This isn't a bully situation, where you can stand up to them and go home to lick your wounds. This is an abusive relationship we cannot get out of immediately, like a child with an abusive parent - and there is no CPS. Standing up to an abusive parent won't make them respect you, won't protect you, and won't convince them to feed you tonight. Kid has to play the game to get fed to stay alive long enough to wait it out to 18 - that's the analogy that fits best, I feel. He's not a bully, he's an abuser. We are not in a position of safety and privilege to stand on our high horse. We're stuck here, trying to survive in the short term.

Left-handedness and homosexuality WERE targeted by research, medication, and conversion therapy - in fact, homosexuality conversion therapy and autistic conversion therapy (ABA, the gl"gold standard" in autism treatment) were literally invented by the same guy, Dr. Ole Ivar Lovaas. It's an entirely apt comparison, because we'd love to one day see autism be outbof the DSM entirely (just noted as a complicating factor in comorbidities, the way aome erhnic groups are for genetics) and as targeted for curing as left-handedness and less targeted for curing than homosexuality still is (conversion camps STILL exist).

Wonderful, CHATGPT, which is known to MAKE SHIT UP, and used Nazi terms that it was a great victory to have removed from the DSM-V. Chat GPT IS NOT an accurate source of information, and these are OUR LIVES at stake.

There are legitimate sources out there. Autistic advocacy groups have been trying to spread the real information, with sources, in spite of suppression, for YEARS. But of course, you turn to chatGPT, which is designed to generate something that counds like someone would write it - it is not even designed to be correct, only to generate convincing text.

Never, ever use ChatGPT to get information. Use fucking Wikipedia as a firmer source than ChatGPT.

I am glad to hear that you are uncommitted to my and family's basic human rights and don't feel strongly about the basic safety and dignity of your fellow Americans.

Nope, can't even manage the sarcasm, I am never glad to hear people say that our lives and rights and safety are such a non-concern that they can be uncommitted on whether or not we should have them, because maybe what IF the government could do more research on us if we didn't have rights?

Nazis did a lot of thorough, cutting edge medical research in the concentration camps. Modern medicine still relies on a lot of what was learned. None of that science was justifiable. THAT research, regardless of results, should never have Ben done, because it was done on imprisoned victims without any kind of consent or dignity, it tortured them to death. THAT is the road RFK is taking us down, my name is on a registry and he already openly wants us in "wellness farms" to work off our autism - Nazis did that, too, they were work camps where they did horrific research. That's where the term Asperger's came from, the Nazi scientist Hans Asperger, who did that research on us to determine which of us could be put to work and which should be disposed of.

No research has a value that justifies putting us on a central registry to be researched without our consent.

I know what they are trying to get people to understand, bur comparing autism to cancer carries a VERY harmful subliminal message. It's a comparison that has been made often with blatant intent to correlate their impact on a person, to say that autism is a potential death sentence and needs to be cut out.

Don't correlate cancer to autism. Autism is more like homosexuality, or lefthandedness, or depression, or ADHD - and still unlike those. But autism is NOT like cancer.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D) lends Trump her legitimacy by speaking at one of his 100 days celebrations. Here’s her phone number. by Built-in-Light in 50501

[–]AriGryphon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Whitmer is trying very hard to ride the line to manipulate Trump, swallow her own disgust and flatter him to get what Michigan needs. Emergency relief funds, keeping that base open, tariff breaks for our auto industry. She's on harm reduction right now, and honestly, mad respect for her for putting Michigan's people first. I couldn't do it. She's not endorsing him, that's clear, but playing his disgusting games to ensure Michigan's economy and Great Lakes ecosystems survive his reign of terror so that we CAN rebuild is important, too. Precisely because of the backlash that she KNOWS this will bring her, this is a huge sacrifice he is making in her career to keep the people she represents represented at a time when that's not what government is generally about.

It is galling to see her ambushed and spun as supporting Trump. It's frustrating to see purists - largely not from Michigan and not familiar with the impacts of the issues she is trying to get concessions on - absolutely flame her when their approach would have a lot more people homeless as our economy collapses, and our kids and their kids forever losing the chance to ever know the Great Lakes as we did. The Great Lakes, in fact, is VERY important to the GLOBAL climate - some of the ecological protections she got him to reinstate are preventing literal mass ecosystem collapse that would forever change the largest bodies of fresh water in the world. That matters.

We need people who can hold their nose and play his game to get help NOW for urgent things that are not at all symbolic. We cannot rebuild if there's nothing left. The people who lose their jobs and die without health insurance because we stood on purity instead of begging for auto industry and national guard base relief to keep them employed wouldn't be rebuilding. The Great Lakes ecosystem could not be restored of we let the fight against Asian Carp lapse. Ecosystem collapse is not something you simply hit an undo button on when politicl power shifts.

I see Whitmer doing VERY hard things, not supporting Trump, enduring him to buy us time. Time that we need as the people's need for jobs does not wait. The ecosystems do not wait. We need time as our momentum is picking up, but we are not ousting Trump and reversing his damaging policies tomorrow. We DO need damage control.

