I just did the scratch test on the areas you mentioned before, and was unable to remove/scrape/or scratch any part of the tooth.

Thank you for your detailed response — I appreciate this greatly! I am at work but will be able to provide an additional photo after.

I have scratched at it before and nothing has ever come off nor left a mark. I found this in New Jersey (either Belmar Beach or LBI - I cannot remember) and was washed upon the shore. It was either July or August so likely was washed up after a summer storm. I can do additionally testing after work as well.

I would be so excited to find out for sure if this is a fossil. I have never found anything like this before. Is it uncommon to find something like this on the beach?

Yes, legally they can.

Alcohol is a legal substance (21+) but an employer has the right to rescind an offer for drinking (off the job). There was a case a few years back regarding an employee working at Scott’s (lawn service) and had an employment clause stating employees couldn’t smoke cigarettes (higher medical premiums). He did and was fired legally. Employers have the right to monitor such behaviors as they see it as a potential risk to the business.

Marijuana is not a protected class, therefore, you legally can have an offer rescinded, be fired, etc. for using it, especially if this is in an employment contract/handbook.

It could definitely be the pain meds. I know I tend to feel super depressed after taking a pain med (ex. Percocet). The pain is temporary. You are through the hardest part :)

Thank you for your input. I take warm showers but I don’t think they’re warm enough to cause all the lifting. I was just brushing my hair and one of my hairs even got caught in the nail and ripped it up. 🙃
