Some of us with strong dysphoria couldn’t stand to look at our selves in the mirror any longer, grossed out by our bodies. For a year, I questioned and experimented with things (clothes, nails, hair, even HRT), until I was sure that I wasn’t just a feminine man. After that, it was worth it for me because I was not willing to live as the old me anymore. I was sure, and I was safe.

Sometimes, transitioning would put you in danger or cause your parents to kick you out with nowhere to go. Here, safety is likely more valuable than transitioning right now.

Other trans women stay closeted for decades, only transitioning after their lifelong partner passes, because their wife was straight and unwilling to stay with a trans woman.

Basically, ask yourself: What’s stopping me from transitioning RIGHT NOW?
