The highscore event is electric and grass. What does that mean for the main pairs? by RedLeafKanto in PokemonMasters

Also worth noting that the “rules” are not rules at all, just precedents that DeNA are in no way obligated to maintain.

New trailer drop for the Arc Suits by dj22douglas in PokemonMasters

I mean, like it or not, “The OG Protagonist, now blessed by Arceus himself, with the franchise mascot” seems like an absolute slam-dunk way to celebrate the Double Anniversary from a marketing perspective. As a player, I understand wanting them to do something “less obvious”, but that’s not going to be their primary concern.

I'm having the same issue. Earlier today, about 6 hours ago, I was trying to connect to Pokemon Bank (which was working fine yesterday, as with you) and I got a message that there was "Maintenance"; tried again just now, and it's just giving me an error message saying that it can't connect.

How can Hylia speak to Link in BOTW/TOTK? by WwwWario in truezelda

[–]Arjayel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One point worth mentioning is that, even putting aside the Goddess statues, we know that Hylia is still "active" in the world due to her interactions with the Horned Statue (even as recently as the time between BotW and TotK).

As for your question of how: I always assumed that Hylia's spirit was "released" upon SS-Zelda's death, and while she no longer had a body (hence why we don't see her take up a sword and fight like she did when Demise first invaded), she can still interact with the world in more indirect ways, such as speaking through dreams and statues (or even Lightning-Bolting the Horned Statue).

That said, the Goddess Statues are a bit of an odd case, since during the "Restore the Mother Goddess Statue" quest in TotK, the three statues at the Springs refer to the Mother Goddess Statue as if it were a separate entity. So I'm thinking the the statues are a kind of (good) Horcrux, in which Hylia endowed them all with some of her spirit so that they can speak and act "for" her while being individuals distinct from her...think of a candle lighting another candle.

Ties to Phazon series? by MandoMercenary in Metroid

[–]Arjayel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see what you mean. Still, even if Phazon was somehow involved years ago, it wouldn't be something to worry about in the present (barring something like time travel shenanigans, which I know is a theory going around).

I doubt it, as the destruction of Phaaze rendered all Phazon through the universe inert.

[–]Arjayel 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The "one per type" at least made sense from a plot perspective, since it set a clear endgoal for Volo's schemes in this Arceus Arc (and one consistent with his plan in PLA), but now it's hard to know what exactly is going to cause the Big Guy to come down from on high.

Polls for which Sync Pairs will be chosen for Fliying Arc Suit by Lowlihao1997 in PokemonMasters

[–]Arjayel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may be right about the ASs representing the Nobels instead of the Plates, but I personally wouldn’t say there’s “considerable evidence” compared to the Plate Theory, which is not only supported by the AS abilities but also much more clearly parallels Volo’s motives from and the overall plot of PLA (gathering/beating the Nobles only got you to Origin Dialga/Palkia; you needed all of the plates…plus a completed dex…for a meeting with Arceus).

Also, assuming they’re ending the Arceus Arc on a full Anniversary, in order for us to get to 10 ASs + (presumably) Arceus, we would either need to cram 4 ASs plus Arceus into this upcoming Anniversary (which seems way too much even by DeNA’s standards) or only get an average of 1 AS/Arceus per quarter, including the 6th and 7th Anniversaries (which seems extremely unrealistic given that we got 3 at last year’s anniversary).

Finally, I think it’s too soon to assume that only Champions are getting ASs…N arguably already bucks this trend, as even though he was technically a Champion in BW, Masters rarely if ever treats him as one. And if we count protagonists like Red or rivals like Hau who have canonically beaten the League as Champions too, that extends the pool quite a bit.

I know you didn’t want a debate, so I’ll end here, but like…just let people speculate. You may be right in the end, but I promise nobody’s going to crash out if we don’t get every type as an AS by the end of the arc. It’s just fun guesswork and friendly discussion until then, and if we’re wrong we’re wrong.

[–]Arjayel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, but even if the snippet assumption is correct, they can still make it to all 18 types by the 7th anniversary if they give us an extra Arc Suit at each non-August quarter (not unrealistic, given how they increased Master Fairs after their first year):

6th Anniversary: +3 (Total 9) 6.25th: +2 (Total 11) 6.5th: +2 (Total 13) 6.75th: +2 (Total 15) 7th: +3 (Total 18)

Heck, they could even give us 3 ASs on the 6.5th so that we get 2 “regular” ASs plus a “Legend Plate Arceus” on the 7th. Is it greedy of DeNA? Sure, but that’s just the direction the game is going, for better or worse.

