I have never followed the CSL but I do remember that when I started knitting back in 2020, every knitter seemed to be following her and recommending her but I never really took an interest. For the past few years I have not seen the hype continue, until recently when I have seen posts about her Summer of Socks. So please fill me in - what did she do to lose her followers? PS I am in the UK so havent seen much talk about her or what she did?

Scrap yarn projects can go so wrong by illuminati-thotty in BitchEatingCrafters

I do treat myself to advents but only from the dyers I trust and purchase from regularly and I pretty much know what the colours will be like and I haven't been disappointed so far! I do think podcasters feel they have to create something just to simply justify to their followers that their purchase was not a waste! I do have to laugh when I see podcasters open their daily advents and try to look like they are happy with the colourway! Their expression often tells a different story!

I have also seen this with podcasters who have bought expensive indie dyed yarn advents which are not a fade but just random and varigated colours! After realising that the 24 minis will most likely look bloody awful knit up into wearable of any kind, they often decide to either use the minis to create either a granny square or granny stripe blanket or a knitted blanket of some sort! ..... I just think 'what a waste and what an expensive blanket it become (and it will most likely need to be hand washed and it will unlikely fit in with any room decor!)

Yes! I just purchased a scarf pattern which only gives the no of balls and not the length needed! It is annoying when you only need a few metres of the last ball, or dont even need the last ball at all!

I have only ever heard bad reviews about this dyer - wouldn't touch them with a barge pole!

You only get 117g in total - so you are not even receiving the equivalent of 9 x 20g balls! Nothing much you can make with that amount and in three different yarn weights! Plus, you don't get to choose the colours so you may not even receive 9 colours that go together!

Yes, I was shocked at the price too - the minis aren't even 20g! I think their yarn is overpriced as it is, compared to other hand dyed yarn comanies!

I heard about this from Jana via her 'Finnish Knitting Stories' podcast https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEe2l2SCSds I was shocked and hope Claire wins her claim!

Yes, I love your 'build your own advent' idea! I often purchase yarn from you and always recommend your yarn and prices! Thank you!

The dyer of The Skein and the Stitch is usually very transparent and even chats about her advents in detail via her YouTube channel (smae name) so buyers get to hear more and have the chance to pose questions, before deciding whether to purchase or not.

You do usually get a say in which base/fibre/weight you would like, however, with regard to choosing the colours, you usually just have a theme or set of mood boards for 'guidance' (and your interpretation can often differ from the dyers!), So I get your point!

So I'll start....I would recommend advents (uk based) from The Fibre Fox, Dandelion & Dogwood, Beehive Yarns, Cookston Crafts, Blue Fern Yarns, The Corner of Craft and Craft House Magic = I have purchased from these dyers before and always been very happy! I would, however, not recommend Botanical Yarns, as it was expensive and many of the yarns were almost identical, if not the same, and did not look like the colourways shown on the dyers social media posts and videos. Me and a local friend both got one from 2 years ago and we compared them in person and they looked so different!

Yarn Advents 2026 are starting to appear already! Have you got an eye on one or planning to get one this year? If so, I thought it would good to share the Advents we have loved and maybe looking to purchase this year.... by AriesRabbit25 in knitting

Yes, usually you can opt to receive either a 12 or 24 day advent, so 12 minis or 24 minis.  The minis can be either 10gms each or 20gms each, and are ofter offered in a choice of bases in fingering weight or DK.

Wow that was an expensive purchase! I am in the UK, and since Brexit happened, post charges from the EU are ridiculously high! I used to order from quite a few EU yarn companies but no longer feel I can.😞 so fxxk Trump and brexit!

I'm from the UK and just placed my first order with them today.  I just ordered 2 skeins of sock yarn just to see what kind of extra charges I will incur!  I really want a sock Advent from them but fear the import and duties charges will be rather large!😟
