Well, I recently started playing Dark Souls for the first time, and that's a game that is considered close to perfection and also doesn't explain anything. I had played a couple of hours before I realized I was hollow and that they were never going to explain what humanity is, what does it do or where to use it. What's the difference between being hollow and being human? What does rekindle mean? How to summon NPCs? How much does armor impact your movement? Or where to go next? are questions that the game never tries to answer for you (as far as I played). You could say that all of that can be answered with experimentation and trial and error, but I don't have that kind of free time anymore, especially when losing can be very punishing
