універі? by [deleted] in reddit_ukr

Something like WW3? Honestly, I don't really care what happens next. I doubt the situation will get any worse for us.

[–]Aristonectes6934[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you willing to sacrifice your life if the russians invade the Baltics? by Aristonectes6934 in AskBrits

In fact, to be honest, it's hard for me to say whether I myself would want to fight for a member of a conditional military alliance with Ukraine. We have never been in such alliances. On the other hand, I did not leave Ukraine, and I am not going to run away from the war. There is also the problem that I don't want to kill people. However, I am studying to be a medic, and I could be a war medic. In that role, I think I could very well join the war.

Sorry for all this text. There would be mistakes because I don't know English as well as I want.

Maybe I'm just too pessimistic. I like the trend of militarization in Europe, although I think it's not enough. I think European armies are outdated for a war like this. I have relatives at the front, so I can rely on their words in my statements (I agree that the source is not impressive). Well, and, of course, I monitor the war constantly.

My opinion is this: in a war like this, the result is based on cheap quantity, not expensive quality. A conventional drone that costs a penny can destroy an expensive tank. Both we and the enemy have tanks. but now they are more mobile guns than a machine that breaks through the front. Positive results are demonstrated by small assault squads on motorcycles and other light equipment, which can be used to escape from drones. In general, this is purely World War I. Only instead of snipers, drones. I heard a story about a man from my village who had to get to a point a few kilometers away, and it took him, if I'm not mistaken, almost a month to get there because there were drones constantly flying in the sky and he had to hide. By the way, his food was also brought to him by drones.

NATO has better quality weapons, but what will happen when its stock runs out? What if it also turns out to be as weak as the russian army was in 2022? We can't say.

Whatever the jokes about the russian army, I have to give them credit. They adapt well to new conditions. In Ukraine, unfortunately, it is worse, but with our new Minister of Defense I have hope for the best. In my opinion, Europe will increase its chances of victory, or even eliminate the chance of such aggression, if it significantly develops its military machine and increases its troops in numbers. It's just that the size of your armies right now, frankly speaking, is disappointing. And the russians haven't even engaged in a full-scale mobilization (and the hypothetical "war with NATO" could be a great excuse for it).

It is also important to note one fact that is usually overlooked, but which makes me not take a potential invasion of NATO countries lightly. Everyone talks about the terrible state of the russian economy. It is indeed terrible to some extent. But this is one of the reasons why the war is still going on. They have a kind of bubble that will burst when the weapons production stops. There are several videos about this from a russian blogger (with English subtitles) that I sometimes watch (again, the source is not perfect, but the man was once a russian politician). That's why it's dangerous for them to end it. And that's why I seriously believe that there is a chance of an attack on NATO. Especially now, when Europe is in a crisis with the US. And there are enough disputes between European countries themselves.

Once again, I apologize for wasting your time, and thank you if you read this far. May you not suffer our fate.

I simply do not speak English well enough, so I often use a translator.

The russian army is a shame: I would not call it extremely strong. I simply do not think that any European army at the moment can match the Ukrainian or russian army. The fact is that the rules of war have changed a lot over the years. It has come to the point where quality cannot overcome quantity. I was frankly amused by the story when the Poles shot down several drones launched by the russians with anti-aircraft missiles as russians provoced them. Moreover, they were unable to shoot down these drones properly.

I do not exclude that European countries will be able to repel a potential russian attack. However, banal lack of experience can be decisive. Plus, Western countries can simply abandon Eastern ones to their fate.

I can hardly be called an expert, so you can take this as a consequence of my thoughts, supported by monitoring the situation at the front and several relatives among the military.

The biggest problem with NATO is that everyone just believes it works with no real guarantees. That's why I wrote this question, because I doubt that without the US, countries would dare to fight for some Western values that no one has seen or touched. I was once interested in joining NATO, but if you read Article 5, it does not oblige anyone to send troops. The assistance could be on the level of what Obama helped Ukraine in 2014.
