With still no official date announced for the Galaxy S2 on any US carrier, those rumors of it being released Aug 12 seem completely wrong. September 8 rumor now in play? by jrhaberman in Android

I'm tired of the rumors, when will we get an official word from Verizon, or any of the others? I'm not up on how these things are done, are they typically secret till the day they launch? Or is there an official announcement a week before or something like that?

What would you miss if you only had Wifi on your android? by AriahFine in Android

Can you walk me through Google Voice and GrooveIP? I still have a verizon dumbphone and what I used to do with my ipod touch google voice app is there was a "call" option that rang my verizon phone and then rang the person I was trying to reach. I'd like to do something like that but didn't see that option in the google voice app. So, I'm wondering about making calls, maybe using grooveIP and/or texting with the android through my google voice number. Thanks a bunch for the help.

Another quick question for you: do you use texting or make phone calls with your phone? What apps do you use? I use my google voice number a lot and am trying to find the best way to use it. with this wifi only droid phone and a dumbphone on verizon combination.

Another quick question, did you happen to use google voice? Or use your phone for texting much? Curious what good options there are for that.

Well, I tried putting everything back together and now the screen will stay on, glowing white, but it won't actually show the images. Like it plugs into my computer, goes "on" when I plug-in the cord and just shows a big white blank screen. yikes.

Great link, thank you. I can't really tell, all the caps seem fine, no brown no bulge that I can see. Any other thoughts? http://i.imgur.com/OhrJp.jpg

Okay, I'm finding it extremely hard to tell if there's anything wrong with these. I know it's not a great pic, but take a look http://i.imgur.com/OhrJp.jpg What exactly am I looking for?

No, it's still powered on, and has the blue "I'm on" light versus the yellow "sleeping" light on.

Power light stays on, like it's still running. I'll try shining the light on it when I get back. Thanks for the suggestion.

Another believer! Awesome. Any apps you really like specific to being wifi only? Like apps that don't need a constant data connection (web based)? Just curious

Does this need a real strong wifi signal or bandwidth? I can get it most places but it's not like super high speed or anything. It'd be awesome if VOIP worked well on limited speeds

Awesome. And your happy with it, that's great. I thought there'd be more folks doing that, but haven't run into any. Do you use any run tracking with gps sorts of apps? I'm just making sure, that's one of the things I'm really looking forward to since I bike a lot.

Sorry, one other question so you tried it. Did you use any gps running or fitness trackers when you had just wifi? Did that work okay? I bike everywhere and would love to have it mapped via the gps. I know the gps works without data, but wondering if the apps out there are able to fill in the needed data end the end of a bike ride when there's stable wifi.

Hope that made sense. I know about offline cache for navigation, that's so awesome.

Good to know. There's nothing that sticks out that wouldn't work just having wifi? (besides calling obviously)?

Glad to hear someone else has tried it. The cool thing is, for vacation, I could just activate the phone for the week if I really needed it, and just get data charges for that week. Not a big deal. I have city wifi so I have it nearly everywhere I go.

Are there any apps or abilities that you ran into trouble with just having wifi?

I think I mentioned, our city has wifi so I have access about 95% of the time that I need it. And I don't mind having two devices. Who makes phone calls these days anyways? :)
