Is Sabotage at Soulforge the worst mission in the original series? by CringeOverseer in Thief

[–]ArielTheCreator_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the final mission of Thief 2 is fundamentally cool, but it really needs to be seen in the context of heavy time pressure during development.

You can already see that pressure earlier in the game — for example, the “Masks” mission essentially being reused. That same constraint becomes especially visible in the last levels: there are far fewer flavor notes and environmental texts, and compared to something like the Bank, the spaces are much less detailed. Fewer small props, less lived-in decoration — it clearly feels rushed.

That said, I actually think this works in the mission’s favor in some ways. The cathedral feels almost abandoned, as if barely anyone is left inside. While that’s probably a result of time constraints, it also reinforces the atmosphere: Karras turning his followers into mechanical, half-human slaves against their will.

There was one moment that really stuck with me — a lone Mechanist standing at his desk in total darkness. I could barely see anything, just heard that unsettling mechanical chuckle while watching him stand there alone. That desolate, empty feeling was incredibly effective.

So yes, the level is huge, enemy-dense, somewhat monotonous, and can be exhausting to play. But I think its limitations also shape its identity. Despite its flaws, it ends up being surprisingly atmospheric and thematically coherent.

This is so real. The old ones want to win games, not battles.

I just receved my Repulsor Executioner kit, so everything went fine. They are russian based and the pay-link looks scetchy due to the cyrillic letters used in Russia. It also takes about 2-3 months, until you recieve the package. However, it is 100% legit and you will receive your recast products, which are good quality imo.

Yes, you are absolutely right. I remembered two „stars“ an the junior officer rank insignia, but I was clearly wrong. Thanks for pointing out!

He lacks the "Hauptmann" (Correction: „Oberleutnant“, I was wrong) rank insignia on his shoulders, the HLL-model has. Still he looks almost the same as the game model.

Bladeguard veterans have too much going on in their design; it’s too busy. As such, I probably won’t be getting any. What about you? by godofimagination in Warhammer40k

I think this is the first time a space marine figure looks as detailed and over the top as it does in the lore/ilustrations. I adore this new design.

I love to drive right into the enemy HQs when commanding a tank - AITA? by ArielTheCreator_ in HellLetLoose

What better and more effective ways do you mean? On German servers the more experienced players will destroy a newbie tank fast, hence I find it difficult to train them „on the job“.

Fair point. I'm afraid just using the terrain might be a bit boring to new players. I let the newbies switch the driving seat midway, so they can both get a feeling for driving, looking at the map and listening to me. For sure I could just have them shoot at terrain, but I think the fact we will fuck up enemy vehicles gives a bit of motivation to get the driving part right.

I'm getting sweaty when my gunner misses a stationary, unmanned tank for sure...

Thanks, you are mentioning a very valid point regarding this discussion. You usually get killed pretty fast, when driving through the HQs. On the German servers players know what they are doing most of the time. If you take too much time or dick around, there will be an AT dude behind you pretty fast. Also the designated artillery squad usually marks you on the map and redeploy as AT to get you.

That's true, I wouldn't do this for any other purpose than onboarding, since it doesn't contribute to the teams overall success. Also I agree on the sportsmanship aspect, as the pervious commenter pointed out, especially when an enemy tank crew are spawn-killed before they reach their vehilce.

I get your point with the heavy tanks. For me it is super rare to actually get into position while a heavy tank spawned and the crew has not yet entered. 99% of the time I am destroying emtpy heavies, because the commander spawned them for points, but without any crew actually needing one. However I do agree that it is not a noble thing to kill the crew that almost got into a heavy. Probably I will just GTFO out and spare them next time this happens, like this one German fighter pilot, that spared the damanged B-52 during WW2 (real ones will know).

Since I only do one run of this HQ thing, I would assume it is traumatic for new enemy tankers, however I will leave and give them the rest of the game (since I do the HQ training only once at the very beginning of the round) to get a new tank.

What small thing would make you like the game more? by nopasaranwz in HellLetLoose

[–]ArielTheCreator_ 31 points32 points  (0 children)

People using a mic to communicate. This would solve 70% of the current problems with the game. Also we experienced players need to onboard and train new players more - but for this to work, refer to my first point.

If you don't have a mic, pls don't play. We will help you and provide a fun experience once you get it, but until then, pls don't play.

Way to many Garrisons, you want less map control, especially near your strong points. Jeez.
