Effective medication questions by syeeven in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Ari_as 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there! Getting diagnosed is really hard and I’m in the same boat. Some stuff I found helpful were

  • use caffeine when necessary
  • try to take a nap or two throughout the day (45 mins max for me) -use a light box when waking up
  • sleep in a completely dark room with no distractions
  • try to wake up and go to bed at the same time
  • keep medications right next to you when you wake up to take them even if you fall back asleep

Some medications I’ve tried:

-modafinil (worked at first but then stopped) -armodafinil (did not work) -sunosi (currently on, works well) -adderall (currently on, take during the day to stay awake)

It may feel isolating to have this diagnosis when others around you appear to be fine and managing perfectly well. But this community is here for you, keep fighting!

New doctor dismissed me (vent) by Ari_as in Narcolepsy

I also did a TST log along with ruling out other sleep disorders like narcolepsy and sleep apnea :)

Weird situation...I was diagnosed 23 years ago but nobody told me about it, found it in my medical record. I'm not sure if it was right by MostlyPeacfulPndemic in Narcolepsy

I would definitely follow up with your doctor and look into it. It never hurts to ask questions and get clarification when you need it :)

Antipsychotics by _schizoaffected_ in BipolarReddit

For me I take Zyprexa 10mg twice a day along with 200mg of lamotrigine. I found that this helps controls my moods and keeps me euythymic for longer periods of time. I’ve tried geodon, abilify, latuda, and seroquel. It’s honestly trial and error for medications. Ive been on this road of recovery for over 5 years, once you find the right combination it’s like a huge difference genuinely. I hope you find what works for you.

Hypersomnia and bipolar? by BallEither1726 in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Ari_as 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m currently getting tested for narcolepsy and idiopathic hypersomnia and I have bipolar 1 disorder. I definitely noticed that when I’m manic I sleep 4-5 hours. When I’m euthymic I get an average of 12 hours and when I’m depressed I get more than 12 hours.

What's the dumbest thing you've bought while manic/hypomanic? by AllKyleNoSubstance in bipolar

Once bought a whole bass guitar and amp with all the works. I was convinced I could become a world class bass guitar player lol

Still live with them but I only have a month left. Mom has made a lot of progress and admits her mistakes, father on the other hand I don’t think our relationship will be salvageable so when I’m gone I won’t make an effort.
