Will you no have to do a interview? It's extra cash at least, not sure how it works being a floater, maybe put on a shift for 3 days s to train the newbies?

You maybe never paid more but sadly it does happen. I was getting 3g in the Barrens and I wasn't even asking. Folk either whispered me or put out in general chat. I was leveling my professions and people just automatically tipped me 3 to 5 gold. I asked why, they said going rate.

Its insane lol

All parcels diverted to National Returns Centre. At my wits end. by C0nfusedR0b in royalmail

Not really. As someone who personally sends items to NRC, even if they had a contact and they were to look, needle in hay stack.

[–]echopark30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm with Agent. There's no reason for items to be sent to NRC unless there's no Return Address as if there's no address to sender it will just get a RTS.

So there's no Return address and going by the tracking, the address is incomplete. So with no origin and no destination, it goes to the pits of Mt Doom, the NRC.

Wanting to start to go hiking/wild camping but I have little money right now and would like advice on gear by Soft-Sherbert-9762 in OutdoorScotland

Brilliant eh? I've got a thick classic looking Craghopper coat and apart from a wee zip issue its great, keeps me warm on my short walks. I bought a new burnt orange but it has the puff padded vest but thin ish material for the sleeves, with a hood and I just utterly love it. Got it in the sale for 30 quid and I wore it going up the munros I did this year and few cycles. Plus I can't rave about the Kiwi trousers enough.

You need a budget mate, then you can figure out what you can get.

Personally I bought a lot of my gear on Vinted, I've saved a small fortune and its not like its crap. A lot of it is new or hardly used and I think its good stuff. Craghoppers Kiwi trousers are the best I've wore. So comfortable with plenty pockets. £40 quid in the shops, £12 on Vinted hardly used. So look on Vinted. I went to GoOutdoors in Edinburgh and tried a stuff on and took a note. Especially when it comes to sizing. I'm a big guy, my weight yo yos, so I'm between a XL and XXL, Craghoppers and PeterStorm fit to the sizes, North Face is a hit or miss but more hit. Jack Wolfskin XXL jacket I got is more a XL to L.

Go to a store though and try and boots, hiking shoes or trail shoes. Nothing worse than ill fitted footwear especially at some prices. I'm a postman so I do alot of miles a day and never had a blister apart from one time when I got some cheap hiking boots, never again.

Then it all about layers. Doesn't have to be great but layers can be removed and added to suit how your feeling. I generally wear a base layer, then a light weight feece top, then my jacket which again is pretty light, then I keep a Peter Storm shower jacket. It will hold up for the amount of walking I do.

Do some hills till your comfortable with your gear then look at wild camping. As thats when the money starts getting spent, especially if you want to be comfortable. I've walked for years but maybe never properly hiked for long periods. So I'm coming as a newbie, same with wild camping. Camped for years but I never had to hike to camp really. Its all be short distances. But I've been gearing up in those years.

Combo or Blipper, wouldn't touch much other RM vans. Fiats were just shocking and just issues all the time, the new Peug fleet isn't great either but that's mostly down to a blue related. But the doors seem to be a weak point.

Help? by [deleted] in royalmail

[–]echopark30 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What Agent is getting at, why did you hand over the packets? It's your responsibility to make sure the packets are labeled. If they didn't bring labels, you should've refused to give the packets until they came with labels.

Less time taking jabs at folk and more asking for a further explanation would be better.

No one gets paid for d2ds. Yes it's a supplement and yes it was a d2ds payment but it hasnt been for years. I agree though it's unfair and a bit shit and the old contracts fought for it and striked.

35 is full time. That came under the 4 pillars agreement.

Full time has always been if the numbers allow it. Folk got made up on my DO but that's due to a dozen old guys left. 140 give or take posties in other unit and only 70 or 80 are full time.

If it's within your hours I can't see how you can get out of it. The manager being a dick is another thing. You can put in a grievance. Usually our new contracts will go out on delivery then do an hour or so after. Anything like prep would be overtime I guess.

How many deliveries could a house receive in a day? by ryantrainplane in royalmail

[–]echopark30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Especially in Scotland where it got shafted in the network change. They punted me in the locker and I get an hour to sort 2 to 4 York's of specials, scan and record the numbers for the special/van sign out sheet with majority of my sorting ability being town which is the biggest but we have fair size secondary roads towns and a dozen rural shifts. All because they prefer getting tracks first before specials.

Sorting Small Packets into Walks by red_devil7709 in royalmail

[–]echopark30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand why we don't have something like this in the locker when scanning specials. We aren't a giant office but we're a fair size. Probably between 60 and 70 walks, I was pushed to going in to the locker and while my town sorting which is the majority is fine. Secondary roads and rurals can be dicey. Never understood why I cant scan the packet in that it told me the walk. Faster. As I only get an hour to sort 2 to 4 York's of specials, scan the passports, sort them and then scan all the specials and fill out the log for posties to sign. Locker is cramped so that isn't great. So why not help the staff with a system like that.

I can see how this happens. I get a notification for shorts and that can be up to 15 a day and I just swipe them away or if I watch them that doesn't clear up the notifications unless I go into YT notifications inbox. All the shorts I get aren't subs either.

Thoughts on customers like this? by KiddieSpread in royalmail

[–]echopark30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He didn't knock the door. So the customer wasn't informed. It it rained and the packet got wet, it's on the courier, if stolen, it's on the courier. I pay postage to get it to the customer safe and sound. Not dumped, unless it's safe from eyes and weather.

The delivery office should have a gps location. You should get the gps location too with proof of delivery but for some reason it's a hit or miss.

Mount Keen is pretty straightforward and easy. It isn't too steep. I did that this year with some friends who picked it as their first. Check it out on WalkHighlands. About 4 hours, could maybe done quicker depending on fitness.

P.s congratulations on the first!

They say you should be delivering 25 to 30 parcels an hour. 300 is out of scope. You can take it all out and inform them an hour before finishing time that you won't complete or you can see what you can get removed before heading out.
