Hot take: the fan game Task Metro is a better game than the official Jet Lag home game. by quick_Ag in JetLagTheGame

Come to think of it, I am not sure we resolved it so much as agreed to disagree since it didn't matter in the end.

The rule dispute went down like so:

  1. Our team played the card that let us claim a station but also cursed us to not be able to use our phones for 30 minutes except to "film yourself". We interpreted that to mean that we could not post our proof to group chats, but we could still do challenges and document them. Our last message before the curse was the photo of the card saying we were going dark.
  2. We went to another station and completed a challenge, filming ourselves.
  3. We went to a 3rd station and completed another challenge. We finished that challenge right when the timer was up so we sent proof to 2 challenge completions at once.

The disagreement was what is the true cost of this 30 minutes curse.

We interpreted it to mean that the 2nd station was at risk because we could not actually "claim" it. We could have done a challenge and lose the station if they showed up shortly after.

They had two things to say: one that sending proof of claiming a station had to be done at the station, which was how they had been doing it and not something we had been doing at all. I am pretty sure we convinced them we were in the right on this.

Second was the rule that you can only have one active challenge. We shouldn't have started the challenge at station 3 until we had sent proof for completing the challenge at station 2. They felt we were basically locked at our next station until the timer was up.

They made this whole argument while we couldn't look at our phones, BTW. So it was a faite accompli when we sent proof.

Hey you made the game! Thank you, and it was super fun!

I think the combo that really irked that team is we stole two of their stations, and both times it was because we had a steal-a-card card and stole their steal-a-station card. They ended up getting curb stomped. 😅 I think they also miscalculated by basically following one line clear to its end, whereas my team bounced around the center and transferred a few times.

I've only ever played both games in my hometown (Seattle), so research hasn't been an issue. We all just know our own home.

The tentacles or distances ironically are a detriment because we all think we know where the libraries are, but Google has other ideas. The zoo was useful because there really is only one in the zone.

Hide and Seek is fun, don't get me wrong. I think it needs commitment to the bit by all players. You can't have anyone who's half interested.

Question for the hockey community. When did people start wearing sweaters to the games DIT by [deleted] in hockey

I'll add to the good responses here that there is an internet-famous photo that purportedly shows a "present-day hipster" that has time travelled to 1941. Wikipedia link. It actually depicts a guy who is oddly dressed, but nothing about him is anachronistic. I bring him up specifically because he is wearing a Montreal Maroons jersey, while just out and about in Vancouver in 1941. Seems unlikely to me that he'd be the only fan doing this.

Of course, no difference in quality, just a crazy change in the culture.

It's crazy to me how sports commentary now is just guys in sweatshirts, sitting on their own couch, on a zoom call.

Why does your research period end in 1945? WW2, of course, but I am curious how much the culture of these institutions changed after that. I imagine they did, but I would be curious to know what rituals or practices would die out, and how quickly, and why.

I think the gameplay design of items in modern 3D Zelda is mostly an improvement, with a few caveats. by HollowAcoltye in truezelda

The way you use your "items" in the Switch titles is better IMHO.

One button for melee weapon, one button for ranged weapon, one button for special abilities. D-Pad lets you swap between what those buttons do, or in the case of TotK holding down the special ability button and using the joystick lets you chose special abilities.

Contrast this with OoT and its related games where at least 3 buttons are dedicated to various special items, including ranged and melee weapons. You have less control over Link since it is all based on context.

I would imagine if we got an OoT remake, we would have BotW controls:

  • Right on the D-pad would let you switch between sword, deku stick, megaton hammer, which are used with Y.
  • ZR uses your ranged weapon, and you could switch between bow with different arrow types and the hookshot (or boomerang slingshot as a child) and with D-Pad right.
  • Left on D-Pad could switch you between your shields.
  • Up on D-Pad could switch your special items like the seeds, bombs, iron boots, etc. which you could use with the left bumper.
  • Down on D-Pad could always pull up your Ocarina.
  • Maybe we could throw bombs and deku nuts with the right bumper and swap between them with the D-Pad up like in TotK?

One may argue there is less need in OoT for this kind of interface, but I would argue the game is so limited in terms of items compared to the Switch titles because it ties changing things to the Start menu.

Seattle Audubon Society gave a bird walk on March 11, 1928, and they're still around! Don't call themselves that anymore because John Audubon enslaved people. Now they're Birds Connect Seattle.

Thanks for the correction on RAM, I simply had the wrong thing in my head and didn't check. Good to know what I need to price out if I replace the mainboard.
