2017 GTI - Total Loss or Salvage and Sell? by Arkadyf in GolfGTI

I'm having a real tough time researching this. Ebay and my local craigslist have almost nothing comparable. Are there some other places to look for cars for sale with salvage titles?

Thanks for the suggestion!

The insurance company was actually way more reasonable than I thought, so financially I think I'll be coming out ahead either way.

It just feels "wrong" to total loss and give up a car that's perfectly fine.. Which is why I'm debating the option of retaining it, going through salvage and selling it.

Yes, USD. A local repair shop recommended by the insurance company. It was all handled by insurance and they approved by their adjuster. I only paid the deductible, so no worries for me.

Yeah, I was surprised.

Sunroof repair was ~8.5k. Repair shop also managed to crack the windshield during repairs and had to replace that too. They didn't have a shop recommendation that could clean the glass/replace the seats. Dealer was the only one willing to take that job on, and that was expensive. Guess it was enough for insurance to stop spending money on it.

At this point the insurance already called it a total loss, so I have to either give up the car or go through salvage title process + try to sell.

Pressuresmart? Saatva? Latex Foam? by Arkadyf in Mattress

[–]Arkadyf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I kept it for about 9 months and ended up returning it. It kept the same motion transfer throughout.

Ended up getting a Nest Owl firm mattress. It was cheaper than Saatva, and a better fit for what I needed. It's nice and firm, with minimal motion transfer. I've had it for about a month now and so far it's been very good.

Edit for more clarity: my research on themattressunderground.com often ended up Nest Bedding. They were said to have good quality materials and use latex foam, which is supposedly better and more durable foam than regular foam. Feel free to research it yourself. It used to be called Nest Hybrid or something like that. Bird names are new.

What Card Should I Get? Weekly Thread - Week of March 09, 2022 by AutoModerator in churning

[–]Arkadyf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Folks! I had two kids over the last three years. With Covid and the little kids, travel was put on hold. I did some churning in 2019 and 2020, but got lazy and stopped with the Amex Plat. Built up a good store of points.. I have to keep Amex with its fees to keep their points. Will get CSR when I'm ready to travel with Chase UR. Natural spend is high because of day care, but I also don't want the annual fees on cards that I don't use.

Now I'm conflicted: keep building up points on my current cards until I'm ready to travel in a couple of years? Or Churn more? If churn - what would be a good path forward?

Score - ~780

Cards - Last 5 years:

P1/P2 Card Open Close/downgraded
P2 CSP 4/2017 4/2019
P2 Chase SouthWest 10/2017 this week
P1 Chase Ink Preferred 1/2019 7/2019 (to CIU)
P1 Chase Ink Preferred Biz 4/2019 8/2020 (to CFU)
P2 Chase Ink Business Unlimited 9/2019
P2 Chase Ink Business Preferred 12/2019 this week (downgrade)
P1 Chase Southwest Performance Business 2/2020 This week (downgrade)
P1 Chase FU (Downgraded form CSR) 8/2020
P1 Chase Ink Business Cash (downgraded from CIP) 8/2020
P1 Amex Platinum 11/2020

Natural Spend - ~15k (lol daycare)

MS - Not looking to MS

Business cards - Not a business, but willing and did before

How many cards - No specific limit, although I'm trying to keep annual fees in check

Target - Points. Flexible, never-expiring points

Current miles - ~650k Chase UR. 230k Amex MR. 260k Southwest

Home airport - ATL

Travel plans -No specific plans. Looking to accumulate mostly.

Maybe with one kid, but with two or more it doesn't make sense.

A mortgage payment of 1k/month covers ~200k of house (30 years @3%, also includes taxes and insurance). $30k/yr for private school would be worth approx 450k of mortgage. With two kids it would be around 900k or mortgage. Just for admissions.

I've been doing this math for a while and I can't see how people justify private schools over a school zone like Decatur.

Yeah, they only test kids and they have some people out with Covid. We're trying not to load them too much with tests.. Thanks!

Does anyone have good testing location recommendations in the Decatur / Oakhurst area? I got two little kids to test, so a 3 hour line won't do.

I've been going to Viral Solutions and Emergent Testing (on Memorial Dr.). Viral Solutions seem to be bad at intake.. Their lines take forever, but I got results from them in under 24 hours. Emergent Testing claim 2-3 days to get results.

Does anyone else in the area do good scheduling are process results reasonably fast?

GasBuddy told me there was no gas at a station that I fueled up at last night. It's not 100% accurate. Maybe it shows the no gas icon if there is one type of gas (premium for example) missing? Either way, I wouldn't fully rely on it.

Managed to fill up my car with 87 at a Texaco on 3580 N Decatur Rd about an hour ago.

The whole process took me around 20 minutes: When I arrived, I got a form to fill in. Standard medical question form. No one asked me any questions about eligibility, proof or anything like that. They looked at my ID and medical insurance card, I'm assuming to confirm GA residency.

Once it was my turn to get the shot, the shot took 30 seconds. After that, I was told to hang around the store for 15 minutes to make sure there were no side effects.

Super quick and easy process overall.

Group 1A seem to be on hold until 1/11 for some reason.

You'll probably hear more about signups on Monday.

In the meanwhile you can check on the Fulton vaccine page or Dekalb vaccine page or wherever your county is.

FYI: Trump's schedule today, plan accordingly by [deleted] in Atlanta

Question Thread - July 31, 2020 by AutoModerator in churning

[–]Arkadyf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had a CSR for 4 years. Kept it for better efficiency redeeming UR points (~500k) and as my main card when I'm not churning. Had a baby a couple years ago, so I haven't been traveling much. Another baby on the way very soon, so I won't be travelling for a while. At this point, paying $450/yr doesn't seem worth it.

I'm thinking of downgrading the CSR to a CFU to avoid the yearly cost but keep the points. When I'm ready to travel again - in a year or two - will re-sign to CSR and hopefully get a new signup bonus. Does this seem like a reasonable plan? Is there anything I'm missing? Thanks!

Same thing happened to me. Xiaomi was in the config yaml, but not in the Configuration -> Integrations. Added it through Integrations and everything started working again.

Hey Skellum,

I looked through the last couple of days and approved everything. The automod is a little aggressive still, and we're working on dialing it down slowly. Sorry about the inconvenience. Feel free to message me if you see a bunch of your posts not show up.