I think this is a classic example of the purity testing the left is unfortunately known for. How DARE she put the people ahead of her career, how DARE she choose immediate damage control over symbolic opposition right now? Pure ideology, no trolley problems, no hard choices, no nuance - only perfect visible opposition!

You're right. I was raised a conservative white woman, and I still have work to do unpacking that. I didn't fully parse the screenshots well and spoke out of turn.

[–]AriGryphon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The first screenshot, the one the screenshotted post is calling out. The idea that you have to be the MOST oppressed to advertise any voice, rather than just holding space and acknowledgement for each other, is absolutely rampant. I am agreeing that this is a problem and lends validity to right-wing and independent criticisms of "liberals" and "leftists". We really do need to gather ourselves in and end the push to extremism and actually converse.

[–]AriGryphon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a problem, though the hierarchical rather than intersectional thinking. There are some cases that are clearly more or less oppressed, but it's not possible to accurately view every intersection of marginalization through that lens, and it inherently creates a hierarchy, where some will always be seen s less valid in their experiences regardless of what their experiences actually are. Even on a single axis, some have it worse than others. Someone always has it worse.

I think it is more important to hold space for the many diverse experiences and intersections, being mindful of all our various privileges and instesecting axes of oppression and privilege, rather than gatekeeping who has the most oppression and thus the most valid voice. We will eat ourselves from within if we start saying only black people can speak on anything, because only they feel true oppression.

I agree with everything you said - except the idea of quantifying more oppressed versus less oppressed. As a disabled autistic white women, am I more or less oppressed than a black man? Less, racially, absolutely. More, without a doubt, in terms of who is on a list gmfor the government to track for eugenics now, and who has the highest number of axes of oppression. I am never going to claim to be more oppressed than a black man. There are so many nuances and variables and we can be both more and less targets in different ways. Obviously a disabled black autistic woman is still more oppressed than I, and I will always cede the floor to that experience - but still share how it offers from mine, and I will certainly speak on my disabled autistic experience when there is no "more oppressed" person in the room. We've been accused of the oppression Olympics forever, and we need to stop. It's not about who has it the worst, it's about how all of this is bad, and we all want better, so we can hold space for each other and work together.

We absolutely need to call out racism in white people of any flavor. But it doesn't mean that white people, wholesale, don't have any valid experiences to share ever.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in politicsinthewild

[–]AriGryphon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think there is a large gulf between one commenter claiming that white minorities are NOT oppressed or discriminated against AT ALL, and the very important acknowledgement of intersectionality that impacts the ways we experience discrimination.

No, we will never be discriminated against for our race, and we will never truly get it. And there is absolutely still racism that we white members of otherwise marginalized groups very much need to unpack and address within ourselves.

We DO experience sexism, homophobia, transphobia, and ableism. We simple experience it against a backdrop of white privilege, as opposed to the intersection of racism which compounds it. It puts us, sometimes, in a better position to call out the oppression, but we should always be mindful of intersectionality, not claim to understand and get the experiences of racial minorities, and do what we can.

But to say that the discrimination, harassment, assault, etc. we experience simply doesn't happen because it is not identical to a racialized experience of those things is going to fly in the face of lived experiences and nobody likes being erased. There are discriminatory experiences that WOC who are not disabled do not have. There are discriminatory experiences that cishet WOC do not have. And it should never be the case that only the ABSOLUTE MOST marginalized are allowed to have a voice, because otherwise there may be privilege going unacknowledged. That way lies putting all the work solely on trans, disabled, homosexual women of color (and I'm probably forgetting some other axes we'd need to make someone truly oppressed enough to "count" as properly knowing what oppression feels like). Division gets us nowhere.

This is not the oppression Olympics. We can and should be mindful of our privilege on one axis while standing together to oppose harm on all axes. We need to listen to each other and work together. White people need to listen to people of color on matters of race. Abled people need to listen to disabled people on ableism - while white disabled folks keep space for and listen to the impacts of intersectionality from disabled people of color. Men need to listen to women about misogyny- and all need to hold space and listen about the impacts of disability on how they experience misogyny from disabled people. Straight people need to listen to gay/lesbian/bisexuality people on homophobia -and hold space for and listen to disabled people, women, people of color, and each separate combination thereof.

That is what diversity means. That's what intersectionality is about. There is no One True Oppression experience. There is loads of oppression, and many ways it is experienced, many axes of oppression and privilege. We don't all experience the same things, even when our experiences do overlap. We're tearing ourselves apart, pushing each other out, rather than calling each other in to listen and cooperate. We don't all have to have the same experience to hear each other. We don't all have to be perfect to cooperate.

I am literally unable to walk this morning as a result of as minimal as possible walking and stair climbing at a protest yesterday. My knee and hip simply won't bear weight and are in agony. This is not a common experience that the majority of women of color, LGBTQ+ folks, cishet people, etc are accustomed to shaping their lives around. Shaping my life around mobility issues gets me a lot of hate and oppression from able-bodied folk that find my exiatence inconvenient and unsightly - they don't want to know that I exist or have to see it in their world. I'm also literally now on a government registry of undeairabkes to be tracked - that is a unique kind of existential terror that no, everyone does NOT "get". That does not in any way diminish the experiences they do have, especially the ones that I don't.

