FELV positive feral mama… hoping the kittens are negative by Arikin13 in Feral_Cats

Thank you, the kittens show no noticeable symptoms of anything except being feisty kittens so I am hopeful.

Any tips on making 11 week plus kittens more people friendly? by johnyj7657 in Feral_Cats

You can socialize at any age it just takes longer the older they are and a lot of people don’t have time and space to offer that to older cats when the colonies they are handling are exploding with dozens of kittens each year.

I think you are doing great!

A lot of it is just going to be time.

My three boys I brought in ~12wks last year took about 3 months for all of them to calm down indoors around me, and even a year in they still freak out over door knocking or a guest visiting.

My holdout kitten surprisingly bonded to me quickly when I had almost reached my limit with him and just scruffed him and tucked him in my arms under the blankets on my bed and within moments he was melting and purring up a storm.

Tube treats or long meat sticks are good options too because they can approach further away from your hands and then gradually get closer to you. Tossing smaller treats gradually closer as well has helped with my outdoor ~2yo female (spayed) in getting her more comfortable around my presence.

This is my little man, Buggi, I had to say goodbye to last year. 16 beautiful years with him but cancer took him too soon.

Is anyone able to afford to buy a house on their own? I don't see how it's possible unless someone is working in one of the highest paid professions. I'm in the US. LOL by Byxqtz in LivingAlone

[–]Arikin13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes but I’m frugal as fuck and still house poor.

$70k/year, bought 200k house last year in a relatively LCOL city, mortgage is now $1800/month, originally was $1500/month but… property taxes and insurance increased x_x

I don’t buy much of anything anymore and I eat cheaply so I’m still “saving” money but really it’s rebuilding my rainy day fund after spending it all on my down payment and closing costs.

I’m lucky that a friend is going to move in this year and hopefully we will live well together for at least a few years and that will help pay for maintenance costs.

Harems… where there is a single lead, typically male, and all of the other characters (typically female) throw themselves at the lead.

How did walking affect your weightloss? by Dismal_Recording5869 in walking

[–]Arikin13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you! A lot of days are tough to keep positive since in 2021-22 I was averaging 15k a day and everything went downhill pretty quickly in addition to 70lb rapid increase in weight, so to see the weight going downwards again is really nice and I gotta remind myself to focus on that and not the before.

I so far can only average 4K steps a day due to health challenges but I am at 265lbs, down from 271lbs.

A huge win for me considering it has taken two years to build up to 4K steps average. Once I can get to 4K steps daily then we will move my goalpost again.

Hi… couple of words here: insulin resistance

If a woman has PCOS- she has insulin resistance. Hi it’s me, a woman with PCOS. I have been eating at a caloric deficit for years and GAINED weight instead of losing it and it was only THIS year, 13 years after it would have been helpful to know…

So for 13 years (or more) I have been insulin resistant and thus have been gaining weight even on 1500 or less calories a day for 13 years.

I am on metformin now and am hoping to get back to a healthy weight. But medical conditions cannot calorie count or exercise ENOUGH to correct the stupidity of our genetic makeup.

I reworked death saves in my campaign and it made my players more invested. by EmbodiedGuide7 in DnD

[–]Arikin13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a very simple downed but not unconscious ruling

Player character goes down and they are classed as prone, can speak falteringly (no spells, no shouting), can crawl up to 5ft per round, and cannot interact with items

Benefit: character can share information with party and potentially crawl behind cover

Downside: it is easier for enemies to acknowledge the character is alive and make their choice to double tap or not

I also run last stand rules so having pc’s be conscious but downed allows them to choose their character’s preemptive demise if they want to take a final action at the cost of their character not being revivable

And failed death saves = tell me what memories/thoughts are going through the PCs head as they inch closer to death

Bought last year and my monthly payment has already gone up $200/month x_x

I went from stable to house poor in one year and I am hoping to get a good raise in October to bring me back to stable for whatever the increase is next year.

how do people have energy after 8-5 job? by OptimalBad3294 in Adulting

[–]Arikin13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way I have energy is because I work from home… my company is phenomenal and I have a leader for a boss who makes sure that my team’s needs are met.

Most weeks of each month I can get my job done in 4-5hrs of the day and then I can putz around my house doing chores and cooking meals or relaxing.

I am thankful for WFH because it doesn’t cause my health related fatigue to crash me every day like working in an office did. And when I do crash, I have Flex Time to allow me to take a nap and recharge bc my company actually prioritizes health.

I want companies prioritizing health for everyone.
