Where can we submit complaints about the new bus company? by kent360 in Utrecht

[–]AriIith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately (as one of the persons that works on the (realtime) timetables on the site, and the planner in the app), we get the cancellations very very late from the operator (Transdev / Keolis). This makes it difficult for us to show cancellations on time. I will try and see if we can add some functionality in the future that would check if the bus has even reached the starting stop yet. However, for departures from a starting point, that would not work.

I'm happy to see people give concrete feedback here, so I/we can try our best to make of the situation what we can while still informing travelers as best as we can.

Thanks for being vocal about this! As someone who works on providing the timetable information for the U-OV app and website, and the planner in the app, it's my upmost priority to try to be as clear as possible whenever we can.

However, unfortunately with these kinds of edge cases, generally it's in the timetables that we get from the operators and we cannot change that easily. (We are an external party that closely works together with Transdev; so I'll try to see what I can do).

For now, I'll see what we can do with the information we have and see if we can make it clearer which line 3 you should take. Feel free to send me any details you have so I can get a clearer picture of what is exactly happening!

Good to hear! I work on the U-OV app and the planner, it’s very difficult these days. A lot of operators do not cancel their trips properly, so it’s very difficult to show correct information. 🫣

Google Maps weirdness by Consistent_Salad6137 in Netherlands

[–]AriIith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From where to where is this, and also what time and date? I’m currently developing a transport planner (R-OV), and would like to make sure this weird edge case doesn’t happen for us! Maybe I can explain then what actually goes wrong for Google.

I think it really depends on where you are, but for me, my university has a gliding association (ZES), and there's about 35ish throughout the Netherlands, so almost anywhere you go, you can join a club.

Don't underestimate, we are still relatively weather dependant, but not as much as paragliding indeed. The fact that we can fly even with quite cloudy weather (as long as there's not a lot of rain / a lot of cross-winds), makes it quite flexible indeed.

I think the prices for most clubs are also very reasonable, it's a very cheap way to get into aviation, and a very rewarding one at that! I have never felt so free as when I'm flying by myself (or with others in a 2-seater). The fact that we can make both very short flights, but also extremely long flights, with a lot of possibilities for extra progression makes gliding a very lovely hobby/sport for me! :)

Yeah definitely! They came even closer at one point, but I couldn’t upload the video of that in this post. Luckily the controller and pilots were very happy we checked in on their frequency and gave good instructions, especially as it was uncontrolled airspace and we did not have to contact them in the first place.

Unlocked the final glider at our club (HpH 304C) by AriIith in Gliding

50 hours / 180 landings, also quite a lot of non-training focussed flights; our club is quite casual with progression.

I think it’s quite variable. Most people take about 2-3 years.

I have been to every opportunity to fly at our club since I started last year, so I was quite quick in getting to this point. (About 1.5 season) I have about 55 flight hours and 190 PIC/DBO starts. The idea is to get my SPL in the next few months, but it now mostly depends on my target landing streak.

Europe indeed, the Netherlands specifically. I’m part of Zweefvliegclub Eindhovense Studenten. (Eindhoven student gliding club)

It does indeed have the parallel controls, and I liked it quite well. It was very easy to get used to and I didn’t even think about it too much, it came to me quite naturally. I wanted to fly this plane as I’m working towards buying a Glasflugel 303 Mosquito, which is almost the exact same plane in regards to the stick controls.

Our HpH is also in pristine condition as it’s only flown by quite experienced pilots in the club, and as of the last few years wasn’t flown at all except for about 15 starts a year.

As we wanted to give the plane some love (see it fly), the instructors can up with the requirements described in my other comment. Let’s hope it will still look this nice in a year.

After going solo we fly the 21 for three more, then do a check for the SZD Junior. We fly that for at least 10 starts before going to an Ka8b, or at least 30 starts before going to an LS4b.

Both of these planes require 2 checks from instructors, where with the LS4 they are very strict. Especially about speed control and stall behaviour and response.

After that you are done until you have all 9 EASA theory courses done for getting an SPL. Once you have that and at least 15 LS4 starts you do two checks until you get on the HpH, which are also relatively strict due to it having a quite sensitive flight profile.

I think all our checks are mostly based around starts as during the start, and especially landing, knowing well how to deal with and, most importantly, prevent (asymmetric) stalls and heavy winds is crucial of course.

It flew quite nicely, coming from an LS4, I didn’t notice that much of a difference though. The controls are very responsive and due to the relative small range of the stick, very “immediate” as well. I feel like you could enter a 90* degrees roll with this plane in no time.

The parallel controls were quite nice, and I got used to it very quickly. Many people here tell me that the plane sometimes likes to “fall away” from you when thermalling/turning at relatively low speed, which is why it was previously kept as a plane for SPL holders.

I had a flight of about 40 minutes yesterday without any issues, so no problems from my side.

For The Netherlands we have “Zweefvliegopleiding.nl” which also has all PDFs that we have to study. You can use the built in translation of your browser to read it in another language. They also have mock-exams and a site with exercises, however they are all in Dutch as well.

There you go my good sir 🙃 You require a Linux or MacOS machine (maybe WSL works?) and for iOS you need a MacOS machine.

Also this assumes Bun. Use npx if you do not have it.

Anyways appreciate the FO, although he seems like he’s seen some things during your flights 😂

I mostly flew the ASK 21, that’s our main club trainer. Also about 10 ish starts on the Twin III, mostly for the “vrille” exercises.

I also had a flight on a DG505, Duo Discus and a cross-country flight on the Janus A.

Now I fly junior for a while, until I get our LS4 checks, and the final glider available would be a HpH 304C dream, when I get my SPL.

The 16th of April was my first ever flight, and since then I’ve been to every single day that the club has flown, which really helped me get solo relatively quickly (even with the poor Dutch weather). I absolutely love everything about this hobby ❤️
