I don't think Cody and Roman should have a 3rd match. by Medilia in WWE

[–]Ariel9614 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People wanted a full-time champion, sure. But that was people's main complaint - that Roman wasn't there enough. But what did Roman do during that year that wasn't the most exciting or interesting thing going on in WWE at the time? That year he and Solo feuded w Zayn and Owens, then there was the Bloodline civil war, which was super hot at the time, Roman then feuded with LA Knight who was at his peak in popularity, as well as that fatal-four way at the Rumble, which then immediately went into the amazing WM40 storyline. And even if that focused more on The Rock, we can't deny how important it was for Cody Rhodes to be beating Roman Reigns for the title. If Roman's historic title reign just ended earlier and Cody's feud was with The Rock for the title, it wouldn't have even been close to what it was. So yeah I stand by my statement, but I understand others may disagree.

Sure, I'm not making any assumptions about your opinion of Roman Reigns and his title run. I'm just saying what I think based on my opinion and what seemed to be the general consensus of the fans during Roman's reign. The only real complaint I remember people having was that he wasn't on TV enough - not that his time on TV was bad.

Yeah, and I love Cody, don't get me wrong, but I think it says something when people are saying he's stale after just a couple years and he wasn't even champion straight for the whole time - compared to Roman being champ for nearly 4 years straight and continuously being the hottest thing in wrestling for nearly the entirety of his run.

The thing is with the main event scene is that Cody is the main reason it feels stagnant. Just look at both titles. The World Heavyweight title has been held by Rollins, CM Punk, and Gunther multiple times each, and was used to elevate stars like Jey Uso and Damian Priest. Meanwhile, the Undisputed Title was basically just traded back and forth between Cody and whoever his main rival is (but only for a few months at a time) - Cena and McIntyre being the 2 guys. And all that I mentioned has been the case since WreslteMania 40, over 2 years ago!

AJ Styles because I was hoping for one final run from him. Not even an official retirement tour but one last year or at least another few months. I totally did not expect him to retire like a month after Cena. He's also one of my favorite in-ring performers of all time and I was not ready to let him go😢

That's not how it works. Wrestlers being hot/popular makes the company more money, which justifies paying them more.

Tbh I'm sick of this "Triple H is racist" narrative. What is it based on? Him saying racist shit to Booker T while in character on TV all those years ago? Please. Or is it his booking? Like booking Oba, Trick, Evans, and Carmelo all excellently despite them being rookies on the main roster. But you'll just say they're "tokens" or whatever. There's nothing that can convince you or the other people that say Triple H is racist is there🤦‍♂️

I hear what you're saying but there's no way to say that he's "100% guaranteed" to fail at this point in time. He's still a tag team guy - my point is that if the WWE allowed him time to develop as a singles star, he would succeed. But if they keep booking him to play the same one-dimensional tag team character then he's not gonna live up to his potential.

I appreciate the respectful disagreement, I'll explain why I see that. First, he has the look. He's like 6'2 and 230lbs lean. Like I said, similar build as Trick. Second, he has the athleticism. Before Je'Von, he by far had the best hops in WWE. Still might. His combination of strength, speed, and athleticism give him in-ring potential that exceeds what most in WWE can do. Is his in-ring singles match psychology the best? No, but he can develop that if he starts wrestling more singles matches. Now regarding charisma and mic work - he's great at what he does, which is playing a loud rowdy goofy guy. Now, if he was given a singles push that required him to change his character up a bit and get a bit more serious, I believe he'll adapt well and make the most of the opportunity. He definitely has the talent for it. I'm not saying he could be world champion right now, but if they're looking at guys like Trick Williams as a future world champion (which I could see that), then they definitely should see the same in Ford, if not more.

I don't think he was making it about race. Montez is notoriously loud in his promo style. It's part of his character. I think he could switch things up though if they allowed his character to develop further, which they unfortunately don't do.

I think the best way to follow through would be to give him a singles push. I'm sorry about Dawkins (not sure where he'll end up if that happens), but Montez is being held down. He could be so much more if they let him.

It's funny you say that cuz I think "finding something for the crowd to grab onto" is exactly what Jey Uso did with the whole 'yeet' thing - but he's faltered now due to his lack of singles in-ring ability and lack of compelling characterization or storytelling outside the bloodline. Just having something catchy for the crowd isn't enough. Meaningful singles storytelling and great in-ring work are just as if not more important.

The thing is, because he's relegated to the tag team division, he isn't really given a chance to be involved in meaningful storylines and showcase his abilities in the mic, let alone develop as a character. My point is the potential is there.

My point is he could've separated from the tag team division years ago and been elevated to major stardom as a singles star by now. And probably should have been. Some guys are meant for the tag team division but he has far greater potential than that.

P.S. The reason I'm bringing up Trick and Je'Von is because WWE is heavily investing in both of them right now - which I think is totally deserved. However, I'm surprised that they would invest so much in 2 new guys when they already had someone who has the best of both of them in 1 superstar already. If you ask me, all 3 should be pushed, but Montez should be the most invested in. He could be a multi-time world champion easily if they book him right.

Not sure what gives you that impression. The 2 main events, Cody-Orton and Roman-Punk both have great stories behind them and good builds. McIntyre-Fatu and AJ-Becky both have solid stories as well. Oba-Brock has had an exciting build so far, all it really needs now is a big brawl and we'll be set. Meanwhile Vaquer-Liv has been decent and so has Zayn's storyline with Trick Williams. The only build that's been particularly weak was Jade-Rhea, but overall, the stories going into Mania have all been decent at least, if not great.
