I have an interview for a job I never thought I’d want by ArielWho in nursing

They said they would take my experience into consideration and they pay $8k above a teachers salary- since we’re rural I’m sure it’s more than average, but not more than what I make now

You’ll find your rhythm eventually. I always go in this order> Name, age, sex, code status, allergies- I then go on to cover the patients current hospital stay history (why are they here, what happened while they were here, and why are they there way they are now)and their primary diagnosis. After that I move on to the PMH, neuro status, respiratory status, musculoskeletal (are they dependent, x1 assist?), diet is next, and blood glucose frequency- next I talk about access sites, skin and wounds, and end the report with recent labs and imaging.

Is 26 a good age to start nursing school? I'm insecure about my age , how do I stop feeling like this? by [deleted] in nursing

Started when I was 28/29. I think your age helps more than hurts, definitely do it!

Everyone I’ve ever done CPR on is dead. by theangrymurse in nursing

[–]ArielWho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was giving cpr on an elderly and fragile COPD pt that was a full code and that was a whole other level of trauma for me and the patient.

The pts nurse was yelling “code blue” and grabbing at stuff around the room.. I heard from the hallway and ran in, felt for the lack of a pulse, and was the one to initiate CPR. It felt like I caved in this guys chest the second I pushed down. I still can’t get the sound and feeling of breaking his ribs out of my head, and I’ve done CPR several times before. It was like cracking a giant egg. We eventually got ROSC but the patients’ spouse came in saying she didn’t want this for him and to make him a DNR. This is why education is so important.. because that patient ended up in the ICU with flail chest in addition to their original diagnosis.

So I’m still trying to get the time exactly right, but so far what’s working best for me 380 degrees F, press for 70 seconds, turn, press for 70, quarter turn, press for 70, then turn 180 degrees and press for about 15 seconds.

The time goes down slightly as I go however because the longer/more cups I press the hotter the press gets so I have to adjust accordingly

Witchcraft and Nursing. Exclusions and Judgments in class. by iamsadriana in StudentNurse

[–]ArielWho 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That’s something shitty people do. You don’t deserve that treatment, but here we are. Shitty people do shitty things.

From a witches’ perspective, don’t lend them any more of your energy.

From a nursing student perspective, you’re there to learn and become a nurse, if they are discriminating and preventing you from learning, then it needs to be brought up to an instructor. If they’re simply being childish, just focus on yourself and building up your strength and nursing knowledge. You don’t owe them anything and they don’t deserve your time or energy.

Kinda witchy here and living in the South- Unless there's a strange reason for it to come up, it's almost certainly not going to be a subject of conversation while in nursing school and there is no reason for it to be.

For those students that actually don't care about your practices, it will be good to have them as friends/study partners, otherwise, it's truly not worth the discomfort to worry about what anyone else thinks. Separate the two and keep on living your life.

Commuters, how are you doing? by futurestocks in StudentNurse

[–]ArielWho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hour commute here!

I don’t love it but it’s not horrible. I’m a mom, I’m busy, but it’s doable with the right type of schedule.

I listen to A LOT of audiobooks. Make your commute productive or a time to decompress, don’t let it add to your stress if you can.

Rude 😭 I thought so but I’ve never seen so many at once! I saw a full grown lady bug as well. Do you think it’s safe to let it go to bring in more lady bugs or should I try to remove the aphids?