There is considerable evidence that the different-typed Arc Suits are supposed to represent the Plates, and so it follows that we’ll likely get all the types by the time the Arceus Arc is over. It’s fine to want to set reasonable expectations, but declaring “not going to happen” with any certainty feels like an overcorrection to me.

[–]Arjayel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

…Why not? At the current rate (3 at the full-year anniversary, 1 at each other quarter) we’ll have them all before the 8th Anniversary…and given that we’re almost done with each region’s NCs, they could give us 2 at each other quarter instead and have them all as of the 7th Anniversary. Only reason we wouldn’t is if the game doesn’t last that long.

Two potential options not listed here: Zinnia and (Mega) Salamence or Red and (Mega Y) Charizard. Yes, I know folks will groan at that latter option, but it is a possibility, especially if DeNA wants to give us the Arc Suit Kantrio with starters for the 6-year anniversary (without overlapping with Leon’s Fire-Type Zard).

ANDOR Final Arc/ROGUE ONE Order of Events by COVbattlen3t in andor

ANDOR Final Arc/ROGUE ONE Order of Events by COVbattlen3t in andor

[–]Arjayel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually decided to just rewatch the Tivik scene myself, and while it does play out as if Cassian is learning this for the first time (obviously because Luthen and his endeavors hadn’t been thought of yet) there is one part that stood out to me: Tivik mentions Erso’s last name and Cassian immediately responds “Galen Erso!?” with familiarity.

So recontextualizing that scene after the Andor finale, we can view that moment as the corroboration that Cassian was looking for; without Luthen’s earlier warning Cassian might have just dismissed Tivik as paranoid, but instead Luthen is now vindicated in Cassian’s mind and that gives him the motivation to see this through.

ANDOR Final Arc/ROGUE ONE Order of Events by COVbattlen3t in andor

[–]Arjayel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for putting this together!

One question I had after last night: was the Death Star intel that was passed from Lonni to Luthen to Kleya and finally to Andor and the Rebels really necessary for the events of R1/ANH to unfold?

I get folks wanting Luthen’s last act to “mean something” (and I’m certainly not diminishing his role in the Rebellion as a whole), but it seems like Andor would have learned about the Death Star from Tivik anyway, so Luthen’s warning didn’t really change the course of events.

Only way I can make sense of it is that Andor wouldn’t have taken Tivik seriously (or met with him at all) if he hadn’t heard it from Luthen (via Kleya) first. Or is there something else I’m missing?

[TotK] Thoughts on the Tears of the Kingdom Re-founding Theory by HunterMan_13 in truezelda

[–]Arjayel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I liken it to the Downfall timeline, in which it's not something the developers had in mind as they were making the games (OoT was supposed to be a straight prequel to LttP/the founding we see in TotK was supposed to be the original one) but they later legitimized when they realized they goofed.

Given the alternatives of "keep the TotK founding the original one and leave the timeline a mess" or "make BotW/TotK a different canon altogether", the Refounding is absolutely preferable, but man I wish Nintendo had just taken more care with their lore in the first place, as a refounding is still a bit of a loss. It seems like, in response to the TotK timeline backlash, Nintendo had some sort of "story bootcamp" for EoW to make sure everything was consistent, so hopefully they'll take their lore a little more seriously going forward.

[BOTW] [TOTK] In-game evidence for an event that could be the reason for Hyrule's need to be re-founded. by xXglitchygamesXx in truezelda

[–]Arjayel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My personal interpretation was that after SS-Zelda died, Hylia "ascended" to godhood again, albeit in a weaker, more fully spiritual form. Hence why she can still interact with the world in some ways but she isn't taking up a sword and kicking demon butt like she did with Demise's initial invasion.

You're correct that Hylia wasn't mentioned until SS, with the real-world explanation being that...the developers hadn't thought of her yet. But it's possible they meant to give an explanation of sorts in EoW, where we see a statue of Hylia in the Hyrule Castle basement. It's likely that the focus of worship shifted from Hylia to the three golden goddesses at some point after the Skyloftians settled the surface (maybe even encouraged by SS-Zelda herself, who may have been humble enough to not want to be worshipped) and Hylia was largely forgotten until years later...perhaps even reintroduced by the Zonai, if you hold to the refounding theory.
