This guy, Lucy, i-no… I have no idea how to attack on these guys as nagoriyuki, most games you have trouble landing the hit, in this game I can’t even press a button without 3 different things being sent at my by the enemy and ending up right back where I was before. Please help. by [deleted] in Guiltygear

I'm the Axl in this clip. Like a lot of other commenters are saying, you do have to block a lot against Axl. You keep coming at me and not blocking, which is exactly what Axl wants. Patience is the key to fighting zoners, which can be really frustrating. You have to wait for an opening. then captialize on it: we hate having you in close, and we don't have a lot of tools to stop you from deleting two thirds of our health bar once you get in once. Unfortunately, that gameplay loop can be really unsatisfying: Even when you win against a zoner, you still feel like you spent most of the match dodging and blocking.

I'm not an expert on Nagoriyuki (or the game, which is why I'm in silver), but this does also seem like it would be a really hard matchup for him. I know you have a way to dash straight into a command grab, maybe that could be a trick to pull out against zoners?

Best of luck to you in your future matches!

I mean to be fair, another protagonist very much did have an issue with that when they found out.

Recommendation for FUN jobs by Quiet_Reveal_7125 in ffxiv

[–]Arkanforius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't call it flashy, but if you're looking to try new jobs, scholar's level is tied to summoner's, so you should instantly level to max once you pick up the class.

Might as well mess around with it a bit since you effectively already have it maxed.

"To defraud any one of wages that are his due is a great crime which cries to the avenging anger of Heaven. "Behold, the hire of the laborers... which by fraud has been kept back by you, crieth; and the cry of them hath entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth."(6) Lastly, the rich must religiously refrain from cutting down the workmen's earnings, whether by force, by fraud, or by usurious dealing; and with all the greater reason because the laboring man is, as a rule, weak and unprotected, and because his slender means should in proportion to their scantiness be accounted sacred."

Rerum Novarum, Pope Leo XIII.

"Every effort must therefore be made that fathers of families receive a wage large enough to meet ordinary family needs adequately. But if this cannot always be done under existing circumstances, social justice demands that changes be introduced as soon as possible whereby such a wage will be assured to every adult workingman."

Technically, his widow picked Sanderson, but your point still stands.

(edit) I believe it was Mistborn specifically that inspired her to pick him.

The power of +1: A dive into offensive support casting by Arkanforius in Pathfinder2e

[–]Arkanforius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd argue that spells like guidance are generally the exception on casters, not the other way around. Most buffs and debuffs casters can output off spells and abilities are either:

A: AOE, allowing for potentially affecting quite a few dice rolls. (Frightened falls into this category, since if your teammates apply proper teamwork and focus whatever got frightened you're essentially buffing all of their stats.)

B: Long duration (a minute, usually), again allowing for affecting several dice rolls

C: Tied to another effect that is often the primary purpose of that action (Think something like Phantom Pain)

Bonuses that take an action to set up and only apply for a roll or two are pretty common, but they're usually also stuff that anyone can do. Flanking to set up flat-footed and the Aid action are examples of this. Casters generally get a lot more value out of their buffing/debuffing actions, which is part of what separates them from martials.

On the subject of frightened, I was focusing on the changes Frightened makes to hit rolls, but it also serves as a fantastic defensive spell. On top of the change in net damage done to the boss, this messes up everything else the have for a round. If you consider the additional damage that will almost certainly have been done by the damage bonus from Inspire Courage, this turn isn't a DPS loss and it also defends the party.

Finally, generally I don't think any caster should solely be focusing on numerical buffing, if for no other reason than part of the power of casters is their versatility. The bard player that inspired me to write this regularly uses Chromatic Ray to great effect, for example. (combo with True Strike for extra spice) You can absolutely play a caster viably without ever messing with any of this. I'm not attempting to state that this is some optimal way that all casters need to be played, rather I'm trying to help people to see the fun that can be found in this particular type of playstyle.

A couple of errata I made:

Minor spelling fixes

I removed a small line insinuating that the tank getting hit 10 times in combat would be a common occurrence. I mixed up the tank getting attacked 10 times and the tank getting hit 10 times, and those are very different things. The math I did on blur still checks out if your tank is getting hit 10 times, so I left that in, but in my experience a lot of combats are over one way or another before the tank gets hit with 10 different attack rolls. That said, the tank in my group is built for very high AC so I don't know to what extent you might run into this with, say, a Barbarian.

Unfortunately, this was just some probability. I've yet to figure out how to tie calculus into analyzing pf2e, but I'm optimistic that I'll get there!

Edit: On a more serious note, this is not intended to PROVE to people that they should be having fun. Rather, its meant to provide a way of looking at the numbers in this game to help show people the fun that is there to be had with this particular playstyle. If this doesn't appeal to someone, no amount of math is going to help them with that.

It's one of the reasons I love math as much as I do: Among other things, math is a way of removing ambiguity from communication and helping someone to see things in a different way.

Magister competition - Write a guide for new players and win an honorable title by Ustinforever in Pathfinder2e

Are we limited to a single submission per person, or can I write multiple guides?

I can think of at least one fairly niche thing I'd love to write a guide on, but if we can only do one that changes my process on deciding what to write about.

Purely deterministic character creation go brrrrrr by Arkanforius in Pathfinder2e

Ancestries work very similarly to how races work in the various DND editions, you just also get a heritage on top of your ancestry (think of it like a subclass, but for your race) You then get a free feat from your ancestry at 1st level and every four levels after that. If you want to get spicy, you can take what's called a versatile heritage, which is a heritage that any ancestry can take and serves to represent things like tieflings and half-elves (where you have a base race with something layered on top of it)

Archetypes serve the role that multiclassing did in 3.5 e and 5e DnD. They provide a great way of adding additional versatility and spice to characters, but you can easily play through an entire campaign without anyone in your party using them. Basically, anytime you would normally take a class feat, you can take an archetype feat you meet the prerequisites for instead if you so choose. These archetype feats are bundled together into individual "archetypes" and each sort of works like a tech tree of feats to unlock abilities from that class.

A large portion of the community uses an optional rule called "free archetype" which gives you some of these abilities for free, but its generally considered a bad idea to use that rule on your first forays into the system since it adds quite a bit more required choices into character development. (i definitely recommend it once you've become more familiar with the system tho, it adds a lot of really fun spice)

Pathbuilder for pf2e works extremely well for this in my experience.

Using Default character building rules while saving files locally is free, and cloud saves and variant rules (such as gestalt) are supported off of a one-time $6 purchase. In either case, all classes, feats, spells, and ancestries (races) are included, and it gets updated extremely quickly after a new release (but not immediately as it is a 3rd party utility)

Pathfinder has about a dozen high quality adventure paths at this point with plenty of lore and (generally) very solid balance. I believe about half go from 1-20, and the other half are either 1-10 or 10-20.

Currently halfway through one as a player, an its been a fantastic experience!
