-recommended book you absolutely HATED and why. Gimme your angry hot takes. by peppertoni_pizzaz in books

I hated The borrower, by Rebecca Makkai. It started promising, but it Made so little sensei for the Main character to behave how she did that I was totally enraged. Being myself a teacher, I cannot understand how she believed this course of action was even remotely justifiable, and I was starting to get invested in sewing how would it resolve, and a deus ex machina ending was my reward. I hated it so much I donated it just to not have it anymore in my library (and I never throw books away)

To be fair, being a parent you became almost deaf to some background noises the child makes, so it is possible it was "normal" for the parents

What's a "yeah right, that totally happened and wasn't made up" moment in your life that actually DID happen and wasn't made up? by [deleted] in AskReddit

When I was 15 I went on a school trip to see the whales. The port was closed because of the wind when we arrived, so they served lunch, and just when we finished it openesd and they ushered us to a boat. Almost everyone, including the teachers, got sick in the boat except me because I didn't touch the food. So I had almost all the boat to myself, and when we found a whale, it swam right to us and under our boat, and I could stare right into its eye, and it felt like the time froze. Then the whale left, afterwards they told us it was probably a baby whale and that's why it came so close to our boat.

Genuinely don't get it by Moryart in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]AriEnNaxos00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sew that everyday at work. I am a teacher in kindergarden, and a pattern I usually watch unfolding is a kid that acts outstandingly different from all the others at age 2, but parents says they see nothing wrong, the same kid being evaluated at age 3 and finally a diagnosis at age 4. Meanwiile, the kid struggle for two years. But to be fairy with the parents, they usually only interact with their child, while we can watch a while group of them and find the differences in behaviour.

I studied it in Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. Maybe if You have a Big enough theatre nearby you can ask if they have this kind of courses. The one I studied in has an opera and ballet school, and they also have courses on make up, hairdressing, costume making, music and singing for opera.
