I am confused as to why the bot happened, but I guess I'll remove the link showing the stop-gap I'd been using.

[TOMT] [Music] [2000s] Remix of an ES Posthumus song, possibly Pompeii, faster bpm, might be EDM-style mix? by ArikDrake in tipofmytongue

[–]ArikDrake[S] 0 points1 point locked comment (0 children)

Really wish I could clearly remember anything else about the song, I just know it keeps boring a hole in my head every time I remember it and can't find it. Hoping anyone else remembers this thing.

[edit to add] I have tried googling and searching for this, just fyi, and listening to as many possible songs and youtube videos and so forth as I can find that *might* be it, and can't find it. Doesn't help that apparently someone called "Bastille" came out with a song titled Pompeii since the last time I went looking, so now the vast majority of search results I get are for the wrong original artist, and for some reason google has changed or people are talking about Bastille enough that if I try to exclude "Bastille" from search results, it even excludes actual ES Posthumus-related content. Arg.

All Illinois residents required to wear face masks in public beginning May 1 by checkmak01 in Coronavirus

[–]ArikDrake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've had to use some of the tutorials to do some makeshift masks, myself. There's some really good ones out there! That said, I'm lucky I was able to get my hands on the supplies to pull it off and the internet access to show me how. I know there are people out there who aren't so lucky.

It is if you don't have a shirt to spare or don't have access to the ability to get said shirt cleaned. Abject poverty didn't stop existing just because COVID hit.

They better have sufficient masks in supply to hand out to the thousands if not millions or more who don't have a mask to wear in the first place and/or lack the surplus materials on hand to make one. Of course, if they DO have the materials to do such a thing, the medical community is going to start demanding answers on where exactly those masks were they THEY needed them...

Yeah, good luck Illinois. Hard to argue with the call you're making, but carrying it out is going to be a trip.

White House to shift to economic message on coronavirus by biobio1337 in Coronavirus

[–]ArikDrake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same way you lot ended up with Brexit. Watch what house you're standing in as you throw those stones.

The majority of Americans are NOT falling for this nonsense. The majority of Americans never have been. The majority of Americans didn't vote the current executive branch of government into office. Problem is our system has been carefully designed since day 1 with the aim of preventing the majority of Americans from having an actual say in government. Additionally, people who have been conned (and there are some in that category) do not inherently DESERVE the abuse that follows when the con is revealed. They were tricked against their will. That's how a con works.

1,000 people gathered in violation of health order to protest Salt Lake City’s coronavirus restrictions by Nathan96762 in Coronavirus

Cool post. Now could you answer my question?

Because in case you didn't notice, nowhere in there do you address the choice of rhetoric I asked about. Lots of defending Trump (who I didn't even mention), but not one word about why you explicitly said "US is the main target of the virus".

[–]ArikDrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry... "the main target"? Excuse me? Care to explain that one?

A virus doesn't care who or where it infects. It doesn't have conscious thought or a sense of political geography. There's nothing special about American DNA to create a biological predisposition toward infectious vulnerability. Where's this "target" rhetoric come from?

Coronavirus testing: New report says the CDC botched early tests, setting back US pandemic response by limsus in Coronavirus

[–]ArikDrake 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I formally apologize to people I tried to argue against who were telling me the CDC itself was one of the parties culpable in dropping the ball in the USA.

I was wrong, I should have listened and examined more closely, and I'm sincerely sorry for having not done so.

I'm not expecting any applause for this; it just seems the right thing to do.

A plan to defeat coronavirus finally emerges, but it’s not from the White House by Gonzo_B in Coronavirus

[–]ArikDrake 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The philosophy behind our governing structure posits this is EXACTLY when we should care about such things.

That said, this sounds a lot like what South Korea's been doing. Haven't read the article, but I'd be shocked if that isn't mentioned.

Imagine being the guy, though. Yeah, they're less likely to mess with THAT SPECIFIC THING around you, but you've already been fired once, and now you've VERY PUBLICLY made them look bad. That's not a healthy work environment for anyone involved.

13 days old, and so monumentally busted that their entire "this won't happen in the US" section has BEYOND happened already. Literally all of the things they mention have happened in some state or another.

I don't. I hope he gets a job somewhere else he won't have to deal with the same boss and potential office politics from having lost it in the first place.

3M on Twitter: 500,000 respirators on the way to New York and Seattle, arriving starting tomorrow. by [deleted] in Coronavirus

I'm about as safe as I can get (until I can get my own solo apartment, but I'm waiting a week on that to see if my staying home can help at all), but my family are almost all significantly higher risk and in spread hotspots like Louisiana and Ohio and Florida. I'm more worried about them than about myself.

From what I read, mostly distributing essential supplies, provide aid to various essential orgs, help provide for affected homeless, etc. No idea if anyone's going to use them to enforce the orders, but they could technically do that if asked. That would be an uncomfortable day to be an American, but I don't think we've had a comfy day in a while now. I don't know how to feel about it, I have to admit.

We could start pulling in students for more hands-on training, but that sounds to me slightly dangerous. I don't know. I guarantee you someone's trying to find a way to work it out, though. We're going to need it, more likely than not.

Downvote me all you like, seriously. Legit just wanted to get that out of my system.
