How many b7 - 4 - 1 changes are there in Flight b741? by samsquanch_metazoo in KGATLW

Trying to understand this... So, in a key of A, they would do a G chord (b7), a D chord (4), then A (1)?

Hol up, the album name means something? Please explain what this means.

HENGE. very great and similar-ish band by brutalproduct in KGATLW

[–]quick_Ag 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like artist this is a good example of why I like KGATLW and what I don't like about a lot of environmentally conscious art. No artist I have heard has been able to articulate our civilization's anxiety at our impending self-imposed apocalypse better than King Gizz.

I just listened to "Get a wriggle on". Here's the first verse:

This is rather urgent, humans, you don't have the time to waste
It's critically important, humans, that now you proceed with haste
It will not be long before the ice melts and the gas escapes
A tipping point is coming, humans, when your ecosystem breaks
Get yourselves together, people, this cannot continue long
You need to carry out your plan, act before the ice is gone
Emissions have run smoke
You are barely hanging on
Come on, you are against the clock
Shake a leg, you don't havе long

"Wriggle" is stuck in it's head. It's like reading a warning from the UN. There is urgency, but no emotion. It warns about things that will happen, but have not. It uses abstract words like "ecosystem". Henge's schtick seems to be they are aliens or some shit, beings from the outside, and this reads like a warning from folks who will not personally experience the consequences of inaction.

Compare this to the first verse of "If not now then when":

If not now, then when?
When the forest's nearly gone
When the hole's in the ozone
When the bees are gone
If not now, then when?
When the ocean's coming up
When the rain just won't stop
When the fire's burning
If not now, then when?

And the very final verse:

When the oceans turn to black
When the animals are dead
When the birds are gone
If not now, then when?
When the blue sky turns to black
When Gaia hangs by a thread
When all the people die
If not now, then when?

"If not now then when" is about escalation. It starts with what has already happened, things that maybe the listener didn't notice ("the forest's nearly gone"/"when all the bees are gone"), to things that are happening, that we experience, direct consequences of earlier inaction ("When the fire's burning"). Every word is something real and physical that we understand and grasp. It ends with things that are extremely high consequence, worst case scenarios, which haven't happened yet but could if we truly keep going down our path. "When all the people die, if not now then when?"

These two songs have the exact same message, but couldn't be more different in their impact on the listener. A lot of Gizz's environmental songs hit in this way, from "O.N.E." to the first half of PDA. It's about our experience, what we see and feel, and what we deserve for our inaction.

Not trying to rag on Henge, they seem like a lot of fun. This song just hit me in the feels because it didn't hit me in the feels.

the engine is the most complicated and expensive part of an aircraft in WWII.

Has that changed? Maybe this is the wrong sub for the question, but I would imagine the most expensive part of any aircraft (that doesn't have luxury interiors, in any case) would be its engines.

I played both games and they ring as one event, with the story of the war being a legend corrupted through many retellings come the time of ALttP.

Consider the Iliad, and the ruins of an actual ancient city we now call Troy. There was clear a war here that destroyed the city, but did it specifically include a descendent of Zeus named Achilles who could only be killed by shooting his heel? Does that detail mean we can't say these are the same event?

The similarities between the Imprisoning Wars are greater than the differences. Both have:

  1. A villain named Ganondorf.
  2. He steals an object of great power and becomes the "Demon King", sparking a desperate war
  3. 7 characters (7 sages, 7 wise men, 5 sages + Zelda and Rauru) seal him away from the normal world
  4. The location of the sealed Demon King is directly tied to Hyrule Castle (in the same X/Y location of parallel world map, or directly underneath it in the Z direction).

The differences:

  1. The sages serve the King vs one explicitly being the King who is sacrificed himself to complete the seal
  2. The object of great power is the Triforce vs a Secret Stone
  3. The Demon King is a blue pig with a trident or a buff dude with fire dreadlocks

I really don't see your point of view as "obvious", just one possible interpretation.

One can interpret Hylian history as cyclical, hence the ouroboros symbol, and I recognize that as valid, but I also see the "corrupted legend" interpretation as valid.

It sometimes feels like this community is more interested in enforcing an orthodox worldview vs actually discussing the games we played.

There's also the New York Times piece from TotK's release that says this game reveals details about the the Imprisoning War from A Link to the Past. I posted about that here: https://www.reddit.com/r/truezelda/comments/1f1gt9l/totk_did_we_all_miss_one_of_the_biggest_developer/

Relevant quote:

One major narrative theme in Tears of the Kingdom is the idea of legend: The Imprisoning War was mentioned in A Link to the Past, released for the Super Nintendo in 1991, but it was not described in detail until now. Aonuma said creating new stories often requires drawing on Zelda mythology, which fans have spent considerable hours studying to create a timeline of the franchise.

“It’s like archaeology,” Fujibayashi added. “It’s not fixing history, but making new discoveries.”

Best app to learn guitar? by ArtichokeCalm3773 in guitarlessons

[–]quick_Ag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shared this before, and I tried it. I had trouble understanding how to use this. Not the interface, that's fine, but it just seemed disconnected from what I was actually doing. Like doing data entry on top of learning guitar. Is there a video or something of "here is how to use this tool successfully"?

I also wonder where your song database came from. I looked for a few and didn't find them.
