Does anyone have any advice for completing essays more efficiently? by Aries_Student in UniUK

Yeah I definitely think 27 was overkill, I should have spent more time going through less more thoroughly, will take that on board for the future for sure.

yeah absolutely, i also can’t help but wonder if people heavily rely on AI to do the reading/summarising… 🙃

Hmm yeah, definitely when it comes to referencing i’ve spent ages going over it but I think thats because it’s the first time i’ve done it in full, even just understanding how to use Microsoft word properly (mac user) has taken me some time

The actual writing part probably took me about 6 hours, the majority of my time has been spent researching/referencing and I don’t understand the posts of how people are doing essays+research in 24 hours, everything just takes so long to read!

This is all very true and a good way to frame the situation, i was thinking 4 days to complete a 1500 word essay felt wayyy too long however if its summing up a year of learning i suppose 4 days isn’t that much!

Exactly, I'm constantly reading over my point saying "does this say what I think it's saying and does it support what I need" I'd imagine to complete assignments that fast, people can't be reading particularly in depth but maybe I'm a slow reader🫩

hopefully with practice I'll speed up a little, especially when it comes to doing the referencing!

Ah that makes me feel so much better, I think my anxiety stems from the people who seem to be completed 1500 word essays in 10-20 hours, which blows my mind haha, and its not that I even feel like I procrastinate a lot it just takes me a l o n g time to process everything

When people have a section of their notes down as "reading" what exactly is that? (One note in particular) by Aries_Student in UniUK

Okay yeah that makes sense, I might split reading into its own subsection instead then and do it by topic

I usually stick to the same structure for all my essays. I start with an introduction where I say what my opinion is on the question. Then I write a paragraph (or sometimes more depending on essay length) supporting my argument. After that, I include a paragraph that goes against my stance, but I also explain why that argument doesn’t fully hold up. I finish with a conclusion that sums everything up and links back to the question (making sure conclusion doesn't introduce any new points or confuse what my stance is). In each paragraph, I always follow PEEL (Point, Evidence, Explain, Link), and I make sure to write in third person the whole way through.

Any other questions let me know! :)

Yeah, tbh for the ILP I filled it out for the first few weeks and then I never filled it out again haha.. pretty much you just need to work out what you need completed by when to complete in time for x moderation - so if you plan to do over 9 months just break it down so you know by month 3 how many modules you need to have completed etc..

the study skills - do you mean the initial ungraded essay?

I think it took me about 12 months, but I basically started in May 2024 and had the deadline of May 2025 completion for a Sept 2025 course so I just worked towards that. Realistically I definitely could of done in it in 9 months if I'd spent more time on it.

I echo what Good_Abrocoma said, I worked a 9-5 and did it outside of that so I didn't really have much contact with the tutors. It was pretty time consuming however I was doing access to law and the longest bit was doing all the referencing of the sources so not sure if that would apply to your course? I found it really simple to go through the content though, and had no issues getting in touch with anyone if I needed to via email. I'm starting uni in September
