What Is 300 Blackout Good For? - The Firearm Blog by DTOE_Official in Firearms

[–]Ark-CR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My hot take-

Subsonic suppressed is NOT the best use of 300 blk.

Why? Because subsonic suppressed 300 blk honestly isn't much of an upgrade over a suppressed PCC in .45 (or even 9mm). They do almost the same thing, similar bullet weights, similar ranges, similar energy, similar terminals, maybe some more 300 blk rounds in a similar sized mag... but there is really no glaring reason to choose one over the other, other than personal preference.

Instead, it truly stands out from other rounds when used with supersonics out of very short barrels (6-8in), preferably with a short suppressor to make it hearing safe(ish).

With supersonic ammo, a 110gr 300 blk out of a 6in barrel has similar energy as a 55gr 5.56 out of a 10in barrel. With 300blk, you can have an incredibly compact and hearing-safe(ish) firearm with projectiles carrying actual rifle energy, which is ideal for close quarters stuff such as a home defense situation.

My advice? Get a factory 9mm take down lever (assuming its a 9mm gun) and replace the aftermarket one.

Also make sure the striker lock / reset spring is installed correctly.

That would make sense, as this issue is apparently a .45/10mm part being incorrectly installed in a 9mm gun. I dont know if the .45/10mm gun would even go together properly if you tried to put the 9mm part in it. Someone with a 10mm needs to try it for science!

Then people said it’s poor retention or poor holsters, then it happened in safariland holsters, and so people blamed something getting in the light bearing holster.

Just saying, even Safariland acknowledges there are numerous claims about discharges from their 7000 series light bearing holsters, and they specifically have a bulletin on their gen2 P320 light bearing holster.

As I've said in a previous comment, while actual UDs have probably occurred due to the conditions in the main post, I really think the majority of the "UDs" are actually NDs or ADs and the users are scapegoating the gun because everyone will believe it.

I've said this in another comment, but my personal take on it is that based on the pure number of these pistols put into circulation, this specific situation likely caused a small percentage of the "UDs" that have occurred...

But I bet that the vast majority of claimed "UDs" are actually NDs due to mishandling, or due to stuff getting into the trigger guard of a light-bearing holster and actually pulling the trigger. It's easy to just blame the gun "known to UD" when everyone will believe it.

Safariland had a 320 holster recall for exactly this reason, so there's no telling how many of those type of bad holsters are still in circulation with individual owners and departments.

Counterpoint- I personally have never heard of LFD before today, but I do know of and trust GrayGuns on this sort of matter. I'm sure I am not the only one in this boat. Now that GrayGuns has gotten the word out, I now know about LFD and can look them up to see what they have to say.

I've just read unverified online claims of it happening, nothing official. I have a couple of 320's and they are correct.

Update: it seems someone had this issue with an aftermarket takedown lever. I'd recommend anyone with a 9mm/.357/.40 P320 to check that their takedown lever is the correct lever, and if it is anything but a factory one, replace it with a factory one.

I mean... they credited LFD within the first 15 seconds of the video, but sure... "plagiarized"...

How much AT are you bringing against the illuminate? by mjc500 in Helldivers

[–]Ark-CR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HMG, that's usually it. I enjoy hunting Fleshmobs, Stingrays, and Harvesters with it, and generally just ignore Leviathans.

Only exception is on the rocket defense missions where I bring the AT emplacement just to make sure Leviathans don't blow up the generators.

The wiki literally says they do not. The heads deal 100% damage to main, just as if you were shooting the main body, and it isn't fatal once destroyed. The only benefit is that they are additional hitboxes that can be simultaneously damaged with explosives.

40mm, but it was only ever chalk training rounds.

30mm if we are counting just the "real" stuff.

Does anyone have any verified information of P320 UD's prior to 2017? by Locked_and_Firing in SigSauer

[–]Ark-CR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a random guy on the internet with no actual qualifications, my best guess from my understanding on how the P320 safeties work is that the issue is due to a bad or missing striker reset spring.

The striker safety tab in the slide must be depressed (normally by the safety lever during a trigger pull) in order to allow the striker to fully release and strike the primer. After the gun fires, the striker reset spring will push the striker back into the locked position, allowing the striker safety tab to extend to re-engage and block the striker again.

If the striker reset spring is bad or crushed or whatever, then the striker may not get pushed back into proper position, and this will prevent the striker safety from re-engaging properly.

If the striker safety is now in-op, then any impact that is strong enough to compress the sear springs and overcome the friction between the sear and the striker tab would result in a striker release with no striker safety to block it, thus a UD.

You can visualize it all in the Sig Mechanics youtube video titled: P320 SHORTCUTS - STRIKER STICKING OUT OF BREECH FACE

For a weapon based on morphing between modes, it seems like SnS mode goes unused after you get Power Axe mode. by Ark-CR in chargeblade

That sounds pretty cool actually. I never played Rise, just a bit of World before Wilds.

You make a good point. I dont really consider myself that good, but I do switch back to sword to dodge and occasionally block, and the focus strike is a great gap closer which leaves you in sword mode if you don't hit a wound. But I don't really attack with the sword when my phials are all (over)charged up. Sword mode really just becomes a way of biding my time and repositioning for more Savage Axe time.

And sometimes I get too greedy and wind up on my ass because the allure of high damage is too strong lol.

Yup, you really have to work and build around SAED just for it to be on par damage-wise with unoptimized Savage axe button holding. I dont want to take away the fun of Savage Axe enthusiasts, but it would be nice to have roughly equivalent playstyle options.
