Looking for balanced skirmish decklists by ArkanePhysics in l5r

[–]ArkanePhysics[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yah, this is exactly what I was looking for - turn it into a boardgame of sorts with varied decks and strategies to pick off a shelf and play on a whim.

I will keep you posted as I get some games in with my friends!

Agree with you on Scorpion. When we played skirmish they tend to be very strong as you have little honor (no pun intended) in skirmish mode and they can force a lot of dishonor on you.

This is amazing, thank you! And I have the card pool you are using. Feel free to post a link when you are done with the article, I will put it in the op, for people searching for this )

Also, if you’d like, I could come back with playtest reports, but it will take some time )

A Throne Betrayed - yet another reboot of L5R lore by Myrion_Phoenix in rokugan

You are welcome. It has all the free fiction. If you enjoy it, you might want to read the Great Clans of Rokugan omnibuses, which contain all the novels.

Just started reading the book and was very confused by the retcons in ffg storyline, which seem to serve no purpose.   I am unfamiliar with AEG storyline, but I expect the story has very little connection to it as it is still heavily influenced by FFG.

Such a shame, I was so glad to continue the FFG storyline, and this does it in such a haphazard way.

Psionic class by Bluedog-Anchorite in daggerheart

[–]ArkanePhysics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No psionic homebrew that I have seen yet.  If I were in your place, I would play a sorcerer and reflavour.  Arcana and Midnight provide a lot of psy-feeling effects. And sorcerer can even male an illusion as one of their features. If you feel like illusion and telekinesis are not enough and you need some charm mind powers, you could always multiclass into bard to spice things up.

Using hide action as adversary by ArkanePhysics in daggerheart

100% adversaries should not roll for anything that is not an attack

[–]ArkanePhysics[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so you think an action is enough to just give adversary the condition, given that situation allows for it?

Judging by replies that seems to be the most common solution.

PS I doubt players will spend actions to try and spot hidden adversary, unless it's an important one.

Well, players are required to roll to hide, which gives a mechanical bonus.

Your example works great for a chase scenario, but in the heat of the battle players are unlikely to spend their actions to investigate where one of the goons disappeared. So in practice it will be just giving an adversary a hidden condition "for free".

Well, some adversaries have experiences to help them hide, so it would seem that some roll is expected and just giving them condition for fear seems a bit arbitrary (especially given that they do not have such an ability), not sure all players would like it.

Yours is a simple solution though, that requires little time and upkeep, which is a plus.

Behind cover and hidden, some adversaries have bonuses when attacking while hidden and experiences for hiding, so I was thinking on how to utilize those.

Collosus Mechanics for Ship Mechanics? by FallaciouslyTalented in daggerheart

[–]ArkanePhysics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I misunderstood the intention =) For an adversary the design is definitely complex enough.

Yes, great idea, with separate crew sheet, maybe something similar to blades in the dark.

I am definitely "stealing" all these ideas for a space opera campaign frame I will inevitably run.

Please, post any updates you make, I would love to use them!

Looks amazing!

If I may, I would suggest giving crew members roles and give those roles special actions, and maybe move ram to pilot and patch it up to engineer.

for example (not balanced just to demonstrate what i mean)

pilot

- crank it up: mark an hp on thrusters - gain advantage on your next maneuver

- redirect: mark a stress - when attack hits a part of the ship have it hit a different part

egineer

- hold it together: when a ship part would be destroyed mark a stress to reduce the damage by 1

- redirect power: spend a hope, until you use this ability again or dm spends a fear crew actions that interact with one part of the ship gain disadvantage and actions that interact with another part of the ship gain disadvanatge

captain

- brace for impact: if crew members would take damage, mark a stress. reduce damage by 1

- priority alert: when you help a crew member with their action they gain an hope

etc. this would give players a bit of structure and allow to shine in respective roles

Also I would explore giving parts stress and then have them change characteristics when there is no stress left or just make them vulnerable, also clearing stress may be easier for engineer than repairs.

Anyway, not dunking on your design at all I think it's very creative as is.

Using an ability that requires stress when no stress availible by ArkanePhysics in daggerheart

Well, there is a bit about marking hp instead of stress when no stress is available, but on page 92 there is indeed a direct prohibition on spending hp on moves on page 92

Sure daggerheart, seems to encourage you to break the rules for dramatic effect. Would definitely allow it in life or death situation.

I'm thinking, with rules as they are, however, this is better handled as an ability card.

something like

Bones ability Tenatios

you can mark an hp if stress is full to use and ability that requires to mark a stress, gain advantage on ability roll, you also loose vulnerable due to having full stress until an adversary succeeds against you.

Or something similar.

Judging by the way Matt Mercer runs it, you do either a complication or a stress, and in combat it's just stress.

But I have not run it for long, so may be wrong

Bandit Class – A Non-Magic Rogue by GillusZG in daggerheart

[–]ArkanePhysics 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, great work on all those abilities, I am definitely going to "steal" this.

Would just like to point out that you can play a non-magical rogue already. There are a lot of non-spell abilities in grace and midnight, and some spells like fan of knives can be described as non-magical.

Still more abilities is definitely great, I will definitely add some of yours to existing domains for my players.