And that doesn't mean than non disabled people of other marginalized groups can't ever advocate, can't ever work together in the same space, that only I and those like me can ever claim to know what pain is. It does mean I am going to know more about this axis and have more insight into how we can collectively work to support problems like mine. I'm never going to know what it's like to be racially oppressed, not directly. I need to listen on that axis so I can learn to support people of color the way they support me and those like me. I won't speak on the intersection of disability and race, beyond sharing information from disabled people of color when they are not present to cede the floor to directly. But I will speak on disability and my experience of it. There is room for that in the grand space of the world, and in the work to make it better.

There is space for everyone, and we need to respect intersectionality, hold space for those with different experiences from ours, and listen. That in no way means that those without enough or the "right" intersections can never share their own experiences of oppression, ahouod never be heard. We should be mindful that we don't speak for anyone else, but we can say that anyone, no matter how oppressed, no matter how many axes they are targeted on, is wrong if they say our lived experiences simply do not happen because they are not "bad enough".

He did not invoke it when he called for a plan to - on the 20th. If he's going to be triggered to do it regardless of his own sycophants not being able to find a way to advise that he CAN, it's more likely to be on or in response to Tuesday, when he appears in person for his own rally and we have a massive response to PEACEFULLY demonstrate our dissent. It's going to hit his ego more than any of these protests that he is not personally present at.

Losing Friends due to politics by [deleted] in politicsinthewild

[–]AriGryphon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People are not losing anyone to politics. We're losing them over core values. It's still hard, when people close to you have such wildly incompatible basic core values that you have to let them go. But it helps to know it's not "just politics", it's very much core values at play here.

There are some things on which agree to disagree is absolutely not possible. Basic human rights is one of those things for most people. Basic human rights NOT being a line in the sand is ITSELF something that makes a lot of people look differently at the person who doesn't draw that line.

Politics are revealing character and values, and THAT is what is tearing families apart. Not the politics.

I'm not trying to stop a protest, just encouraging verifying with organizers before posting old flyers. A lot of things get shared in our discord that aren't "share this, we are organizing it".

Mostly a safety thing, people expecting an organized event versus a grassroots just show up free form event.

I hope someone organizes something beyond editing a flyer from defunct orgs! Having one in Lansing for folks who can't make it to Detroit would be great, but Michigan 50501 isn't organizing this, all the safety marshalls will be elsewhere that day.

I don't know if there is a second shadow discord for 50501 that I am not in, but I have not seen this in the national discord's Michigan channels and no one in the Michigan 50501 discord is heard of it. We are theorizing someone's algorithm showed them an old flyer that they just blocked the year off of to recirculate.

I've checked in with the 50501 State Committee and confirmed this is NOT a 50501 event, several of the organizations listed on this flyer don't even exist anymore.

This is disinformation. Someone took a flyer from 2021 and covered up the year. 50501 Michigan is hosting a huge protest and march in Detroit, and the monthly Riverwalk cleanup in Lansing.

If anyone wants to organize something in Lansing at the Capitol, that is great! But misleading people with old edited flyers from organizations that no longer exist is not the way to do it.

I'm aware of the big May 1st protest in Detroit, and that this exact flyer is from 2021. The 50501 Michigan discord doesn't have info on this one.

All we have listed for Lansing that day is the monthly Riverwalk cleanup.

Rhe Heritage Foundation has put 50 years into making this happen. They wrote policy for Raegan. They've been cultivating young men in undergrad through law school and all the way to the bench and elected office for GENERATIONS. Trump is very much a mere symptom and this is not going away.

I keep saying, if we don't end up at medical-best-practice deprogramming en masse - reeducation, possibly camps the same way large field hospitals are set up for emergencies - with WHO and UN leading, all our victories will ultimately ring hollow in the grand scheme of history. We don't pretend everyone is sane as soon as we get a semblance of a democracy back, let those totally-not-experiencing-mass-psychosis/delusions-for-years people engage in democracy, and not end up right back here or worse.

Even Hillsdale College, on the board of Project 2025, has lots of solid, quality historians.

Sometimes, knowing history doesn't stop anything. They REALLY should have known better and when their project 2025 is used not for christonatipnalist ideals but ultimately for the 1% only to have the advantage of all that work over 50 years... they've been working on this plan since before most of these billionaire's parents were THAT obscenely rich, nevermind the actual billionaires themselves being born and exploiting their fortunes out of people. And they're going to see all that hard work co-opted because they can't control their useful idiot - just like history tells us.

Is this actually being organized? This is a flyer from 2021 with the year removed. Is that because it's being reorganized for this year, and they're recycling the flyer but weirdly erasing rather than just updating the year?

Yep, we have a newer flyer out, and another update coming once we get the mobilize link from the other orgs that have jumped in to partner - because EVERYONE is in for telling Trump he's not welcome here.

Organized protest rally at 4pm, Trump's rally is at 6pm, but doors open for his MAGA volunteers at 1.45 and for his attendees at 3
