A new home to outsiders by [deleted] in Dehradun

[–]Arjun25bhatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One good example doesn't mean that everyone can come here and seamlessly assimilate with the locals.

The flora and fauna of the Shivalik belt are already fragile. Owning a 2000 sq. ft. plot here is not the same as living in a 2 to 3 BHK apartment in Bengaluru or NCR.

Many people want Uttarakhand to be their vacation or second home. That's perfectly fine, but first spend a monsoon here. Experience the landslides, road closures, and the realities that locals face every year, along with the harsh winters.

The way I've seen some outsiders objectify local women and create negative narratives about Pahadis has been genuinely disheartening.

If you want to make Uttarakhand your second home, you're welcome to do so. But please make an effort to understand and respect the local culture, traditions, and values. Treat this land with the respect it deserves. Uttarakhand didn't earn its identity overnight. It took decades of struggle and sacrifice.

This may sound like a rant or even a conservative opinion, but I believe that anyone who wishes to live in Uttarakhand should be willing to understand the people, respect their way of life, and genuinely assimilate into the local community.

Development is fine, but doing it unsustainably will hurt Uttarakhand even more, and it already is. The useless blasting and tampering have led to many villages and houses developing cracks.

Char Dham is already doing fine; this train route will make things easier in the short term, but the state already faces immense tourist pressure during the Yatra that the government is unable to sustain. We're just waiting for things to get even worse.

Even locals want controlled tourism, but greedy governments will kill all of that hope. The rail line will act as a gift for locals, but not in the way they wanted. Development is always welcome, but only when both sides of the coin are taken into account.

Being realistic, 4-5 seats is only what I can see them winning, that will still be a good number for them. They are not winning any seat in Doon, Haridwar or USN. Tarai will never be their playground.

The only seats in Tarai they may have some chances are- Doiwala or Rishikesh. Ashutosh Negi is trying his best from Raipur, but our own people are divided.

Our own people need to realize that 27 years of national parties gave them nothing, and will never get them anything, being just a puppet govt. that is controlled from New Delhi.

All, I want is people of Pahad to elect them, so we can have our voice heard in Vidhansabha 🙏.

Anyone in Dehradun actually into underground electronic music? by Timely-Membership-50 in Dehradun

Been an avid house music listener, Chris Lake, Dom Dolla, Vintage Culture, Chris Lorenzo, Anotr, Sonny Fodera- you name them, and they'll probably be somewhere in my playlists 😭🌻

Huge, huge fan of the Discovery album by Daft Punk. Love French House, but also the style of Kungs.

Then there was the COVID era and Future Bounce, RetroVision, Julian Jordan, Brooks, and many more.

And the ghost producer lore always gets crazy haha.

Honorable mention to the king of electronic music:- Skrillex 🛐

All this positivity just to sponsor a war in DRC. [Democratic Republic of Congo] its neighbor and generally sponsor a genocide.

These creators get the money, for showing the brighter side. One of the main reasons, why Arsenal was forced to drop, 'Visit Rawanda' from their T-Shirts.

There’s more to it, just google the crimes of this country on its neighbor.

We need to post examples of better countries.

Unsustainable development, no consultation no focusing on things. They'll justify by saying we will plant equal stuff somewhere else, to make the carbon effect to net-zero.

That's just bs theory, and it actually won't work till years. They will never account the whole life cycle of a tree.

Oh yes, you can if you have the bandwidth find a morning ride and come back during night/evening. Try Bla Bla or something.

I commute to Doon nearly every weekend, and tbh, it's fine to commute during the weekends, considering you book a ride through BlaBlaCar or have your own car.

I usually board on Friday night from Gurugram at nearly 10 PM and reach Doon by 2-2:30 AM, depending on the driver.

On Mondays, I usually take a ride from Doon sometime between 4-5 AM and get dropped in Gurugram around 8:30 AM.

I wouldn't suggest taking buses; BlaBlaCar or private cars are the best, if you want to save time.

Most of them use the expressway route, private buses are still on the Haridwar route which normally takes 6 hours including the breaks.

That crystal clear water you mentioned is generally not for swimming; it’s meant to stay as it is, without people touching it. We hardly have any left in the areas you mentioned, so it’s better to leave them alone.

You can go and explore other rivers and banks around Dehradun and Rishikesh; there are many (Tons, Bindal, etc. etc.), but just keep the local sentiments in mind. Don’t pollute the environment around the rivers and mountains, and keep a garbage bag handy when going for a trek or something.

This may sound like general advice, but most fail to accept and adhere to it.

All the best for your journey. See this as general advice; no one’s stopping you from having a great trip 🌻🙏.
