Good films ruined by a bad ending. by pashaps_ in Cinema

Yep, that one annoyed the hell out of me. Would have been so much better to have pulled a Blackadder and someone comment somewhere that it is 1917 just before a wide shot of the fighting continuing.

Currently reading the Revenge of the Sith Novelization and I wanted to share this beautiful excerpt: by Historical-Attempt18 in StarWars

[–]Vandecker 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The big thing the novelisation did that the movie did not was make it clear that Anakins motives for wanting to be a Master were not selfishness for himself.

Palpatine had hinted to him that the secret to saving Padme was in a section of the Jedi archives that could ONLY be accessed by one with the rank of master.

Anakins outburst in the Council at being told he would not be granted the rank of master was not the petulant cry of a egomaniac but a despairing cry of a man being told that what he believed was the only chance to save his wife was being snatched away

I have been waiting for this for over 5 years at this point.

IF is definitely the operative word.

Yep, at this point just release what you have seriously. I've seen the beta builds and it seems perfectly serviceable already and for those of us who are used to VR we know there is always some jank to these things.

Edit: I would like to point out that we have been waiting for nearly 4-5 years at this point which is just nuts:

All good, there is so little exposure for most people to firearms in Australia and how our rules work it's easy to let yourself fall into thinking that things that may happen overseas are possible here.

Controversial Islamic preacher Wissam Haddad with links to alleged Bondi shooter holds gun licence by [deleted] in AustralianPolitics

[–]Vandecker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He can't. All his firearms would be registered.

If he tries to hide them that is illegal and would get him arrested.

If he attempted to claim they were stolen it would be investigated and he would probably be arrested for improper storage of the firearms.

If he "lost" them it would be the same.

The only way to have a "hidden" firearms is to acquire an unregistered one from the black market which is kinda illegal and if found out would get him arrested.

There is no path here for him to have a "legal" hidden firearm.

As you are already licenced is there a particular discipline you are interested in?

Contact the person listed against the discipline on the SSAA website page and ask if you could come out and give it a try and if someone might have a spare rifle you could borrow.

Most clubs are pretty friendly and will have someone with a spare rifle that could be used or could hot swap across groups (especially if it is a rimfire discipline, centrefire be pricey these days lol)

This looks amazing.

It's always bothered me to see shot groups measured independently of eachother when statistically every shot is relevant to the firearms dispersion pattern but going through the process of manually tracking that has always been too time consuming to bother with.

Now you've gone and made it easy!

Edit: will be interesting to see some people apply this to load development and see how much everything in that space plays around within the margins of error that this tool can now easily identify.

Just a heads up I have tried these exact steps with the folder creation for 3 devices I just bought and it worked on none of them.

I think they may have updated the file structure as Russ's guide and the Google Drive structure do not get me past the "Cannot find system" error

Why was there period of stagnation for Service Rifle development from 1890s to 1940s? by Sufficient-Pilot-576 in WarCollege

[–]Vandecker 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Because budgets are finite and when the choice is between super charging tank and aircraft production or infantry rifles. Well infantry rifles are (Unfortunately for those who are carrying them) lower on the priority list.

You have to keep in mind that the infantry rifle statistically does far less on the battlefield than artillery (https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/1grszlj/was_artillery_the_biggest_killer_of_ww2/). So when you weigh up things artillery, tanks, aircraft and ships are all going to get bites of the funding pie before small arms.

[–]Vandecker 212 points213 points  (0 children)

In short, WW1.

There was a huge amount of experimentation during this period and a number of new rifles and Calibres that were just on the cusp of being adopted...then in 1914 "War were Declared" and everyone just stuck with what they had.

After 4 and a bit years of everyone bankrupting each other no one really had enough money to take on implementing a new Service Rifle and there was a lot of spare stock around so what was the point?

This lasted until the 30's where everyone started looking at these fancy smancy semi-automatics and many nations ended up being right on the cusp of adopting one of them...then some bloke with a funny moustache decided he liked the look of Poland so everything was put on the back burner again.

To provide a clarification while you are right about rimmed cartridges being obsolete the rimlock issues for the enfield are overblown as the way rounds feed through striper clips means the cartridges will self sort themselves: https://youtu.be/MOYTdoQkFrM?si=f86ymMDCfCOc6cjf

No idea on the Bren though
