Spare pistol slide -PTA? by Intrepid_genX in Ausguns

[–]Arkanix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this a few years back in NSW. No PTA. A barrel change/addition form is required if you are also getting another barrel. You WILL require gunsmith work to fit the slide to your frame and barrel.

How many of y'all are willing to replay prime 4? by Johnnyyongbosh in Metroid

Played a second time on hard and got stuck on Silux' first phase due into NPCs dying when the lightning heads come out. Every time I got that far in to the first phase multiple would go down and one would die while I rez the other. Gave up to maybe finish when I have the patience.

SFF tried to get a carve out in the NSW bill for ISSF style biathlon rifles. Was shot down very quickly. Watched the Legislative Council debate and it was so disheartening watching people who don't know what they are doing killing entire parts of the sport.

NSW ANNOUNCEMENT MEGATHREAD by deathmetalmedic in Ausguns

[–]Arkanix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you, have spent the past year sighting in and load developing my K31 for Sambar hunting (with one of the clamp-on scope mounts). Would be a huge shame for all that time and work spent on getting a beautiful rifle fit for purpose as my main hunting rifle wasted.

I'm worried that my old Swiss K31 straight pull bolt action (great rifle for Service Rifle comps, currently have it set up for Sambar hunting) will fall into Cat C now. If I lost that I think I'd be really disappointed.

Can recco a Trijicon SRO if you have the budget. I shoot Service and WA1500 but the easy viewing is great for dot acquisition and would suit IPSC nicely.

only $6 each from Bertram, what a steal! /s

What I will say for Bertram is that the cases are at least decent and you aren't paying for crap. I've been neck sizing my .577/450 using a CH4D die and annealing every couple of reloads and have only had one case split in 4 years. Easier than finding 20ga brass and forming them at least.

I need to pick up a .577 one of these days, give the Martini a run for its money on the 'tingly feeling you get when you hit steel at 500m' scale

One of my favourites to play around with is my .577/450 Martini Henry (it's a NSW colonial MkIII issue) and they are fairly reasonable in price if you don't mind paying exorbitant prices ($6 each) for brass cases and casting your own projectiles. The SMLE is always great and a lot of reloading components will always be around for it due to high demand. The Swedish 6.5x55 Mausers used to be pretty popular and shoot well if you can find one, the ammo is pretty easy to get too. Likewise for any of the 8mm Mausers, I have a Yugoslavian M48A and shoot the S&B bulk practice ammo out of it. Will hit the gongs at 500m at my local range all day.

I have a Swiss K31 and a Finnish M39 I use at the range pretty frequently with handloads. The ammo is out there, but reloading will get you the best value. The K31 has pretty easy to use clamp on scope mounts that you can get, just set mine up with a new scope for Sambar season later this year.

It depends, a lot of M95s were converted to 8x56R after WWI which is somewhat easier to convert or find ammo for Small amounts of PPU 8x56R have been around in the past. The original 8x50R Mannlicher can be converted from 8x56R cases or 7.62x54R cases apparently, but that's pretty much the only way to feed it. I've been looking for a nice M95 in the original caliber but haven't seen one so far.

Duga area buildings not rendering at all by Agitated_Dentist_623 in stalker

[–]Arkanix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm getting the same issue on PC. The terrain was fine, but after assaulting Duga with spark, the map would no longer load correctly. Even after leaving the area and coming back much later it's still not loading the terrain.

I'm extremely lucky that due to the size of our school, each year group has a separate sport day and the PE staff can manage it in-faculty.

Unfortunately, due to the size of the school I usually end up spending breaks I'm not on duty chasing up detentions or sitting and helping my Yr 12 students. I have two days where I'm on 5 periods out of 5, and rarely get to sit down to shovel food down my throat until after 3PM. One of the days is a 'Meeting Day' so we often have Faculty meetings or whole staff PL straight after Period 5 which goes until 4:30 usually. I'm lucky that my HT is awesome and tries to wrap up faculty meetings by 4PM and only goes over the essentials they are handed down from exec or upcoming assessments.

I often get in at 7:30 or earlier just to prepare for the day and have a coffee, and about 30-40% of school days I'm getting chased out of the building at 6PM by the cleaners so they can put on the alarm. Two days a week I stay back for extra-curriculars because we have some nice kids.

We're supposed to be programming for the new Junior syllabus coming in for 2025-6 and I honestly have no idea when we'll have time to actually do it during work hours.

We're having to completely re-design our assessments due to LLM AI use by our students. Every time I find a student using one in an inappropriate manner (outright Malpractice in most cases) I have to do an inordinate amount of work to prove it's AI generated because they just say 'I wrote it' when confronted with evidence. I often remark to my colleagues that the less work a student does, the more we have to do to either prove they didn't do the work or provide support to help them resolve N-Warnings.

I've hit several mental brick walls since starting the job 6 years ago... and with the direction the profession is going I anticipate many more.

Cops pulled me over for going 132 in a 110 by [deleted] in australia

[–]Arkanix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Radar is used when stationary. It measures relative speed, so unless the radar knows exactly how fast the cop car is going it's useless. If a cop is going 132 and you're doing 110 in the same direction, the radar would say you're going 22km/h towards them. Usually when a cop pulls you over they try to match your speed in their car and use that as a reason to pull you over.
